Weezer covers BoA

Grammy nominated and platinum record selling rock band Weezer, famous for hits such as "Beverly Hills" and "My Name Is Jonas," has released the Japanese version of their new album "The Red Album" today.

As a special surprise for the Japanese listeners, Weezer did a cover of one of BoA's Japanese ballads entitled "Meri Kuri" as a bonus track. Lead singer Rivers Comuo of Weezer commented that he was "instantly taken" by the song.

Along with the release of Weezer’s Japanese album, BoA has also released her first Double A-side single, Vivid, on June 4th, 2008. The single contains Kissing You, Sparkling, Joyful Smile, and instrumentals. The three songs reflect her different music styles and have already gained a great deal of interest from fans.

This is great for the promotion of BoA and SM entertainment. SM has been waiting patiently to tackle the American market, unlike JYP and YG entertainment who seem deemed to fail. Who do you think will be the most successful Korean record label in America?

Weezer
Which record label has the best chance in America?

woo! i was really surprised when i heard about this..so i looked up the song, and it is nice ^^ I’m a big weezer fan..and i really like how they covered a boa song..Rivers’ wife is *jjang* for making him cover it!! About who has the best chance in america..i don’t know. I think groups like Suju and Wonder girls would be considered bad in America by most people, but rnb groups by YG may be considered as a knock off of RnB artists in America, since there are loads..
I think Se7en, despite how much i love his music and dancing, reminds me of Usher who is far more popular (though i prefer se7en) it’d be cool if timbaland, timberlake collaborated with se7en!! or pharell :D

Rivers Cuomo has such an American voice (for a lack of a better term). I sort of knew it’d turn out like this…
the instrumental is nice though...?

I know JYP has his three minions going for America, YG has se7en (and I have high hopes for him), but… SM is such genius at everything. I have a feeling he can make the new Britney Spears if he wanted.

Wow, Weezer doing a Boa song?  Very weird but very cool for Boa to have a famous American band cover a song of hers.

How random but this is good news smile I suppose it must be quite flattering for BoA for Weezer to do a cover on one of her songs

That’s good to hear. I like BoA a lot but idk about her making it into the U.S. market. JYP is too focused on WG right now so I guess YG has the best shot. He’s taking his time with Se7en but it’s better than just rushing into things. I think he’s taking the right precautions.

wow this would have excited 5 years ago when weezer and rivers cuomo were still awesome. but since i’m half jap i’ll still give it a listen. its good to see popular american bands diversify their musical catalogue.

either jyp or yg will probably be more successful since the english in their songs actually make sense. plus, pop is so over now.

WTH? this is a first, i think…

i’ve never heard an american band cover a japanese song in japanese…

after hearing it, i can’t help but think it’s probably better than any other attempt of an american band singing in japanese...we’ve all gone years hearing jpop and kpop singers sing (and mostly butcher) american songs...i wonder what japanese public thinks of this cover?

LOL , this is a first. But honestly speaking i doubt BOA will make it big. Her image doesnt suit the usa audience but i do have high hopes for se7en

ekk. i love BoA but she is just not american style.
i’d have to say YG would do good in american cause HipHop, R&B;and Rap are big in america.
also, its must easier to cover up an accent by rapping than singing if it has to be done. =) english rappers are not always comprehend-able. (when soulja boy normally talks its like WHAT IS HE SAYING?!)

I think all three will do equally bad.  After all, if you can’t communicate in the language of the country that you’re trying to break into, then it’s pretty much a lost cause.

SE7EN or Rain (YG or JYP) has a bigger chance of making it in America.
However, SM should take Korean-Americans and make them into little SM trainees and put them out into the American music industry and the Korean music industry. Wouldn’t it be better since most Korean-Americans can speak both English and Korean?

good luck to her then!
i think BOTH SM and YG will do good....well… at least better than JYP…
im sorry.. if JYP tries to put Wonder Girls in US....its gonna be a disaster… american critics will rip them to threads…

LOL @ most people voting for SM entertainment. I got news for you, all their groups would be labeled GAY as soon as they stepped off the plane. At least YG has a hip hop image and english speaking acts, JYP too. But bright giddy boybands? That won’t fly in the US nowadays, sad to say. I’d love to get Super Junior over here and show them the ways of the west ifyouknowwhatimean.

hell YEAH SM Ent hahaha
whos Yg and JYP LOL j/k
atleast SM Ent never showed off their connection with this rapper those rapper like YG and JYP coz in the end none of their artists make it in the US they did adapted well tho like partying and doing other slut thing, when they asked to speak eng all sounds stiff and sounds mumbling kekeke

that’s why i like SM focus Asia 1st America next kekeke

oh BTW it’s not always tobe Hip Hop R&B;to be success in america
poor then if ppl only said that only R&B;singers can be success

and Rain Seven as much as i used to like them
but hell no!!! beat that Justin Timberlake and Usher 1st then they can be success but maybe later after JT and Usher retired

rivers has a thing for asian chicks
if “goddamn you half japanese girls, do it to me every time” wasn’t enough of a clue he ended up marrying a Japanese woman xD
No wonder he was ‘instantly taken’ by boa

kpop_rubba if you ever read rivers cuomo book, his asian fetish is damn creepy. At one point in the book he said when he was in Japan he took 15 girls back to the hotel room. He didnt have enough “game” to get what he wanted even though he was celebrity so he said if you want to stay here you have to get naked now. Only 4 stayed and the rest thought he was a weirdo, but you can read excerpts like that in the book.

As much as I worship all things BoA, she’s not gonna succeed in the US. If Utada couldn’t do it, BoA definitely can’t. And Utada is fluent in English! JYP, maybe G-Soul (his voice is A-Mazing). YG, Se7en maybe, but not Big Bang.

@H8erade, yeah i was just reading about how there was some blog on the net dedicated to his sexual escapades with various asian women
i always thought he seemed like a sweet nerdy dude but now I officially find him a total creeper
ewwwww >_<;;;;
He should try hookers next time…
