South Korea not only flattened the curve but is currently winning against COVID-19!

STAR CONTRIBUTOR

A month and a half after the biggest coronavirus outbreak in Daegu - South Korea not only flattened the curve but is really currently winning against COVID-19. Koreans did it even without ordering a mandatory lockdown! For the whole time public transport was functioning, all big shopping malls also were opened.

South Korea's Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-Wha said the number of COVID-19 cases had "stabilized" in her country. She said her government had "acted quickly and pre-emptively", explaining that robust testing and contact tracing had been key to stemming the pandemic and bringing it under control. She added that full transparency was also key.

The South Korea foreign minister said her government’s philosophy had always been to "respect the people's right to freedom of movement", but added that travel restrictions had been put in place in order to avoid a second wave of the virus.

Kang said the idea of a mandatory lockdown would not be acceptable to South Koreans and that the country did not impose one even when there was an early outbreak of the virus in February. "The idea of a mandatory blockade would be contrary to our principle of openness," she explained.

The South Korean city of Daegu, which endured the first large coronavirus outbreak outside of China, on the 10th April reported zero new cases for the first time since late February, as new infections across the country dropped to record lows.

With at least 6,807 confirmed cases, Daegu accounts for more than half of all South Korea’s 10,450 infections.

South Korea on 10th April reported 27 new cases as of the night before, a new low since daily cases peaked at more than 900 in late February, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That latest news gives us a light of hope that in the 2nd part of May or early June we might see a small group of 200-300 fans back in music tv shows because a much bigger number of people is gathering all the time in metro stations, shopping malls, offices, markets or near Han river.

According to studies, the big second wave of COVID-19 shouldn't appear if people won't gather together in closed big arenas under a roof like mega-churches where 3-4k people can attend masses or concert arenas with big capacity.

They’ve done a great job. However, 116 South-Korean cured patients have been retested and the results came out positive. So there are 116 patients (again) infected with the virus. Scientist don’t know if they got infected again, if they still had remains and were never fully cured, or if they’re able to infect others. This news came out yesterday.
