DBSK / TVXQ Big Bang Kpop Korean Music
Korea's top two boy bands, Big Bang and DBSK are releasing their Japanese albums in Korea.

Big Bang released their Japanese album "With U" simultaneously in both Japan and Korea. This is Big Bang's second foray into the Japanese Market after they released "For the World" back in January. The album consists of 8 tracks in total, G. Dragon worked with fellow YG Entertainment members Perry and Teddy of 1Tym on the album. Big Bang did have a successful concert in March where more than 10,000 fans attended at the Tokyo JCB Hall. However, they didn't have too much success on the Japanese charts unlike their counterparts DBSK.

DBSK / TVXQ is releasing “Beautiful You / Millennium Love Song,” their 22nd Japanese single album in Korea today. Unlike Big Bang, DBSK / Tohoshinki found a lot of success on the Oricon charts. They achieved the top spots on both the Oricon daily single chart and Oricon weekly chart. They're only the second non-japanese artist(s) to hold the spot twice on Oricon’s weekly chart. This was achieved only once before, more than 24 years ago. DBSK also plans to put on a good show for the Korean fans next week (June 7th) for the Dream Concert.

Will Big Bang be a success this time around in Japan? Who'll sell more albums in Korea? Maybe new kiddie munchkin group SHINee will outshine them both?
Who'll sell more albums in Korea?

Big Bang’s good but they’re better with Korean Music...besides DBSK is already at top, and they’re probably gonna stay up there. Shinee’s good, but don’t think they got what it takes yet.

As much as I love Big Bang,
they will not be as successful
as THSK over in Japan. It took THSK
a while to get their name recognized in Japan.
But good luck to them!!

PS.—Oppa, you owe me a CD! Get me the new
THSK’s Japanese album <3 Thanks! haha ;D

DBSK will be the most successful because they’ve been around the longest. I’m glad their Beautiful You single reached #1. (The only other single that did that was Purple Line.) This shows that Japan is paying a lot more attention to them. Big Bang is good, but as most people said, they need to stick w/ Korean music. Their songs have been sounding the same lately too (but they are popular in the U.S. like wtf O_O lol). I think SHINee will gain a good amount of success because their young, new and from SM BUT they still have a way to go. They’re off to a good start already anyway. I like all of them.

but… since DBSK has had much more experience than BIGBANG and has been the the Japanese music industry for so long… they’ll probably sell better..
i mean come one… DBSK has the BIGGEST fan base in the WORLD…

tohoshinki’s japanese singles don’t sell so well in korea, i think those tend to sell somewhere in the 20-25k range? however, i’m expecting to see high sales when they release their korean album this fall.

but anyway, i’m more excited for their new japanese single. the preview sounds amazing. i hope they can break another record with this one.

the only way Shinee will sell more records is if they somehow perform a miracle and find a way to restore record sales in Korea…

Big Bang is never gonna have that level of success in Japan because A) they have not dedicated enough time. B)They’re still releasing english music there… Unless you’re a freakishly popular western artist in Japan like Avril, Mariah Carey, Madonna etc english is not gonna get you far in Japan

Big Bang has still a long road to go...They’re 2nd in Korea or 3rd?...Base on popularity SuJu is 2nd...I think...anyway, back to Japan....It took DBSK hard work and talents to be where they are at Japan now...They need to pay off double (though they won’t) what DBSK has done...I think, base on their style of music they won’t penetrate as much…
I don’t care if they’re going to release their Japanese album in Korea, I’m excited for DBSK’s comeback...Big Bang’s album is English (which is higly anticipated since it’s in English) while it would be DBSK’s, sort of, first comeback album...Not really...it would be an English vs. comeback album...And I’m care more about DBSK’s new Japanese single...the song was so good…
and wait...sometimes I get mixed up..."They’re only the second non-japanese artist(s) to hold the spot twice on Oricon’s weekly chart. This was achieved only once before, more than 24 years ago.” Wasn’t BoA’s top it 7 times or is it daily? Does that mean they’re more successful, in terms of charts, than BoA? If it’s, cool then…
Then if it isn’t, do they assume BoA’s Japanese? ahehe...I know that’s stupid...well, any BoA fans answer me, please?! ahehe…

26.  tekk
May 30, 2008 - 04:18 PM

HPDANM: BoA has had many #1 weekly albums, but only one of her single (Do The Motion) topped the weekly chart.

her album sales are way higher than tohoshinki’s.

Dbsk is older but people are prob getting tired of the “old”
Big Bang has a good chance but Koreans prob like korean music more than japanese music.
Shinee probably has a somewhat (but still very low) chance cause they are new but then people like new so thats helping them and bringing their chances up and down.
Good luck to all 3 though.

@tekk...oh...that’s what I was thinking after posting it, too...but doesn’t Oricon Chart only count the singles?…

@swt_turtle...age doesn’t really matter...if they have exceeding talents age would never matter, even though there are fresh ones that comes out it doesn’t guarantee that just because they’re younger they would surpass their sunbaes...and because there’s DBSK, especially it’s in their own company, new ones will actually suffer great pressure...Like DBSK to H.O.T....I doubt they didn’t feel pressure when they debuted and started to get popular and recognize...There’s always H.O.T. beside them...So will the new groups, there will always be their sunbaes (great ones) beside them…

and SHINee well...... SHINee is SHINee I think they will have notoriety in Japan but not right now coz they are so new and young and (gay) inexperienced

P.S AND WHAT’S UP with Big Bang making an ENGLISH album and then calling it as a Japanese one????
as much as I like Big Bang DUDES if you are going to sell something in Japan for the first time MAYBE IT SHOULD BE IN JAPANESE!

well i happen to think big bang’s japanese albums are amazing. in big bang’s with u album, tae yang’s solo “my girl” is partly in japanese. the reason why they make an english ablum in japan is cause ‘Some songs are recorded in English to retain the original feel of the songs, as recording them in Japanese may change the feel of the song due to difference in language.’ it doesn’t really matter where they sell it.. we’re going to buy them anyway.

32.  tekk

HPDANM: Oricon has seperate charts for albums and singles.
One artist/group will be #1 on the single chart, while another artist/group will take the top spot on the album chart.

the Oricon International chart (the one BB is on) works the same way.

DBSK maybe the oldest group compared to the two but Big bang is still the same age and they aren’t that new...DBSK will be at the top for a while or at least for couple of more years. Big Bang i think will be popular but if i had to compare DBSK to Big Bang popularity it would go to DBSK. Shinee still young and still going through puberty… if they continue to put out hit singles then i can see them gain more popularity etc. But i think with album sales totally lacking in Korean industry who knows what will happen. And i really doubt they will debut Shinee in Japan anytime soon

I pick DBSK for the win.  They have a huge hardcore dedicated fanbase in Korea, even when they were gone for almost two years, their fans keep hanging on for their return and they are surprisingly still as obsessed as before.  Big bang probably be second after DBSK but Shinee is too new to even think about selling as much albums as these two groups.

AGREED! to the comment about Big Bang’s “japanese” album being in english. but i’m guessing there Japanese isn’t up to standard. or maybe they were trying to spread to Americans too (though i highly doubt)
=)

also, don’t Big Bang and DBSK have different styles though?
Big Bang is all YG and DBSK is all SM! =)
plus this is DBSK’s 22nd single right.
and i don’t know if hiphop/rap is as popular as pop in Japan as it is in korea. someone know if it is?

Not to be offensive but if you look at the facts how can Big Bang reach the Oricon charts if they are only going out into Japan for like how many months? It took DBSK a while i think it’ll take them a while.. and for their english… it’s not like they can learn the whole language and perfect in like a couple of months it takes some time..

I’m really getting annoyed by comments like, “DBSK has been there longer,” “They debuted first,” and all those nonsense! Shinhwas has been in the industry for 10 good long years! Yet DBSK surpass whatever Shinhwa achieved in their 10 years in just 5 years. I don’t know, I’m just fed up with all the “They debuted first” crap ever since I’ve learn of SuJu and DBSK...I’ve learned about DBSK first, of course...For 3 years of being a DBSK fan, all I’ve heard from other fans why DBSK is more successful than other bands is because they debuted first! Why is that? I just want to know, why? SS501 debuted first than SuJu, but you want to or not, SuJu is a lot more popular than Double S…
If Big Bang learns Japanese (It’s not that hard, DBSK learned it in 2 years and speak it fluently now, it’s impossible that they won’t) and work their butts off like DBSK did, they might achieve what DBSK achieved and is still achieving, but by that time it won’t be as rewarding as DBSK’s; and DBSK will grow bigger. I personally think, that it’s a matter of hard work, dedication, perspiration, and most of all talents, not just being in the industry for long...Being in the industry earns you 25% of respect, that’s all, or maybe more than that. One day, we’ll heard in news that SHINee is world’s best boy band (ahehe)…

DBSK is gonna win cuz they have crazy fangirls. Plus the fact that Big Bang’s english is horrible. Now if they both released Korean albums at the same time, then that would be a battle. But rite now it’s like pitting Mike Tyson against a 5 year old.

^playing safe? That is one ridiculous claim...they’re in Japan, of course, they would get more recognition if they sing in Japanese...Where have you seen someone who wants to penetrate other country’s music industry by using other’s language?...though, English is the universal language...it’s as if you’re saying, “You’ll be popular if you sing Spanish in France.”
