kpop sales have been on the rise for a few years now and are at an all time high, mostly because of competition among the top groups and the schemes kpop companies are running to drive the sales up. but do you think removing bts from the picture would cause the sales to drop drastically? bc it wont take as many albums for a group to be one of the 'best selling' groups, so the real bulk buyers probably wont feel the same urgency, and lbr, all kpop group sales are being heavily carried by the bulk buying portion of the fandoms. buying 6+ of the same album seems like a norm now.

obviously this isnt to say bts is going anywhere anytime soon or at all for that matter. just a hypothetical for the purpose of discussion.

Sales have been rising steadily for years now and I doubt that's gonna slow down any time soon.

i mean, there's definitely a cap on how high the sales are going to go, especially for non bts groups. there aren't infinite amounts of consumers out there and companies are overextending these fanbases with how many releases these groups do a year. just look at twice's sales. also the physical album market is dying everywhere else except maybe japan. theres just a lot to think about

Personally, from what I know of my immediate friend group, the 'bulk buying' isn't necessarily to beat out BTS's charts or even come near them. It's more about collecting and supporting our groups. I know I've bought multiple versions of the same album, or even multiples of the same version, for the purpose of hunting down the Photocards for my biases. I usually do that more often than trying to trade PCs because I know at least when I'm buying multiples, it's supporting my idols.

But that's just me. I don't think that album buying is going to be slowing down much, because the companies are going so hard on the collectability aspect of things.

I don't think sales would drop drastically but i think the growth that alot of groups are experiencing would slow down a bit.

I think they would keep growing. Some armies would support other groups and groups would have an actual chance of being number one instead of fighting for second.

    No.
Competition is not going away even if BTS has a hiatus. Yes, perhaps the numbers they make influence others who want to compete to go a bit harder, but it was present even before and it will be present after BTS. It's not going anywhere. Now, will some decide with BTS temporarily away they can breathe a little and not go as hard? Probably - if I went by some of what I've seen on this forum. But even more likely, someone will try to meet or surpass them in any absence - cause I've seen that too!

The sales cap will go down, but I see top groups emerging in their own ways to continue the trend.

    TL;DR no.

Sales have gone upwards for several years now w/ Westerners knowing about, and social media marketing K-Pop acts. There have been other ways to increase the sales, such as some charts (like Billboard) counting a certain amount of streams and downloads as 1 album sale.

BTS are the best selling K-Pop artist, but there will be another to take their place once they go on hiatus the same way H.O.T., g.o.d, DBSK, Super Junior, and Big Bang were all at one point the best selling K-Pop groups at one point.

Not BigBang, EXO. BB's strength wasn't physical sales.

When BTS is gone, all Kpop labels will disband and the genre as a whole will cease to exist

It will barely have any affect rather if BTS disbanded today, Boy Groups in general will see a big increase in Physical Sales as core Boy Group Stans barely follow GGs, except maybe BlackPINK.
