Around 50 people gathered around Gangnam Station this past May 24 and proceeded with a demonstration for the eradication of hate and prejudice against women in Korean society.

According to Kukmin Ilbo, this peaceful protest was planned by female rights activists who revealed the goal they hoped to achieve through the protest.

The women stated, "Our goal is to break the notion that women are also responsible when they become the victims of violence while walking around at nighttime in scanty clothing, and to deliver the message that we have to stick together. We need to change the way misogynistic crimes are treated from 'preventing victimization' to 'demanding our rights.' We plan to face these kinds of crimes with boldness rather than fear."

Around 10 men were also a part of this march, and 21-year-old university student Kim Tae In reportedly told Yonhap, "Women are speaking up with their own voices, and men are discomforted because they are afraid that they will lose their power, denying the present situation regarding hate against women. Men also have to seek ways of reform [alongside the women]."

I'm with them :)

Good for them, I hope they can spread the word. A good start would be treating rape like a serious crime in Korea and not a minor infraction that gets you only a couple of years in a cage. But carrying a concealed firearm is the best protection against misogynists. Wish more women around the world had that right and that those who live in places where they do have the right to self-defense exercised it in greater numbers. Nothing stops an assailant, rapist, or abuser better than a slug of lead slapping them at 1000+ feet per second.

TRUTH "and men are discomforted because they are afraid that they will lose their power, denying the present situation regarding hate against women. "

I'm a debater and a philosophy and reason student. Many of my arguments stem from issues like these. What strikes me is how others depict what feminism actually is. It is equality for men AND women; not superiority of women over men. Yes there are crazy bitches out there calling themselves feminists but are only putting a bad name on the true movement and what we stand for. Please educate yourselves before making rational claims.

intricate snsd9taeny Thursday, May 26, 2016

careful now.. "true movement" that's a no true Scotsman fallacy right there :P also, if you don't educate yourself you aren't supposed to be able to make rational claims in the first place.

snsd9taeny intricate Thursday, May 26, 2016

But this isn't a rational claim, this a well thought out fact that has been discussed many times over.

intricate snsd9taeny Thursday, May 26, 2016

What I said was that those who didn't educate themselves on the matter can't be the ones making the rational claims. Because those who do are educated. Obviously you aren't one of them because you did educate yourself, I was simply pointing out the weakness of your last sentence (as well as the preceding sentence).

Firstly and this is to all women including myself that you have to understand when you do wear more revealing clothes you're going to get comments by men. However that doesn't give them the right to touch you or lay their hands on you...just saying if you choose to wear something revealing expect those comments about what you are wearing, even sexual comments. It's literally something that's probably never going to change unfortunately.

Freaking finally!

This is a peaceful protest, not the crazy violent ones we get to see on TV these days.
