Wonder Girls Doom Korean Education

No one will forget the humiliation that leader Sun Ye of Wonder Girls brought upon her band mates in February. While other Korean pop stars celebrated their success in the College entrance exams, the 19 year old kept her failure a secret for as long as she could.
Despite the negative comments netizens made when news of Sun Ye's failure broke out, the JYP Entertainment idol group managed to catch the eyes of teachers around the nation. Even with one failure, one English speaking handicap (YooBin), two high school students, and only one successful student, Wonder Girls was asked to meet with children for a day at Chung Gye Chun, Seoul. The teachers of the Free Red Pens for Children campaign chose the leaders of the Tell Me craze to become ambassadors and lead the children to a brighter future. The girls themselves became teachers and taught students as well as bribed them with gifts to continue studying hard.
Boy, do those teachers need to get educated. Here's a tip, future educators of the world, don't let failures teach your children no matter how famous they are!

I don’t see what the big deal is...everyone knows how hard the Korean education system is...esp with the Wonder Girls popularity I doubt they had time to sleep much less study. It’s a wonder that they took the test in the first place. And PLENTY of regular Korean teens don’t pass ~ so why give her so much pressure?

@ sLaVe : Sun Ye didn’t get accepted in that college doesn’t necessary mean a failure OK . So just leave her alone .
And how dare you say Yoo Bin is an English speaking handicap ? Please record your own voice and let me hear how well you can speak English .
I’m sure Wonder Girls are able to teach those children since Ye Eun is the smartest one outta 5 , don’t you know that she’s top 10 in her school . Isn’t that good enough to be called “Well-Educated” ?
Why do you have to pick on Wonder Girls all the time ? Don’t you have anything better to do other than getting on people nerves ? You’re totally ridiculous .

So what if Yoobin can’t speak English well? There are millions of people on this earth who can’t even say a word in English, and people just have to pick on popular stars. The education in Asian isn’t just 1+1=2 like in America; live there and try taking their exams if you think you’re so smart.

I have no problem with Wonder Girls “educating” other kids.
What’s a kid going to learn? How to do the “Tell Me” dance?
If they’re smart, so be it. That would surprise me.
However, they are probably pressured like hell.
Also...KuteDragonBabe, I think this person can speak English pretty well if they can post articles in ENGLISH.

SunYe didn’t get in anywhere because she only applied for one school, which in my opinion, was a bad idea. I bet if she tried out for more than one and had a backup, she wouldn’t have been called a failure. I don’t think we should hold that against her since afterall, out of the Wonder Girls, she’s the hardest worker in terms of the entertainment business. She’s the leader, and she needs to play as the mother of the group and get things organized for the group first. She’s also the most talented in my opinion. I can’t say that it’s a negative image she show by failing as a student, but she’s successful as a leader and entertainer. I think SunYe’s actually smart. It’s just that she didn’t get to study much because she has the most pressure out of the girls because she’s the “mother” of the group. Ye Eun on the other hand was in the top 10 in her school, so she’s naturally smart. Not everybody needs to be booksmart to be called successful. I’m sure SunYe works harder than you and makes much more moolah than you.
As for Yoobin’s English skills, that’s just stupid to insult her like that. Let’s hear the other celebrities that lived abroad speak English, too. She’s definitely average in her English skills compared to other Koreans, so insulting her English is like insulting a whole lotta Koreans’ English skills.

True given the amount of work the Wonder Girls had, they might not have enough time to study. However, do these girls want to focus more on their careers or studies?
If they can do both (which Ye Eun does), then it’s great. If not, they have no choice but to choose one.
Having said that, I agree with the person who posted this article. I would not want Wonder Girls to educate children, not because one of them failed entrance exam or any other reason, but because they are not trained as teachers. You can be a PhD and still suck at teaching.
One more thing to add, though education in Asian countries is perceived as more difficult than that in Western countries, it does not mean it would take a genius in order to excel in Asian countries.

@ sLaVe : OMG! I can’t believe that you’re a girl. What a surprised! Anyway , I just listened to your audio thingy. I’ve to admit that you speak English pretty well without any accent.
First of all, did I ever mention your English skill on my comment above? The answer is “NO”. I said if you think you can speak English better than Yoo Bin, than please record your own voice and let me hear it. That’s it!
Do I even care that whether you’re working for a Korean-American blog or not? Again, the answer is “No” because that has nothing to do with me. Why do I need to waste my time finding information about you?
You said that SNSD have better vocal than Wonder Girls? This is the funniest thing I’ve never heard in my entire a life. Let me tell you this, I’m a fan of SNSD just like you, and I definitely don’t think their vocal are better than Wonder Girls at all.
If they do have strong vocal, why do they need to lip-sync most of them time during their performance? Each member barely sing 1-2 lines, if they can’t handle that by themselves. Well, I guess I have to “Point-and-laugh”

Well I don’t know what you entirely meant by requesting a recording of my voice… but, it pretty much seemed like you were doubting my ability to speak English because I was judging YooBin’s and- well you get where this is going?
And the reason why I mentioned that I work for a Korean-American blog is well… to show you that of COURSE I would know how to speak English.
I will admit, Sun Ye, sometimes YeEun and SunMi’s voices may sound BETTER, but they definitely do not have the same control. Sun Ye maybe, but not Ye Eun.
I’ve seen Wonder Girls lip… and sometimes I think they should stick to it because they’re always cracking their voice (well at least YeEun and SoHee are).

KuteDragonBabe, i’m sorry but you just seem like a blind fan. I like WG’s music, but I also recognize the fact that they’re not perfect and that they will always need to improve.
Sunye, Sunnmi, and Ye Eun are great singers, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t need to learn how to control their vocals. They straddle between screaming and singing. Sohee simply and evidently needs a lot of training in this field.
Bottom line- WG isn’t as great as you think they are. I read so many posts by fans who only like the appetizers they put out - the cuteness and all - which leads me to believe that this “cuteness” WG puts out for their fans overshadows what talents they do have.

Did I ever say that Wonder Girls is perfect or great in singing ? The answer is “Never” , because someone in here said that SNSD’s vocal is whole lot better than Wonder Girls . I just said that I’ve to disagree with that .
Sun Ye is the only one in Wonder Girls who has the best & strong vocal . Sun Mi is pretty OK , Ye Eun is also has good vocal , she can reach high notes but she also went off-key sometime during Tell Me performance .
So Hee is not really the worst singer . Her voice is just too soft , and people can barely hear what she’s singing . So they said that she can’t sing , that’s not true .
I watched every single performance of Wonder Girls OK . I’ve to admit they’re not the best live-singing girl group out there , but at least they never lip-sync unlike ...
All 5 of them need to practices more on their singing in other to improves their vocals . So in the future , they all might have their own solo songs to perform on stage , just like Sun Ye had one last year .
I don’t care who likes Wonder Girls because they thinks Wonder Girls are just a bunch of cutie . I’m not like them seriously , if you think that person is me . I’ve to say sorry , you’ve found a wrong person .
I first noticed Wonder Girls after watching their Special Stage with Big Bang . Since I’m a huge fan of Big Bang , and that makes me easily fall in love with Wonder Girls as well .
The reason is pretty simple , I think WonderBang has lots of chemistry together . I love Wonder Girls because of their personality [Sun Mi is really dorky] , not their cuteness OK . I don’t think any one of them are cute back in 2006 when they first debuted .
But we all know that they’re getting prettier now right ? And of course , they’re also really talented . Sun Ye is a good leader . Ye Eun is a Top 10 student in her school . So Hee is a promising actress , her acting skills in her first movie I Like It Hot was pretty good , etc.

^I have to agree. But with everything we mentioned about their vocal skills… this is the reason why I think SNSD sings better.
And I still honestly thing in terms of voice, I like Sun Ye and Sun Mi’s sound best. And the girls are fun, but I don’t always get a chance to watch them.
Haha, I actually liked them way more before TELL ME. But then SNSD came out and yeah… Before SNSD though, WG and KARA were in competition, and I liked KARA more. So if you see the pattern, I think one can conclude that WG is a fun group to watch, they have hella catchy songs, but I don’t think their vocals are strong enough to be called the best or better than the other two girl groups.
