My two very favorites are Namie Amuro for combining edgy, catchy, and cool dance songs with sincere ballads done with a lovely resonant ring and a wide dynamic range and Kana Nishino for having one of the most purely beautiful and emotional voices I have ever heard and her amazing facility to transition so smoothly up and down in pitch like a bird soaring and then diving lightly back to ground.
Then, Akina Nakamori for having the best and most natural sounding vibrato I have ever heard combined with a beautiful piercing high pitched ring that she mixes with a deep breathy delivery in a lower tone to create great sensitivity and variety. She also combines great plasticity in movement with her music like Namie Amuro though Namie is more devoted to showcasing this in her choreography. .
Also Ayumi Hamasaki and Leo Ieri and
Shiina RIngo for combining a kaleidoscope of styles from jazz, to rock, punk, classical and dance mix music done with a wide range of volume from a loud primal whine to a plaintive soulful tone.
hitomi for combining innocence and genuineness with a cheeky confidence and openness while singing with a beautiful high pitched resonance that projected a lot of emotion and various textures of feeling to her music.
Aimer's voice does wonders for me. The emotion she puts into her voice is just so beautiful. You can just feel it.
Not to mention every one of her songs just get stuck to your head. I could listen to her forever and never get bored.
