I love cute concepts more than life but not everyone over here does so probably not unless they switch up concepts

Of course! They have a lot of fans there. JYP's probably already considering a US tour next year from what I saw ^^

Cringe is fine, just look at what does the fox say or Gangnam style. I just don't think Twice has the right cringe.

Depends on your definition of success.

If they hold a concert here, will fans go? Sure.

But will they ever be US celebrities? Nah, not unless JYP does a 180 on their concept and sound.

If a joke is the top selling and most successful gg of third gen what does that say about the rest of the gg's?

I think it's certainly possible, though I doubt that's JYP's focus and though a girl crush concept might give them an easier time. Then again, who cares? If I were JYP, and I had the most successful girl group in Korea—an act which is also dominating Japan like a Korean GG hasn't in years—America would be the last thing I'd be thinking about. It's just not that important for financial success in the grand scheme of things; the domestic market is where Twice has shone so far and it's where I expect their dominance to continue.

And personally, I don't find them cringy, despite being American myself. People have different tastes, after all :)

You all are honestly.....*sigh* I would say yes depends on what song they're going to use for the American debut. To those of you who say they're too "cute" for Americans, you know they wouldn't use the korean and japan formula in America. JYP would be digging a grave for TWICE and lock them in the dungeon so of course they'll be fine

my point was, you named psy as an example for something cringy being "succesful" in America, so my question is if you can consider yourself succesful even when people is just laughing at you?

    I find it hard tbh

They are too different from what americans are used, plus their style and music could be easily associated with "kids music", so I believe they main target would most likely be pre teens....

I personally don't think so but having Japan on your palms is much better for a kpop group than America because I personally think even if you do manage to break in the US market, it's hard to get out of the niche label or to be stable and stronger there... In case of Twice, they have so much power in japan and korea, that I don't think it matters.

    Maybe you should.

That said, the US isn't in a girl-group moment right now; even English-language girl groups are flopping. So I don't see how Twice could possibly achieve success except among the hard-core Koreaboos.

probably not like bts or even blackpink. the lack of an english-speaking member and their concept doesnt really appeal to american advances. that being said, who gives a shit when they are korea's ngg, sell the most, and are extremely popular in japan. they still be getting money. lots of it.

Fifth Harmony members are about the same age range as Twice and look at the concepts that they use. And that's what's popular in the US right now.

Hip-hop, R&B, rap, soul, and some dance are popular in the states right now. There's some pop like Selena Gomez but even she branches out and isn't bubblegum pop.

Acts like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry who are more pure girl pop are losing popularity, so Twice probably wouldn't do well with their current concepts.
