The Korean Business Research Institute has revealed this month’s brand reputation rankings for girl groups!

The rankings were determined through an analysis of the consumer participation, media coverage, interaction, and community indexes of various girl groups, using big data collected from July 9 to August 10.

TWICE topped this month’s list with a brand reputation index of 7,214,998, marking a modest 1.27 percent increase in their score since last month. High-ranking phrases in the group’s keyword analysis included “love,” “prepare,” and “launch,” while their highest-ranking related terms included “Jihyo,” “Momo,” and “dating.” TWICE’s positivity-negativity analysis also revealed a score of 72.83 percent positive reactions.

BLACKPINK came in at a close second with a brand reputation index of 7,122,359, while ITZY shot up to third place in the rankings after enjoying a staggering 220.36 percent increase in their score since July for a total index of 7,072,567.

Very small gap between the top 3 but these are very depressing scores, means people are barely talking about GGs. As Twice is the most popular one, under such circumstances they'll top the list by default when talk is low since they have a higher floor.

I'm no brand reputation truther but for GGs the scores at least bear some meaning since they don't have the fanbases to spam on comment sections and artificially boost scores like BGs do, current numbers just show a disinterest all across the board, which is sad, definitely a year to forget by them in Korea, worst since 2015.

Tbh I think it has to do with the demographics of fans: either the types of people that the primary target audience or the majority of KPOP fans consist of mostly pre-teen/teenage girls and young women. Also, considering individual idols who are popular in South Korea and the heteronormative society there, I think BG's are more preferred over GG's not necessarily because of the music, but rather because these BG's market themselves as the "boyfriend material" to these fans and many BG idols come close to fans' ideal type or what they consider as attractive, so more towards the visuals and "boyfriend appeal" that GG's can't provide considering the heteronormative society there rather than the music (like they go for the visuals before the music), and how there are way more female KPOP fans than male KPOP fans. I can be wrong on this though.

I thought the lines in the graph were the 4 units of measurement they use..participation, media, community and communication

That's true among fandoms, BGs hold and edge over GGs in that department for the reasons you stated hence why they have higher scores. What concerns me is how low GG scores have been as of lately, over the past year and a half you pretty much needed to score over 10M points to top the index, some big groups that had comebacks usually went over 15M. Now the #1 group is in the low 7s, which means the main audience for GGs, the general public, is not talking about them at all.

I actually don't think 7M is low, the only group that significantly achieves higher than this is BTS and they are an anomaly, even other BGs only mange these numbers

Look at past months and you'll see how low 7M is comparatively...groups who rank 1 can easily have anywhere from 15 to 20M
