Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood for sure if you're okay with some blood/violence. It's my favourite Anime of all-time.

I recommend to start watching some famous animes, for example:

In the type of shonen (acction):
"Boku no hero" or "My hero academia" (is one of my favorites :3)

    I can't make a recommendation about shojos because I don't see very shojos ;-;

    I also recommend this animes

    - Death Note.

    - Soul Eater.

    -Danganronpa.

    -One punch man.

    -Assassination classroom.

I know more, but I'm lazy...

I hope to be helpful :')

Pd: I'm not saying that a famous anime is better that the others.

If you're still taking suggestions, I got a few for you!

    TIger & Bunny.
    Blood Battle Blockade (Kekkai Sensen)
    Yu Yu Hakusho
    Inuyasha
Madoka Magica (Pretty dark, but still good)
Fruits Basket (You can watch the older one or the new one, or BOTH if you reaaly feel up to it.)

    for Movies though

    Summer Wars
Any/All Ghibli movies (Spirited away, Princess Mononoke, Naussica Valley of the WInd, Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro, etc. )

That's all I got for now. I will return if you want me to.

    Nice list!

Madoka Magica was so amazing. And such a shocker. That twist and turnabout, I almost fell off my chair.

There's that other guy who reminds me of Ghibli and Ghibli's success streak: Makoto Shinkai, he made Your Name and Weathering With You. His movies are also really good.

I agree to start off with ghibli's studio productions is a wise move into Anime if you don't have any background of liking manga.

I highly recommend "Grave of the fireflies" :siptear:
