Wonder Girls Disrespected in America?

Photos of the Wonder Girls signing autographs for a fan in America have recently made their way into Korean cyberspace, making Korean Wonderfuls very angry.

The photos which were uploaded on the 18th of last month (August), were taken after the Wonder Girls had a fan signing event after performing in the Jonas Brothers concert. The photos made Korean Wonderfuls really angry which showed Sohee and Yubin, reaching over the table to sign on a worn sneaker of a fan who had placed it on the table. They felt that this was a mark of disrespect to the Wonder Girls.

Fans chided this particular American fan saying that even though the Wonder Girls weren't that famous yet in America, they shouldn't be subjected to this sort of humilation. Another felt that the Wonder Girls shouldn't have signed for this fan in this manner in the first place. Many fans felt really sorry for the Wonder Girls and sincerely hope that the Wonder Girls will soon gain a foothold in America with their songs.

i dont think its like that though…what if that kid is a skater and just want to flaunt her/his wonder girls signed shoes…or maybe her/his foot stinks and it would be more embarrassing..PEACE

janne5000's avatar

Even though its not meant to disrespect the girls,
i think its kinda wrong for that fan to do that.
he/she may just wanted their autograph ..
but in the shoe ? come on now ...
at least get like an unused, clean shoe !

Yunna's avatar

yikes! O__O

nikititan's avatar

heh?? i don’t get it…what’s “disrespectful”?? the fact the they had to bend over to sign it or becoz it was a shoe??

ayayay22's avatar

such a kid =_=’’

PeaChic's avatar

yes, kind of disrespectful. ( geez, ppl…).....but in my opinion they should let it be. enough of that fan stress >.<

KayleeRivera's avatar

Gossh, not trying to be rude or anything but that IS kinda normal here in americaaa & canadaa, ...

nah not that uncommon

windstar!~'s avatar

Gimme a chainsaw, gotta cut off that leg for educational purposes. If you have recommendations for another tool that would make it messier all the merrier.

That is all.

OneDay's avatar

i just think its weird for someone to get an autograph on his/her shoe. smile) though i think its just a misundertsnading since koreans and americans do have a very diverse culture? lol wondergirls fighting!

redplasticbags's avatar

What….Shouldn’t the fans at least take off their shoes?

chunky's avatar

give me a friggen break!!

Akira Heartnet's avatar

That is so wrong!! They need to learn how 2 respect others…@17 is right..at least take off the shoes..

azalea's avatar

i don’t know but in my view, it’s not disrespectful to make someone signed in a pair of shoes…. what’s not right is that person didn’t took off his/her shoes so the girls can sign there properly.

theana93's avatar

LOL it’s okay for me! i mean, enough of af :(

agree with #7~~

onewsangtae's avatar

it looks really disrespectful
but then if u look at it from another point of view..
in america,, manners aren’t as strict as korea..
so it’s kind of different for them
and aren’t their fans elementary school kids/younger generation?
man.. it won’t hurt to atleast take of your shoes..
not to mention they r.. slipons..

Daikirai's avatar

Uh.. I was gonna say.. why didn’t they just take their shoes off first?  I don’t like how they made WG sign their shoes while it was still on.

But.. Americans are different.. they.. get autographs on their shoes.. >_> hahahhaha.
I’d rather have it on a poster.

泰比's avatar

Given that the fans were probably immature little children (not a fan of those brothers) they should know better than to put a shoe on a table much less ask for someone to sign their dirty little shoes.

gloW's avatar

i think it’s normal for american kids
i’m sure the girls fine with that..
well they have to adapt US culture

allNice's avatar

THIS IS THE REASON WHY Wonder Girls SHOULD COME BACK!

The cultures are just way different…I’m not sure whether that person is really disrespecting..but signing a shoe? Well, yes it’s normal for Americans but Korean Wonderfuls would take it as disrespectful.

I’m so sad. I miss them!

rock n roll queen's avatar

i dont think they wanted to offense them ....

Crazy4JaeJoong's avatar

whats the big deal O_o

itsjustme's avatar

yeah i think thats normal in america..no biggie IMO. if WG wants to break into the US market then they have to understand fan culture there.

no avatar

OH NO! THEY SIGNED SHOES. IT’S THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD.

I think the fan would have been a bit embarrassed if they took off their shoe before having the girls sign them… Like… what if they had stinky feet… That would have been more disrespectful.

no avatar

Eh, I think the only screwy thing with this is just that the guy/gal didn’t remove his/her shoe, so the WG had to literally autograph the shoe at his/her feet.

And, well, it’s kind of gross that the shoe looks well-worn.

But hey, it’s just a cultural thing. Not everyone is taught that this can be considered rude behaviour. Albeit, I find it a rather inconsiderate gesture.

Hopefully these sorts of “fans” are a minority for all celebrities. smile

xion20's avatar

it’s pretty normal for people like them…it isn’t really a big deal there

Neshia's avatar

I don’t think it was meant to be ‘disrespectful’ I mean, it’s pretty normal in America, maybe not in Korea though, so they just probably got the wrong impression.
Lol, I would have gotten my shoe sighed, but of course I would have taken the shoe off, then never worn in again, hahaha, but then again, that’s also my opinion. : P

Fanoo's avatar

@20: True, i don’t see what’s wrong in signing shoes. I mean : there are so many ppl who want celebrities to sign boobs or butts. It’s kinda common actually.
It’s just the fact that the person hasn’t taken off his/her shoes that is kinda rude…

no avatar

ok….. i don’t really see how that is disrespectful, but they could’ve taken their shoe off i guess… I think it’s more disrespectful that netizens will jump all over nothing just to stir up some drama though.

RahRah's avatar

It’s pretty normal here for fans to get their shoe signed by their favorite artist. In fact my friend just got his signed 2 weeks ago with a guy from his favorite band. It’s not really disrespect at all. It just a thing that people tend to do from time to time. Like people getting their clothes signed or hey I’ve heard of people getting their own body signed. Also the fan could have been not thinking properly at the time or they just didn’t think it offensive to not take off their shoe.

no avatar

yah pretty disrespectfull for us wg fans….but signing is signing i think wg didnt see it disrespectful^^

jullayye's avatar

omgawd, thats really disrespectful to me. T.T

kimmey_09's avatar

the fan should have at least worn a clean pair!
Even though his intention wasn’t to disrespect Wondergirls, he should have at least thought of how comfortable the Wondergirls will feel…

DivineComedy's avatar

wtf?
What if the fan wanted to show off their favorite signed sneakers to everyone?
I’m assuming it could be their favorite since they’re pretty worn.
There’s nothing wrong with signing a shoe! Heck, I’d love to get my shoe signed by Yunho but I’m pretty sure the Korean netizens would hunt me down for that O.O
Besides, it’s America! Way different than Korea…

PrickaX's avatar

Now we need those patriotic korean netizens to launch an attack on that disrespectful fan!!!

LOL, jk. But seriously, doesn’t this fan have any manner at all?!!!! WGs were being way too nice!!

sinnerinheaven's avatar

wtf? i don´t think is disrespectful
i would have been if that fan would have asked to
put it on her ass instead of her shoe

i wonder if those fans are gonna go apeshit on that poor fan girl
who knows with what kind of petition they will come up with

Hideto16's avatar

OMG!! COME ON! that is so common!! that person probably wasn’t planning on seeing the Wonder Girls so they didn’t have anything for them to sign!! come on guys don’t we do that all the time!!? make celebs sign shirts, SHOES, jeans, guitars, swords(lol), hats, butts(lord forbid) and stomachs!!?

marikit's avatar

TBH, I don’t see anything disrespectful. That’s kinda normal—well maybe not in Korea anyway; and they’re in America so… Anyway, I don’t see what’s the fuss about. There are faaaaaaaaar more rude and disturbing acts than that. If the fan asked the girls to sign their b*tt or something, things might be different. It’s just that there are people bound to act rude and whatevs, no matter which country they came from.  Just my two cents. ^^
