bts didn't exactly pave the way, but they did make kpop more popular in the US. Twice said it themselves.

People ignore the fact that the minor/tiny impact other groups like BB, 2NE1, etc have long long been forgotten-the groundwork was long gone and there was no legacy to speak of for them in the US.

Same for Psy-he had huge success for a very short time and it was HIS success not Kpop's and none of the groups managed to make anything of it as Gangnam Style was more meme than music for westerners.

BTS cut out their own path in the US and any groundwork put in before them was dead and that's the truth of it.

I mean as far as America goes unless it's Gangnam Style any of these "accomplishments" in America that kpop fans like to talk about are only accomplishments when comparing against other kpop artists.

If you compare them against actual successful American artists they would get crushed

I don't know if it's spelling, coherency or the fact that it's 5am for me. But nothing you said makes any sense.

    This.
Technically, any group that had a large fanbase and interest from i-fans could have been what BTS is today in America, which is what OP seems to be trying to say?

I don't know. BTS brought way more recognition for K-Pop than even Psy did for most people I know. This is only because their view on Psy wasn't one of 'Wow that's K-Pop' more of seeing it as a joke on the internet. BTS brought recognition to K-Pop as a genre and only recently with their hit DNA did I begin to hear them on the UK radio. K-Pop has never been played or introduced to national TV or Radio here until BTS. Alike to the BBMA they won, and their more infamous collabs and additionally I've heard it more on Spotify being advertised ect since BTS' more famous eras. So I'll politely disagree.

They did contribute but to pave the way is a little too far. Wonder Girls and SNSD also promoted in the US before. So if you talk about paving the way, they will most likely be the top contributor.

Bts did make kpop more appealing for US fans but without the music evolution of Kpop, it would never have been possible.
