DBSK TVXQ KPOP Korean Music
DBSK / TVXQ recently completed their Asian Tour in Beijing, China. SM Entertainment stated that after calculating the sum total of the concerts in the six Asian cities, more than 390,000 people attended.

The Asian Tour took place over sixteen months, the six cities included Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Bangkok, Shanghai and Beijing. Because of the huge number of people attending the concerts, TVXQ set the record for foreign artist to attract the most people to their concerts two years in a row (I believe that's a world stat).

An example of their popularity during The Asian Tour would be the shutdown of an entire Thailand mall at a TVXQ press conference, because more than 15,000 fans and reporters were trying to see the group.

TVXQ plans to release a new album in Korea this Fall, after concentrating on the Japanese market for most of the year.

TVXQ should enjoy this time of success while they can, because you never know what Lee Soo Man and SM Entertainment have up their sleeves. They could always do to TVXQ what they did to H.O.T.

TIME Magazine wrote:
The contracts they had signed with production house SM Entertainment called for each band member to receive royalties of less than 1 cent for every CD sold; members of other groups were getting 17. Arithmetic revealed the ugly truth: whenever one of their albums reached the magic 1 million-copies-sold milestone, each H.O.T. member could count on payment totaling a paltry $10,000.

After fruitless renegotiations with SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man last spring, three of H.O.T.'s five members split from the company, killing the band and breaking the hearts of millions of teenage fans. "We would complain that we never had enough money," says ex-H.O.T. singer Tony An, "and Lee Su Man would say: 'I even pay for your gas, what are you complaining about?'"

Hmm... so TVXQ, I hope you guys negotiated a better deal and you should watch your backs because you're dealing with the snake, Lee Soo Man.

ahhhh, LSM is a heartless businessman in my opinion. But TVXQ and other artists such Super Junior,BoA and SNDS wouldnt have been this famous without his help in the music industry.
But still, I friggin hope that TVXQ disbanding woulnt be happening anytime soon (i wished they’d stay together forever...>.<) If they are though...all hell will break loose
Imagine of all the fan girls potesting...and you can bet that im not just gonna sit arond and let LSM do his thang (even though my opinion wouldnt have mattered that much to him >_>)

SM isn’t really the worst but he’s just kind of cunning. By saying he’s the worst, you’re saying he doesn’t promote his artists well, which is not true. He kinda overworks them sometimes but thanks to that, his artists get a good amount of popularity. Well that wasn’t the case for CSJH -__- but other artists, yea.

I hope DBSK won’t be in the same situation H.O.T was in. I know it’s going to be BIG BIG BIG news if DBSK broke up. =[

LSM BETTER not do anything bad to BoA. =[ She gets really good album sales anyway.

@boshi noi:  That was for H.O.T.
I think most of the companies milk their artists.  These kids give their childhood to training and their early adulthood to fame =/.  But despite the (widely accepted form of) child exploitation, the Asian entertainment companies protect their kids, unlike the American ones that build you up and let you crash and burn (*ahem* Britney).  But then, I suppose the Asian companies can’t afford to let their artists breakdown, they’ve invested too much in them.
Haha, @JbabeeLoVe: more money than they deserve?

the only solution is : you buy their album, help save them. -_-
Can’t really blame LSM, he’s a businessman, w/o him, there won’t be DBSK too.

all us DBSK fans are worried about how this is gonna turn out. But I think SM was smarter this time. I think after seeing Shinhwa and how they’ve managed to stay successful and doing solo projects while keeping the group intact that SM knows that a boyboy can be bankable for a long time to come! They should know now they cannot afford to lose TVXQ in the way they let H.O.T go. Plus they’ve invested waaay too much in the Japanese market to let that all go to waste. SM made it so all their contracts expire at different times. I believe Jaejoong’s expires first early next year? We are all holding our breath that negotiations with him will go smoothly! You never know what SM is gonna do!

all the ‘milking’ is good for their popularity, but i just wish they would be allowed breaks from time to time.  you always hear stories about these artists fainting, getting sick from exhaustion, etc. i still think SM is an awful man, but he’s a good businessman i guess.

I will say this. SM is an intelligent man, and he knows how to get people in and out of the music industry. I personally think he overworks his clients, but I think the DBSK boys knew that the road to stardom wasn’t going to be paved with gold. They have worked hard, and earned their spot in a lot of young women’s hearts, I honestly think SM wouldn’t disband them. At least not now. And DBSK has stated on TV shows they would love to be around for a while to come, so we never know. If the boys can stick it out, I think they could just make even bigger history than they already have.

^ahaha...me too...I would probably cry...ahaha...I cried when I was a kid when I learned that Kurt Cobain’s dead...bwahaha...I thought he was still alive though, a kid’s mind if you can understand...ahehe…
I don’t really think they get that less pay...I mean, Heechul from SuJu bought his parents a car...Hankyung from SuJu, too, made his mom a dumpling restaurant in China...I mean, if they really do just get 1 cent per album even with their TV appearances, they won’t have enough money to do that...and Hankyung rarely goes on TV and they only have 2 albums released...Yoochun helped his mom to run an ice cream parlor here in US...so, I really don’t think they get that less pay...and LSM gave all members of DBSK luxurious cars...and Junsu asking an IPod to LSM before and he gave him one because he didn’t have one unlike the other members(thinking about it, it’s just so cute)…
If LSM disbanded DBSK he’s the craziest man alive and it would only prove that he’s not a gold-digger...and I can’t imagine DBSK on a different company either…
when the boys said they trust LSM that he’s like a father figure to them...I’ll just believe what the boys said...all the rumors about LSM I just choose not to believe them…
and the TIME Magazine article was YEARS ago, they probably change even a bit like how Johnny Kitagawa of JE Entertainment changed...and thanks to SM if H.O.T. wasn’t at SM, I don’t think they would be that famous…
and good job DBSK!

the first statement is for Leah not Changminwhore…
oh well, didn’t they already stated that DBSK’s going to sign a contract for 10 years more...as a DBSK fan, I’m not really worried that they’re going to disband...but they do need rest...like A LOT of rest!
Changminwhore would love this.......NOT!
Changmin at their recently Beijing Concert:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=v2yKPFDk6BE
I want to stop him from performing while watching thi...even if he doesn’t want to, give him a rest! Didn’t they say that Changmin’s the one that get sick easily and has a weaker body? If I was there, i would punch him already...oh, jeez...he’s getting me worried...like, he seriously is getting me worried...if he collapsed like Bada at that stage I would hate his hyungs (not really) and yet he’s still smiling!!!!! Lucky fans, I say....it’s all right if Jae fell (not really) but he always does, so, it’s kind of normal...he’s clumsy, what can I do?...I would punch them one by one if one of them collapse on stage…
so if LSM disbands them, I’ll hunt him down...ahaha...those boys have been through so much…

I’m really proud of DBSK, they accomplished so much and work so incredibly hard.  They were all over the place the past week, jumping from one country to the next.  They are looking a bit haggard.  LSM should know that DBSK is his biggest asset right now along with Boa so I hope he’s treating them right.  But H.O.T. getting only $10,000 each for a million albums sold?  DBSK don’t even have half that number of records sold for each album they put out.  I don’t even want to think how little DBSK might really be getting compared to the millions they bring into Avex and SM Entertainment.

i don’t think it’s the same for dbsk.. i mean, chun just a bought a HUGE house, he’s gotta have money for that right? and they always talk about how they’re giving money to their parents.. they seem like they’re happy anyways..

23.  NiPK
Jun 16, 2008 - 03:54 PM

DBSK is not HOT and Shinhwa, and LSM knows that so well.  I bet he has no regret to let some boybands go or disband.  Sometimes he made bad decisions, but regret? No way!!  He knows he can produce popular bands anytime, but yes, HOT and DBSK are phenomena.

DBSK must be careful dealing with LSM, but with their crazy working attitudes, manners and talents, LSM would like to keep them for sure.  I think involving with Avex give DBSK benefits and some power to negotiate with SM.  I doubt that DBSK boys want to leave SM like Shinhwa.  As a fan raspberry, I certainly believe that Yunho can make a good deal for both parties because he loves both DBSK and SM.  All members love music and see it as the most important thing than the side-career like acting etc.

I feel bad for LSM.  He made many artists famous, so it’s just fair that he gets the money to cancel the bashing out.  I’d create LSM fanclub. LOL

24.  Hiroshi
Jun 16, 2008 - 04:13 PM

I think Yunho has a pretty good head on his shoulder and I’m sure he has a vision as to where the group would go.  I think they make good money.  Chun just bought a castle and these guys drive nice cars.  I think as long as they get paid decent and they’re doing what they love, they’re happy.  They don’t look like the type who have a lot of greed for money.  At any rate, if LSM is the cause for DBSK’s disband, his headquarter will probably be flatten like a pancake (after being stomped by the Korean fans population.) I don’t think they even need the Chinese fans population to help.

When i heard how the entire group gets like five cents of every cd they get sold . .i was like outraged. But if you think of it realistically, they do a lot of travelling .The food, the clothes, the apartment and the tutition are all paid by SM entertainment. Them getting as little as 10 thousdand dollars per year is somewhat understandable. They dont have to pay for their daily expenses and nor do they have to worry about the concert setups. They just do choregraphy and sing songs written for them.

UNKNOWN, SM Entertainment gets probably $5 - $6 per album sold. How is it fair to give H.O.T. 5 - 6 cents per album sold? Even if the record company paid for food, housing, etc. it’ll probably be a mid 5 figure sum ($50,000). So from $5 million that they earned they spend $100,000.... talk about greed.

Anywayz The least they could do was give $1 so each member could get $200,000 per million album sold. I understand it’s a business but the $10,000 per million album sold is just exploitation. I don’t know how the funds from when H.O.T. did concerts, appearances, autograph sessions, etc were split up.

Congratulations. They’ve achieved so much in such a short amount of time. I sometimes forget how young the DBSK members are.

About them disbanding: It will happen some day, but I sure as hell hope it won’t be anytime soon. I read somewhere that their contracts expire at different times, so even if the group does decide to leave SM, then they can’t leave together. LSM is an evil genius, man. Stevie is right SM isn’t the worst label there are many labels that screw over artists big time. That’s why some of these artists need to smarten up and know what they are getting into.

But I think this is why a lot of DBSK fangirls bash new boybands coming out and say things like “They’ll never surpass DBSK” because they are scared DBSK will be replace but in reality they aren’t. So I understand the fear surround the 5 year curse thingy. But all in all DBSK is a very good group with real talent they’ll be around for a while =)
