I remember why I don't log in. This place is full of idiots who don't read or comprehend, and trolls that are full with hateful rhetoric. Cultural appropriation isn't ridiculous. This case is, but the actual issue isn't....why I am I arguing on akp, it is completely pointless. Don't reply to me.
Well, this is stupid.... so if a black person straightens their hair that means they are being racist and it's culture appropriation too? It's gotta go both ways if people want to complain. People are free to do whatever the hell they want to their hair. People need to act like adults and stop complaining!
I haven't logged in, in a long time but I had to, to respond to this ignorant ass comment. Cultural appropriation isn't just about the hair style. The fact that black people can get expelled for it, or the natural hairstyles are called "unprofessional" leading to many acts of oppression, is no way equal to straightening hair. Straightening or stretching hair is the same as white people curling their hair. Are you going to call white people trying to be black for curling their hair? No. Or white people trying to be black for getting a tan? Equating that to cornrows and afros shows your lack of understand and your refusal to understand what the fuck is up. Now. Do I think this dude is appropriating? No, No I don't. And I do think some people take it too far. Now if he was doing a Miley Cyrus and was trying to rename or "rebrand" the style I would have beef with it. Understand, that doesn't diminish the issue because a few people (I bet you it's mostly white people bitching) Go too far with this issue. This is the same thing femnazi's do to feminism. Kindly separate and learn to see the difference.
Cultural appropriation as screamed about by so many is RIDICULOUS and nonsense. As you say, unless someone is MOCKING the way you look (which OMG these KPop kids are NOT doing at ALL - they are EMULATING it and loving it!!!) then it's not cultural appropriation (or more properly, cultural MISappropriation!
