After re-listening through most of the pre-debut solo
work I've realized why I am not FULLY into them even if I like their music.
    I've discovered it's the vocals.

No I'm not saying the girls are horrible at singing.
I've been listening to a lot of the songs back to back as you do in a stream and I've noticed something.
A lot of their solo songs have the same very soft vocals to the point that the vocals all kind of sound the same.
After noticing this I think I realized that that is my main issue.

I think the girls are not pushing it as much as they could.
I see potential with LOONA in all honesty and maybe that is why I'm frustrated?
I think they have the ability to push it a bit further vocally with each of their songs, not necessarily throwing in all these high notes that they may not be able to hit.
But I mean adding more tone and power to the lines they sing unless it's like a song where that wouldn't work-like with Eclipse I don't think more power in majority of the song would make it better but there are a few lines here and there that feel too soft and if Kim Lip had just pushed a bit more
I think it would've improved the song a bit more and made it more memorable.

That goes for a lot of the solo songs.
I feel like everyone has a tone that goes with their voice and I feel like a lot of the members don't get to show that tone or style in their songs even if they are solo pieces.
I get this may be a stylistic choice on the companies part to make each song a bit more cohesive to fit LOONA's image.

But I think it also kind of works against them.
I think in some of the B-sides you can see that they were holding back when it comes to the tone of their voices.
Like in Puzzle I think it shows Choerry and Jinsoul's tones more distinctively, but that tone isn't really shown in their solo songs. And I think it's kind of silly since I think solo songs should play to the strengths of the singer. But I think the solos kind of failed to do that even if they aren't bad songs and I enjoy them I've always felt they were missing something and it took me this time around to realize what it was.

    What do you think?

Also before you go off on me or something-I talk about LOONA a lot because I genuinely want to get into them so don't bitch at me for these threads thanks.

Ok so I'm liking how I can see hints at the sub-units in the solo music videos.

I don't think I noticed those the first couple of times I watched these music videos-I didn't even realize a lot of the members made cameos in the other members music videos. So it's kind of cool picking up on these little subtle things this time around. I'm thinking of ranking their solos in here once I'm officially done listening to them all.

Also saying my thoughts on the members individually when I get around to the guide videos (sorry I took a short break after I was left alone in my stream).

tis interesting. If you watch the Hi High m/v a couple times you start to see references to the subunits and solo videos as well :yesr:

These are valid critiques. I'm an Orbit but wouldn't call you a hater. You presented your opinions respectfully and that's much appreciated since it's rare on AKP lolol.

Loona's vocals being overall more subdued caught me off guard at first. But I've grown to really like and appreciate all their releases and solos. I think for the most part they did really well matching vocalists to a song they could do well. HeeJin's solo reminded me of an indie pop song/marina and the diamonds and her vocal tone fit it perfectly. HaSeul has a beautiful ballad voice that fits Let Me In. Chuu was able to showcase her strong vocals in Heart Attack and Hi High. Go Won had a playful song with a lot of raps/sing-speak that really fit her voice and persona. Etc. etc. That's how I see it but I understand your points :)

Out of the ballad solos I like hers the most for that.

Solos in order of ones I liked the most to liked the least:
    1. Egoist by Olivia Hye
    2. Singing in the Rain by Jinsoul
    3. ViViD by Heejin
    4. Eclipse by Kim Lip
    5. New by Yves
    6. Let Me In by Haseul
    7. Love Cherry Motion by Choerry
    8. Heart Attack by Chuu
    9. Everyday I Love you by Vivi
    10. Kiss Later by Yeojin
    11. Around You by Hyunjin
    12. One & Only by Gowon
I think this is mostly accurate.

So my ranking for sub-units is this:
    1. LOONA OEC
    2. LOONA yyxy
    3. LOONA 1/3
I don't think my rank is that surprising-I tend to lean more towards OEC's style in my day to day life but Love4eva is a bop.

This is my overall ranking of their debut album:
    1. FavOrite
    2. Hi High (I know shocking)
    3. Stylish
    4. -
    5. Perfect Love/ Yeolgi
My thoughts on Hi High have changed-I still think the chorus isn't the most creative but I do overall think it's catchier like the fifth time around. It sounds a lot stronger this time around. While I do find FavOrite to be messy and overall the place I do like the harmonies and think the chorus is probably one of the more catchy choruses on the album overall.

I think a lot of their music has to grow on me which isn't necessarily a great thing but it also isn't bad?

I may be adding these songs to my playlist just because I think I like them enough to listen to them more than just once.

So I watched this to get to know the members a bit more:

If you do not know before anything I had Heejin, Chuu, and Jinsoul as my biases and that was just from listening to their songs or knowing their abilities. But after watching this I no longer find Heejin to be incredibly interesting so she fell off. I think Chuu is very dorky and so is Jinsoul and I love it-so I think I was smart in choosing them.

I just need to see if I can get my Heejin badge removed somehow. I think the clip also made me a bit more interested in Gowon, Haseul, and Kim Lip, oh and Vivi too!

Ooh, great! You gave them a chance, which is always appreciated!
    Most LOONA songs are growers.
It is interesting to observe subtle musical changes that correlate with the LOONAverse & easter eggs in the MVs.
    So, you like them overall?
Your thoughts did suggest that you found them satisfactory.
Anyways, come to the convo. That "referral" conversation isn't over yet.

Also, the girls are definitely undertrained.
    The "soft vocals" issue.
I agree. None of them have gargantuan voices.
Haseul's is soft naturally & very heady too, because of her being an opera vocalist. She does have a developed head voice & good transitions from chest to head, which might be showcased later.
Even the girls who belt, Chuu & JinSoul, have lighter & softer voices.
They try to pull up enough chest to make it sound powerful enough, but their voices are naturally too delicate.

Criticising a group doesn't makes you a hater, especially if the criticism is constructive :/
I...kinda agree with you? I really think Loona could do better in term of vocals, but... I mean, it suits the song, so im not mad about it. But I don't think the girl's voices looks the same, not at all :/

Oh my point wasn't that the voices are the same but that in a lot of the solos they pull out the same softer tone while in some of the b-sides their actual tones come out. So naturally a lot of the vocals in the solos start to sounds the same but in the bsides a lot more of their individual sounds and tones come out.

Who has the most beautiful vocal color in your opinion? While Chuu is the most technical singer and probably has the widest range, I really love Yves’ voice color the most. As of now, from what I’ve heard, it seems to be the darkest/deepest and I’m a sucker for deeper female voices. I think about 90% of the group are sopranos while Yves sounds more like a mezzo-soprano to me.

Yves is a soprano I believe. Yeojin is quite possibly a future mezzo.
I actually prefer chipmunk voices like Go won's & Olivia's.
