TVXQ and BoA

America, Are You Ready for TVXQ and BoA?

You may be ready, but they're nowhere near ready for you!

Not too long ago, Allkpop reported Lee Soo Man's decision to promote Kwon BoA in the United States. Following up as scheduled, the boss confirmed that boy band TVXQ, who will also debut in America, and BoA are indeed not ready for America.

The press conference, held in early May, was long awaited as everyone wanted to know what would be of the two entities. Lee Soo Man at first briefly talked about plans for the U.S. market and tried to direct attention away from it. He moved onto other matters but as reporters pressed on the topic of America, he reluctantly replied with a simple “Not yet.” Lee Soo Man added that he will use have TVXQ and BoA expand their careers in Asia before crossing borders. On a brighter note, they’ll be back in Korea! “Before any of this can happen, things need to be done and goals need to be met. Only then can we move onto another goal.”

This truly shows that Lee Soo Man knows what he is doing. Unlike JYP and YG Entertainment, he did not lie or over-entice netizens only to leave them hanging for several months.

hmm.
I dont really want DBSK to debut in the US.
Because its more fun to watch them play around in Korea, they cant really express themselves well in Japanese because they still are not fully fluent. So they dont play around as much as they do in Korea.
But I’m excited to watch them on my TV =P

Props to Lee Soo Man for recognizing that his talents are nowhere near ready to debut in America.  Maybe he can give JYP a much-needed smack upside the head.

As much as I would love to have DBSK in America, the U.S. has been over the boy band phenomenon for at least 7 or 8 years now.  I don’t think their talent would matter much - if they wear their usual outfits, people will just laugh them off.  If BoA can get her English to a near-fluent level, though, she might have a shot.

I don’t want DBSK to debut in US XDDD…
I love their music but I like it better if they stay in Japan or Korea .. Or just go back to Korea because they are more ‘them’ there :D.
And I totally agree with Serpantine..

xoxLIZZI3xox ???? Girs Generation?? OMFG XDD NOOO…
DBSK is a big and I mean a really big step ahead of them..

And yeah I think people are gonna make fun of them 2 :x…
example LOOK at their tour outfits , but maybe if they work really hard or something well yeah I don’t :S..

LSM knows what he is doing.

Plus, Micky said he never wanted to come back to America for what happened in the past. Yeah, they’re coming for one day, but to stay here? No.

TVXQ cannot debut in the US. They’d get made fun of here =(
I think solo singers are better off debuting though..but not bands.
I love TVXQ, but i just don’t think they’d be sucessful here..it would be hard for them. they have tons of fans in the US but i really don’t want them singing in english =/
soo..i hope LSM doesn’t approach the american market..asia ftw ^_^

they will all fail imo (se7en, rain, boa, dbsk, wondergirls), but out of all of them i think se7en has the best chance. the boy band craze ended in america long ago so dbsk will definately not make it. IF someone were actually suceed in the us market i would have to think brian joo of ftts because of his english, but even he won’t sell tons of records.

Here’s the video of BoA’s Rare english interview: http://youtube.com/watch?v=vShmHT6uRJs

She had a hard time saying “Jennifer” which sounded alot more like “Jenniper” haha. But I think her english is way better than Rain’s fob-ness.

america is the dumbest decision...everyone knows the next economic superpower is china…

they need to strengthen their presence in china (and, of course, japan) where there are fewer cultural differences (compared to the us) and they already have fan support...in addition, there are fewer logistical problems (ex. travel time and time differences)…

they should master those neighboring markets as well as the other asian markets before going to the us...i think that would be the more successful and profitable strategy...it makes me wonder if they really did their market research on the us for asian music...i’d like to see the swot analysis they performed (assuming they did one)…

I don’t want them to debut in the US.

They’ve already put forth so much in debuting in Japan, and adding US to the list will make everything even more difficult and tiring for him.

Plus, they should stay in Korea instead of going to Japan or NA, since they are much happier and free there :(

but anyway, it’s good to see at least one company making smart decisions. :x

I agree, the boyband cocept in America is extinct..vanished! Even the girl group concept is not as popular (only for the Disney crowd). I really wouldn’t want THSK to come only because America is going to tear them apart and make them feel like sh*t. I can’t stand the thought of them going through an emotional rollarcoaster while adapting to American culture and still practicing for performances. Some of you may think we’re Anti-Asian or something, but as Americans we have a fairly good idea of how our mainstream system works. American may be considered a mixed salad, but we still have our share of close-minded, righteous, over-nationalistic, judgmental hicks. If they have wishes to go to America, this boosts American’s ego as a super power..as the supposed place to really really be globally successful. I say they should take over the rest of Asia, than Europe, etc...and make America last...make America beg for them. Cause right now, I don’t think Asian stars will be welcomed. If they want to make it here, they have to shed their cultural identity and copy American mainstream music.

NOOOOOOOOOOO. dbsg is like nsync. people will frkcn laugh & make fun of them like crazy. T_T. its going to be so embarassing espeically sine they cannot speak english! stop!!

20.  missy

I’d rather not have them debut in the States. Debuting in America means they’ll have to change themselves—image-wise and music-wise, and I do not want that to happen. I mean, look at Se7en, he’s now spitting out lyrics such as:

“Lemme holla at you girl!”
“You can google me, baby.”

Wtf? No thanks.

DBSK in America?! DO NOT WANT. It’s like what missy said. Ugh. And if I see DBSK pulling an Akanishi Jin and acting all hardcore/gangsta later in their home country or Japan… [dies]

AS MUCH as i love tvxq, its impossible for them to make it big THINKING REALISTICALLY. With hero’s girl like traits and the “coupling” people would label them as a gay group. Their bubblegum pop may work on some fans but if u wanna impress such a multi racial group, its impossible.

I never heard of plans to debut TVXQ in America.  I only heard of Boa being the one who was supposed to cross over.  I rather have TVXQ be in Asia only because that’s their territory and they are loved very much there.  And I would highly dislike it if they changed their image to fit in with mainstream America, much like what happened to Min and Seven.  Blah, just try to be yourself.

well i guess its wise to play down any plans he has instead of raising expectations
but when was TVXQ supposed to debut here??? I think if theyre successful enough at hollywood bowl he’ll heavily consider it.

im a dbsk fan since they debut.....but i liek their korean songs better...im waitin 4 them 2 go back 2 korea n hv their album come out....
idk if boa gonna make big in u.s......cuz itz totally differ here....

I agree with almost all these comments here, if there was a market they should try to conquer, China would be it right now.  Plus the language is more similar to Japanese/Korean, and they already have hardcore fans there, so it wouldn’t be as embarrassing as if they were to come to the US.  I think the boy/girl pop band concept is beyond dead and buried.  There’s someone standing with a shovel over its grave ready to knock it back in if it tries to come back to life.  If there isn’t I’m willing to take the post.

I’m glad SM is not a dummy. Honestly… America is over boy bands. I agree with the person that mentioned girls generation have a better chance, probably, since some of those are still around but even so they’d have to change their style anyway. I love DBSK but seriously, they need to be fluent at english at least. Plus, America is stuck on some booty-clubbing HipHop mode, so I don’t know how well DBSK’s style will mesh at the moment.. maybe if they came around when B2K was still cool lol hrmm.
P.S. I cant wait for them to be back in Korea, they always seem to be more playful and comfortable there and its nice to see them not so serious and just having fun ^_^

May 10, 2008 - 05:39 PM

as much as i love the boys...stay in asia.

america doesn’t want you and you dont want america...trust me on this.

i mean there’s hundreds of fans here who would love to see them...but thats why we have hollywood bowl. no need to ruin careers over a country who’s majority wont give a damn anyway.  -__-

32.  veropetho
May 10, 2008 - 05:40 PM

The US would tear DBSK a new a hole. Boy groups are long since dead. The androgynous pretty boy look may be popular over there, but everyone would just call them G A Y here.

Teehee~ they could expand themselves to Europe X3~
I’d welcome the Dong Bang boys here, anytime!!

But if they want to consolidate their fame in Asia, I’d totally go for China. Not only it is the biggest market out there but.. I’ll be going to China for a full year in the 3rd year of University, as the placement year, so...yeah =P

I mean BoA...ok
but TVXQ?? yea...think again. If they do come here I’ll be rooting for them but right now, their English, well, sounds like Engrish. sorry.
I’m glad he knows BoA and TVXQ have to conquer Asia before coming into another continent.

@veropetho lol yeah I forgot to mention that too. especially Hero. It’s not really “cool” in America to look like that, unfortunately o_O;; they really gonna just think they roll on the other side ~_~

36.  xevilangel117x

america is not ready for a boy band.. not even native speaker boy bands. i’m sorry but DBSK won’t succeed in the US if they try to look all hardass all the time and use english lyrics that don’t even make sense.

US=World.  Everyone knows America is a insensitive place and the era of milk and cook is ancient history but really they don’t have to enter the US market.  They can just tour as a foreign band here.  I’ll be more than glad to see them tour over here but if not I don’t mind flying over there to see them.

@hiroshi- yeah, that’s true. Its better for them to just tour.

LSM is thinking! Yay!

...NOOOOOO! As much as I like them, DBSK will DIE in AMerica. Boa needs to fix her english, same with DBSK (more so) if they want to debut here in the US.

They’ll fail, mainly because they’d have to change their style. And half the time, its just a rip off American music. If you have nothing new to give, you won’t make it. Plus, DBSK has the feminine look, except for maybe Changmin and Yunho. Basically they’ll be ridiculed.

SNSD would FAIL here, unless the went to Disney Channel… Even there, they might fail. My friend likes Disney things and when she say SNSD she went “they piss me off”. So yeah. They’ll fail. Unless there are a lot of guys here with an Asian fetish.

Gotta correct some things here:

1. ‘America is not ready for a boy band’.  FALSE.  We wouldn’t care for a boy band because we’ve had boy band-mania ALREADY.  Been there, done that.

2.  ‘Make America beg for it’.  Beg...for what, pray tell?  A boy band?  Please.  We didn’t even beg for the Beatles!  They came over here, played there music and the teen girls went wild and that was all she wrote!  It’ll be a cold day in hell before the US market ‘begs’ for a DBSK/TVXQ.

Nice wishful thinking, though, but next time, stay in the zone called reality.

LMBO!

to the first commenter, Serpantine, are you fluent in Japanese to say that? cause from what i gathered from their tv appearances and even during their concert, the boys are almost fluent in tha language. the Japanese fans understand them and they can now joke. and if you cant call making OYAJI GAGS fluent, i dont know what is. to be able to use puns in a language shows a person’s knowledge in it.

grr, i hate when people just spurt words for the sake of it!

I also think that SNSD has a greater chance of making it in the US than either DBSK or Boa. They do have 2 members who can speak fluent english.

Of all the SM artists, I think CSJH has the best success rate here in the States. All of them are pretty hot and can sing and dance. I’m not sure how great their English is, though.

My brother has the hots for one of them. I forgot who.
