ICY is a bop. No one can convince me otherwise. But I saw some comments saying that if Itzy were not from JYP, ICY would have "flopped". Heck, they were saying that if Itzy were from another agency outside the big 3 (SM, JYP and YG), they would not have been this successful. Or if another Girl Group outside the big 3 were to release ICY, it would have "flopped". Would do you guys think?

    Yes

It would have been the same if cheer up, red flavor, gee, genie etc....

Would have been release by a nugu gg

Big 3 gg have the most loyal fandom, also coming from a big 3 agency also directly give them much more exposure to medias and gp
If this song would have been release by a gg like busters for example i can tell you that nobody would have heard about it

Yes. "ICY" would have not been a hit. But it has nothing to do with the song itself. It's just the Big 3 privilege. And I also add BH to the bunch as well. I'd say we already have the Big 4.

well every song of any big three group got their (some deserved, some not) popularity because of their company (except first and some second gen groups) so

    The group itself would flop.

Honestly I don't believe it's big 3 privilege that allows their songs to do well, I believe it's more specifically JYPGG privilege. There are plenty of big 3 groups that haven't hit big the way they should. Just look at Jyp's boy groups for example. Even though GOT7, Day6, and SKZ have great discographies, they don't have a large Korean fandom. Its not their faults, it's just that Korea doesn't really trust Jyp boy groups so they are less likely to get invested in them. However, Korea absolutely loves Jyp girl groups so that alone gave ITZY an advantage before they even debuted.

Even disregarding what I said about JYPGG privilege, generally girl groups are more likely to do well with the Korean general public. While boy groups usually have larger fandoms, girl groups have a better chance at getting the general public interested in them. ITZY being from the big 3 (and more specifically a JYPGG) just helps them out with that even more.

Big 3 privilege isn't what allows their songs to be successful (since their are some big 3 groups who aren't that successful), it's JYPGG privilege.

It all boils down to promotion. Even a great song will flop if no one hears about it. ITZY are everywhere.
