1998. They enjoyed massive success alongside the likes of Sechs Kies, Baby Vox, Fin. K.L., H.O.T. and S.E.S., but while the other bands have since disbanded, Shinhwa still continue to release albums with high sales. Shinhwa is the Korean word for myth or legend. Notable for being the longest-running boy-band in South Korea, the group has released nine studio albums (eight full Korean albums and one full Japanese album), one Greatest hits album, four compilation albums, and four singles (three Korean singles and one Japanese single).

Initially formed under SM Entertainment, they signed a new contract with a new record label, Good Entertainment in July 2003. While still under Good Entertainment as Shinhwa, each of the members (excluding member Shin Hye Sung) have all left the entertainment to start their own to concetrate on their solo activities, from acting to going solo. Aside from singing and performing as a group and individuals as well as acting, the members of Shinhwa are also mentors to the Korean boy band Battle.

Shinhwa is also well-known outside the Korean border, having one of the largest active fan clubs throughout Korea and Asia, suitably named "Shinhwa Changjo" (ì‹ í™”ì°½ì¡° meaning to create legend) with over sixty thousand "official" fans alone, and even more "unofficial" fans. While known best in Asia, they have also performed in different countries of the world, including the United States, Australia, China, Taiwan, North Korea (though their performance was not well-received), Singapore, and Japan.
