Kim Ji Hoo suicide
We tried to avoid all of the recent suicide news, because well it's rather depressing, but now it's just getting ridiculous.

As if Ahn Jae Hwan and Choi Jin Shil's suicides weren't enough, a few days ago, transgender Jang Chae Won had taken her life too.

And now, model and talent Kim Ji Hoo was just discovered dead as well, making the total suicide count 4, over a period of 4-5 weeks.

We hope this isn't the beginning of more suicides to come. It's rather ridiculous and selfish of these stars to be taking their own lives, don't they know how much of an effect it has on others around them? Regardless, my deepest condolences go out to all, and hopefully it will stop here. Rest in peace.

Reminds me of the documentary i watched about how Japan introduced antidepressants as your soul having a cold.

I don’t know how the korean culture feels about getting help from a psychitrist, but they really need to stress the importance of getting help for your problems.

Then again we don’t know what goes thru their mind when they think suicide is the way out of the problem.

My prayers are with all the families.

This is incredibely tragic! South Korea is ranked #8 when it comes to suicides. However, suicides have been common recently. Especially in my city where a mother killed herself and her two young daughters yesterday. Its been all rainy and dreary all week too, that is depressing.

but they dont think bout their family. their husband/wife. their kids. their parents (especially if the one committing suicide is the only child)
errrmm.. what do u call that?
i always think that we shouldnt runaway from problems.
only cowards can think of suicide.
besides, God is the one who gave us our lives and He’s the only one who can take it away too. suicide is a big sin, dude…
especially if u see a lot of ppl struggle to survive everyday.

You ignorant people have obviously never had depression before. Sure you’ve been sad now and then but a depression is a fucking mental illness. By calling them selfish it’s like you’re saying they thought it was a cool attention grabber but no, they are not in a mental state to make the right actions.

Yeah everyone has problems but you guys think that this stuff could be prevented by eating icecream and taking a nice stroll through the park? I’m seriously sickened by how many people do not realize that depression is a mentall illness and it kills. If anyone had the choice to be in a good mental state I’m pretty sure they would… But how many suicides have there been from people who have seemingly perfect lives? It’s not that their lives sucks so put it together.

And to milangurl89:

“i wont say RIP anymore, bcuz i hate suicides. it’ll lead you to hell anyway, so how can they supposed to “rest in PEACE”? “

So suicides lead us to hell? Why? Because that’s what religion has taught people? Fuck off, they rest in peace because at the time of their undoing they thought this was the easiest way out. If they weren’t at peace when they were alive then they found it after.

“but they dont think bout their family. their husband/wife. their kids. their parents (especially if the one committing suicide is the only child)
errrmm.. what do u call that?“

I call it not being in the right mind of state to make the best decisions. Mental illness, read about it.
“i always think that we shouldnt runaway from problems.
only cowards can think of suicide.“

Sure that’s a good way to think there’s nothing to bash there. What happens if you were in their shoes? Exactly, you aren’t.
“besides, God is the one who gave us our lives and He’s the only one who can take it away too. suicide is a big sin, dude…
especially if u see a lot of ppl struggle to survive everyday. “

My mom gave me life and God isn’t giving or taking anything. Do you not realize the people who kill themselves in the first place are already struggling day to day to cope and survive with themselves?

@ People who think seeing a psychiatrist/therapist/psychologist works all the time… Haha

@SLDXA: I couldn’t agree with you more! You said all the things that I was thinking and all the things most logical, well-educated people think through when talking about suicide and depression.

@milangurl89: And you, my dear, are an utter fuckard! Do you have any idea what a person dealing with suicidal thoughts and severe depression goes through day in and day out??? Have you walked a mile in their shoes, and I mean more than just saying, “oh I got a D on my exam and now I really just wanna die!“? When a person’s pain outweighs their coping resources and mechanisms, when they don’t see any other way out but literally “self-murder,“ as gruesome as that sounds, don’t you realize how desperate they must be? How alone, alienated, and in pain and utter distress day in and day out they must feel? I can tell you from personal experience that dealing with severe depression isn’t a selfish, cowardly, and easy way out approach to life. If you think it’s so easy to kill your self, and I mean actually kill yourself (not do it for attention, but that’s rarely the case in most suicide attempts), why don’t you try it yourself? It’s actually quite a difficult to kill yourself and make sure the mechanism you use is deadly enough to do the job; it’s rather morbid and only a person who has been at that end of the spectrum can imagine and understand the amount of desperation, hurt, pain, loneliness, isolation, etc… one must be going through to do that. And, you still think that suicidal people don’t think about their family members, friends, loved ones, etc…? I can tell you, again from personal experience, that the pain I felt was immensified by the fact that I knew how much pain and suffering it would cause to the people I love if I ended my life. Everytime I thought about killing myself, I thought about my parents, my siblings, my friends….and I hated myself even more and more each day…and, as a result, guess what??? it made me even more suicidal. i already thought i was horrible person and to have the added burden of being labeled as “selfish” and “cruel” and “cowardly” defintely didn’t help in getting better or seeking help from others. That pain and guilt only made my depression worse and took a toll on my health, but someone like you, some ignorant, snot-faced little brat who knows nothing about the real world couldn’t possibly empathize with another human being who might not be as lucky as you to live in a little bubbly, worry free world.

All I can say is, thank goodness for an understanding highschool biology teacher who I confided in and who wasn’t judgemental at all, like certain ignorant idiots posting here. I’m a lot better and happier than I was for a long time and haven’t felt that way for the last 2 years.

I agree with most of what SLDXA said. Depression is something that most people overlook…its not a thing that can be cured after a few sessions of therapy, it can take years for you to be cured and even then, it never really leaves you. I have someone really close and precious to me go through depression and let me tell you, its not pretty. Even though i don’t know exactly what goes through their mind, and i definitely don’t agree on people taking their own lives, to be actually MAD at those people and say that their going to hell and shouldn’t rest in peace, it just makes it seem like your a failure as a person. And if you think that only “God” can take away someones life just because he “created” it, then your really something. That’s like say its okay for a mother to kill her own child just because she gave life to it. But i guess that’s religion. I won’t argue much with your opinion about God. We as outsiders don’t know ANYTHING about them, so we as outsiders should give our condolences and just stfu.

^^^^^

I had one of my best friends try to kill himself. He was a nice guy there never seemed to be anything wrong with him he was as normal as can be right? Wrong - they found him one day in a pool of blood but a few people who happened to be in the remote area found him and called an ambulance. He finally opened up and gave insight to his “world” and let me tell you… It hit me hard. It was such a scary insight to what I originally knew or thought about things.

Things aren’t always as it seems.

You have to look at trends when discussing this topic.  This is not that different from the suicide “epidemic” in Micronesia where one wealthy, popular teenager suicide unleashed many more suicides in the months to come.  If one looks at Korean news, he or she can see there are many more suicides that occured besides the celebrities.  The tipping point has tipped and I believe there will be more suicides in the months to come.  As more people commit suicides, it becomes the IT thing to do as people above already had mentioned.  It becomes accepted, and people become numb to the idea.  As Malcolm Gladwell mentions in his book, The Tipping Point, previous crimes/ suicides breed more of the same acts.  Like the prominent teenager who spawned more suicides, these celebrities (who impacts many more people) will spawn more of the same acts.
