The vocal line should absolutely know how to sing As for the dancers/rappers or whatever I don't have great expectations, as long as they deliver their lines well enough, I'm fine with them being weak vocalists.
The fact that this is controversial.. But like what is the point of discussing it? "Idols should be able to sing" I'm agreeing with you but at the same time, then why are they called "idols" and not singers? Why not performers? Why not a dancing boy/girl group? What is exactly is the job of an idol? Do you get my point? The kpop idol industry is run by kpop companies. Their "high standard" is finding random people on the street who are good looking and asking them to "audition" for their company when at that point they've already been recruited for the company's training program. If kpop companies really wanted to find young people with talent they'd recruit from some of the top performing arts schools in korea or something. Their standards are visuals first for the most part. That's why most kpop fans are in it for the visuals first. And when I say visuals it doesn't necessarily mean the best looking person but a person with interesting visuals, a person that'll draw others in. So singing is what they then train to do. That's why you'll always hear "I need to work on my skills". For some it'll work and for others.. well they'll be average singers and work on dance or rap. So should idols be able to sing? Sure. I'd love for that to be the case. But it'll be nice if we can convince kpop companies of that idea too.
Crazy idea: I still don't think they're phenomenal singers. Idk, how hard is it to get through your head that not everyone is going like the same singers that you do. This conversation is getting redundant.
It's not about liking them ,it's that they've been praised by the music industry so there's clearly something to them unlike what you think.
