5 Girl Groups Most Likely to Break Through in the U.S. Market

AKP STAFF
misc.
1. BLACKPINK
BLACKPINK has a huge advantage when it comes to English-speaking ability, as well as an appeal that works for Western markets. Every aspect of their marketing is easily accepted in a number of countries and their ultra trendy and stylish visuals in combination with deadly vocal performance ability make them a huge contender as one of the first girl groups to gain traction in the United States.
2. MAMAMOO
MAMAMOO is another 4-piece girl group with the potential to break through in the U.S. They have an out-of-the-box character that benefits them and sets them apart from other girl groups. With homemade dance moves and incredible performance skill, this group has the potential to become what groups like Little Mix and Fifth Harmony have become.
3. Red Velvet
With Red Velvet's latest comeback, we've seen a complete 180 from their debut date. The group is now edgier, trendier, and more badass than ever. This doesn't necessarily bode well in Asian markets, but Red Velvet has struck a balance between edgy modern Pop and classic K-Pop. Their ability to take any concept and sell it could be the reason they break into the U.S. market successfully.
4. APINK
APINK isn't necessarily a top contender for breaking into the United States, however, they were one of the only recent girl groups to book a number of shows in the U.S. This indicates there are untapped markets and fanbases in the U.S. that love the group and would support a push in the direction of Western markets. APINK is a bigger group than the previously listed three, but not so much that there would be trouble remembering members for new fans.
5. LOONA
Though LOONA hasn't officially debuted as their full 12-piece, their group has a significant amount of attention from multiple notable celebrities in the U.S. For instance, RuPaul's Drag Race star, Kim Chi, frequently is seen tweeting "Stan LOONA" on Twitter! Notable celebrities have continued this trend and have garnered the group a significant amount of attention. If LOONA's official debut is marketed correctly, they have the opportunity to make serious waves overseas.
