One thing I really like about Kpop is the variety shows, live chats, trips and activities that are documented for the idols. It really helps you get to know the individuals, and is a significantly superior way of going about things compared to Western music.

Most stars in pop music over here you get to know them a bit through interviews but that’s it for the most part, but Kpop stars are really open and good natured on these shows, don’t mind looking silly or just generally being on camera loads. It means you have a ton of stuff to watch about your favourites.

I disagree, a lot of kpop stars especially from bigger companies have specific roles and are essentially acting its not their real personality.

So true, it helps their image as well as people see the person as opposed to what the media makes up.

Unless the person is an a**hole of course then it’s better to remain mysterious :angryr:

idk i mean yes idols seem a lot more humble and respectful but lets be honest some of them fake that shit up or else knetz is going to tear them up to shreds

but yes the abundance of content is life

They must be amazing actors then, the more exposure you have the harder it is to keep your real personality in. You can really tell when some people are just a sweet bunch, Twice for example. Big Bang on Weekly Idol came across really well, in fact of all the shows I’ve watched it’s hard to tell if they faking it. Must be one hell of a superficial machine if all these people are just acting.

EDIT: That said I’m sure training comes into it as well, so fair enough there must be truth in what you have said

Not really......... that's what training periods are for and the Korean music industry is known for rigorously controlling the image of idols. Where as in western pop artist have a lot more individual freedom to be their self's.

Yeah I’m not really looking at it from the point of how the Kpop system works I suppose.

But that's also one of the thing that gets them obsessed and crazy fans...
And no privacy. They are extremely exposed.

I like it too... but I often feel like i'm overstepping. They're human. I know it's part of their job but stil...

I think there should be a way to make it even. Not too secretive, but not too public.

Yeah I know what you mean they have cameras in their faces all the time, I wonder if obsessional fans / stalking is higher in Korea because of it

    Its good and bad.

As a fan you want to see and know more about your bias ofc, and kpop world gives you a lot of that pleasure. But the dark side of it is that idols exposes themselves too much and the worst is it is part of their job. Sometime I almost feel like Im invading their private life.
Also, Most of kpop groups sell a picture/a concept before selling the music itself, idols learnt how to act in front of cameras to appear likeable, funny etc. to appeal more fans. Its the industry you cant blame them. But you need to know for sure that every idol is more or less faking.

    Sad facts

Yeah it's a reason why we call them idols and not "artists", they are literally trained to be like, 99% of the time you like an idol for them. While western singers sell their music and leave

Haha lol it’s not like Hollywood don’t do this. Many adults, at least in the West, are adimitted that at least 60% of what they say are lies
