Umm... I hope you don't mean talent-wise, because talent-wise she is still far and above most current generation idols. As far as music selection goes, I think her length of time in the industry and age are big factors in that (after performing for so many years, maybe she wanted to mellow out, or experiment, or whatever), so her selection would totally be different if she debuted today. Also, if she debuted today as her current age, then of course that would affect her, because younger artists are generally more favored/popular (not being ageist). But I think if she debuted today as the same age current idols, I think she would be just as successful, because of her talent.
So... that said, I think BoA was just being modest here and just trying to compliment her younger colleagues.
She probably feels that way because of how much kpop has changed since back when she debuted. Not trying to sound mean but while she stood out and was unique back then, she's not that outstanding compared to the mass numbers of idols who debut nowadays. Also, her music albeit being really good, doesn't garner as much popularity as it used to. She must feel a little dismayed about that. I hope she's not too hard on herself.
