Taiji Boys

Legend Seo Taiji formerly of Taiji & The Boys turned 37 yesterday. On his homepage he left a message for all his fans saying that it's scary that's he's inching towards death. He also said he will enjoy Meyuck Guk (Seaweed soup). He also stated that he's looking forward to his comeback in the near future.

Some back history on Seo Taiji & The Boys, if you aren't familiar with them. Seo Taiji & The Boys were a collaboration of three young men from different walks of life. Seo Taiji & The Boys were composed of the lead Singer Seo Taiji, and the two dancers Lee Juno and Yang Hyun Suk. Seo Taiji was in a band called Sinawe, at 17 he dropped out of school because he felt the school system was corrupting the minds of the youth. Shortly thereafter, Sinawe broke up and he discovered Lee Juno (Whom unfortunately became a bum) and Yang Hyun Suk (Whom later formed YG Entertainment) to form the dance group Seo Taiji & The Boys.

This was a critical moment, as they forever changed the music landscape in Korea. They were essentially the founders of KPOP. They were one of the first to write about issues in Korea and dance over rap beats. They became the most famous artists in Korea & dominated all awards, and record sales for almost a decade. They used various genre's of music, from dance rap, to rock n' roll, to heavy metal, to gangsta rap. They're legends and if not for them, the Korean music landscape could've looked very different. Their impact & influence is immeasurable. Happy Birthday to the legend Seo Taiji.

Some of the Taiji Boys videos:

Nan Arayo (I Know - 1992)

Hayoga (1993)

Freestyle (1995)

^ I don’t see how every song sounds like Wreckx-n-Effect. I can hear some similarities for a second or two but that’s about it.

freestyle/=rumpshaker I hear a horn at the beginning of freestyle that sounds like :48 - :49 that plays in rumpshaker, and that’s about it (besides when its repeated). That does not equate to the same song. Both songs sound totally different.

LOL it’s sad that the first person I recognized in that picture was Yang Hyun Suk.

I don’t think Seo Taiji changed anything. If it wasn’t him it would’ve been some other douche-bag that copied American music, and made it popular in Korea.

Well he did change the landscape of music, you can’t really refute that. You can say someone would’ve come down the line, but that’s just speculation.

I agree with De La Methode, this is the guy that changed Korean music. Hell if he wasn’t around, this blog might not even exist.

the 90s was the best decade that mankind has ever seen hands down! I love Seo Taiji, he’s what got me into Korean music all those years ago!

Heeey did he serve in the army?  I’ve never heard anyone discuss this…

I always hard of Seo Taiji and the Boys and had no clue who they were.
They’re surprisingly pretty good.
I mean, it does sort of look like a geek and his groupies in the first vid, but heyy they aren’t bad.
Although he looks better now.
Even if he’s as old as my mom.

I certainly appreciate the write-up about music’s environmental impact. This is something that weighs on my mind constantly, and I am looking for any alternative choices to product and touring. Thanks for the awesome post man.
