Big Bang is starting off 2008 with a major bang! Korea's vocal, rap, and dance quintet are storming the J-pop music scene. Consisting of Tae Yang, Seung Ri, Dae Sung, T.O.P., and band leader G-Dragon, the group is set to make it big in the Land of the Rising Sun after landing their grand 2007 K-pop hit "Lies". For the World -- Big Bang's Japanese album -- consists of eight English songs inspired by hip-hop, dance, and soul elements, with major composition and song-writing contributions by G-Dragon. Big Bang promises to extend their fame to Japan and beyond in 2008. Here is their first single release "How Gee" from their Japanese album - For The World on ALLKPOP.Big Bang's English pronunciation is mediocre. I mean how hard is it to say "Big Bang, gon' raise the roof y'all" correctly? Then again, their pronunciation is a lot better compared to other artists trying to learn English. Don't you think it's odd that Big Bang's How Gee is in English for a Japanese album? You would think if an artist is recording a Japanese album, they would at least sing in Japanese. I wonder if the Japanese fans will be mesmerized or disappointed by their Engrish album.

I don’t know what you’re talking about—for all members being born and raised in Korea their english is AMAZING, esp G-dragon… He sounds American. Hell, I know Koreans who have lived in the US pretty much their whole life and can’t speak English half as well.
I think they’re being sly with this English-Japanese release. I think they’re testing the waters in Japan and getting their name out there and no matter how poorly it sells they can say it was because it wasn’t a strictly Japanese album… it was a release for their international fans. DBSK did a similar thing years ago with the release of the HUG (international version) single… and they haven’t released an English song since!
Much props to big bang!

These boys actually passed my English “test” *LOL* Even most raps were done in English so yea thumbs up. YG really prepared them well I guess..I still find Se7en’s “English” funny XD Where’s the English album Se7en??!!!

Their English sounds good. I just didn’t get the video.

I like the video, and the music.. but they should have stuck to Korean…

I do have to admit that their English is better than Rain or Se7en & a lot of other artists. You can somewhat understand it. But it’s not good enough! Plus all the words are just simple words that anyone can say. Even my 2-year-old cousin can say those words! LOL. As much as I love Big Bang (& I really do), I don’t think they can even carry on a conversation .. not just yet anyways.

Are you a non-native korean trying to break into the korean music industry? If not then nobody really would care. These guys are trying to make a name for themselves internationally and doing it in english which isn’t their native language, sure it’s a brave move, and also a careless one.
Jan 09, 2008 - 02:03 PM
an idiot move that is.
Jan 13, 2008 - 01:34 AM
hmm…if they wanted to test the waters so badly then they should have released a japanese album with one or two korean and english songs in it. or singles if they want. that way they would know which one that the japanese would respond the strongest to. but i can’t really say it was a really BAD move to make an all english album but it certainly wasn’t a good one.

With Rain and Se7en trying to break into the US market, why isn’t Big Bang? They sound pretty good and the American public (I hate to say it) is hungry for another boy band.

I love the song <3 and I loved the video but the girls were unnecessary :\ Big Bang are hot enough themselves…they don’t need girls.
