This past weekend, the K-Pop boy band Seventeen released the sentimental piano ballad "Pinwheel," rounding out the slate of four songs the band has released over the course of the month as part of an EP album project titled Before Al1.

The group's fourth EP release Al1 came out in late May, selling nearly 200,000 copies in its first week alone. Since then, the band has teased a series of music videos released to their YouTube channel, and singles which they are calling "prequels" to the songs on the Al1 EP. "Pinwheel" is the last of these singles, which will be compiled into the companion EP Before Al1.

Additionally, the band released a stand-alone single last month called "Change Up," which prefaces an as-yet-untitled studio LP to be released on Nov. 6.

South Korean girl group Twice is winning hearts around the world with their latest music video — a fun, cartoony romp filled with bright colors and competitive sports tropes.

The new video is in support of the nine member K-pop group's first Japanese language single, "One More Time." As Billboard reports, Japan is the world's second-largest music market, and Twice has already seen great success there. The group’s debut compilation album #Twice, released through Warner Music Japan, included both Korean and Japanese language versions of the group's first five singles, climbed to No. 2 on Japan's Oricon Albums Chart, and saw the highest first-week sales for any K-pop artist in Japan in more than two years. In addition, three members of the group — Momo Hirai, Sana Minatozaki, and Mina Miouyi — hail from Japan.

Twice's formation came about as the result of their participation on a televised survival-style Korean talent competition called "Sixteen," which saw 16 hopeful young singers compete for a chance to join the final nine-member lineup.

Got7, Seventeen Drop Trending Music Videos

English-Korean lyrics and dance share the "beautiful sky" as new vids show K-pop bands' talent

Popularity draws attention but videos by Got7 and Seventeen over the last few days tangibly take the Korean boy band format to higher levels. If you've wondered why anybody cares about K-pop, feel this.

"You Are" is the lead single on Got7's new EP 7 For 7. The band's label JYP Entertainment is run by J.Y. Park who posted on Instagram, "The scary thing about this team is that they're still growing like a rookie!"

Billboard observed that "You Are" blends the 7's softer side with soaring melodies. The naturalness of both the talent and the English-Korean blended lyrics, with English subtitles, evoke a flair that feels truly international. It's also a tradition that's been building for years, growing in popularity and attention because of it. And demonstrating why, the whole way.

"13th Month's Dance (Lilili Yabbay)" allows Dino, Hoshi, Jun, and The8 to unleash some bada** street dancing in Brooklyn, N.Y. The white face make-up is theatrical and androgynous, but the physicality of the dance performance is a refined and fresh restatement that Korea feels the breaks and the beats and knows what to do about it.

We could talk about quantity of YouTube views but those numbers keep going up. What should go up with the bands is affectionate respect for the talent driving musical expressions like these farther into the mainstream than Korean pop has ever been.

The seven-member K-pop collective BTS hosted an impressive pair of opening nights for their first arena/dome shows in Japan this past weekend.

With more than 80,000 fans gathered at the Kyosera Dome Osaka on Oct. 14 and 15, the K-pop superstars laid down massive shows for their so-called "Osaka ARMY," ripping through 22 of the group's favorites and individual members' respective solo standout tracks.

One of the biggest highlights of the two nights was undoubtedly the unbridled full-crowd singalong to the group's international hit "DNA," which nabbed them their first career spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and helped their latest album, Love Yourself: Her, become the first-ever Top 10-charting album by a Korean act on the Billboard 200.

The group also teased some new music to the gathered Japanese fans, hinting that a new "triple-A" CD single was coming on Dec. 6, featuring new a new original song in Japanese as well as newly recorded Japanese language versions of their hits "DNA" and "MIC DROP."
