A woman in her 20's who attempted suicide with a man that she met online was found guilty by a jury.
The Soowon court sentenced her to 6 months in prison and 2 years of probation.
The court explained, "The defendant was indeed suffering from a bipolar disorder, but the fact that she was able to contact the victim, choose a location of suicide, and prepare materials to carry out the act proves that she had the ability to know right from wrong...Because of the defendant's crime, the victim lost his life and serious damages were made."
The court also added, "However, the defendant was also seriously injured and was severely traumatized. The victim's family also petitioned to forgive the defendant, and so we are taking those factors into consideration."
The woman met the victim on a suicide-related website and decided to commit suicide with him. Two days after they met, they took sleeping pills in an empty house and also burned charcoal in order to take their own lives.
However, the woman woke up moments later, escaped the house, and survived. The victim did not make it.
