Thanks to the general public, some songs like BBoom BBoom became a hit despite of its small fandom support. However, there are also some songs who some of us think are not that really good but are extremely doing well both on charts and sales. And there are of course some special cases wherein a song got so much love and support both from a big fandom and the general public (e.g TT, Gee etc.)

With this said, which of these two tells better of a song's genuine success?

    A. General Public (including neutrals and non kpop fans)
    B. Fandom support (with subjectivity due to biases/favorites)

A hit is a song that goes beyond the fandom so GP’s reaction is the thing that tells it’s status.

Before that, you need to ponder first, what define/considered as a 'quality song'? Because to answer your question, neither.

Well... that's just stupid. It's no an opinion. Obviously general public matters more. Like.. wtf?

But if the question was something like, for a group to have a solid career, which matters more, support from general public or dedicated fandom, that would be much more debatable question.

A hit would be something like Beyonce's Single Ladies

TO THIS DAY PEOPLE STILL REMEMBER THAT SONG

TO THIS DAY PEOPLE STILL LISTEN TO IT

    THE SONG WENT BEYOND
    FROM AMERICA

TO THIS DAY THAT'S PROBABLY HOW PEOPLE KNOW HER NAME

for a song to be SOTY it would literately have to be all these things above.

    correct me if I'm wrong:siptear:

    GP opinion matters more

Group fandom opinion is biased af while GP opinion is based only on the mv, the song that's all because they don't always know the group or their members

Well, since we're discussing 'genuine success' of a song, then A.
If you can stir the general public, it's a definite hit. Mostly because the same group/artist could rarely ever reproduce similar result. There's a reason why the phrase 'one hit wonders' exist, because it extends to the song being a "trend", and circulating among non-fans of broader demographics. I don't know any group/artist who were able to recreate the same phenomenon twice.

public. Bigbang is an example of a group that relies mostly on public support not saying VIP as a fandom is small but their name in korea is so powerful
