What’s your Blood Type?
In Korea, asking someone about their blood type is as common as asking someone what their hobbies or preferences are. Koreans (and East Asians in general) believe that blood type has a correlation to one’s personality, even though it hasn’t been scientifically proven. The movie “My Boyfriend is Type B†(starring Han Ji Hye and Lee Dong Gun) is one manifestation of this; also, if you’ve played video games, you might’ve noticed that characters usually have their blood types included in the profile.
Though this blood type thing sounds like a lot of hoopla, East Asians, particularly Koreans and Japanese, take it pretty seriously, especially because there are certain beliefs (for example, men with blood type B are the worst, while people with blood type AB are either psychopaths or geniuses). There have been reports of celebrities even faking their blood type on their profiles, the way they would with their heights or weights, just to seem more desirable to their fans. So what are the characteristics attributed to each blood type?
Type A
U-know Yunho of DBSK/TVXQ/Tonhoshiki (and the list can go on and on…) has blood type A. People with this blood type are earnest, creative, sensible, but at the same time, fastidious and too earnest. As the leader of arguably the most popular boy band in Korea, Yunho probably has to have all those traits in order to manage the members. Many other examples of celebrities with blood type A are group leaders; G-Dragon of Big Bang, Sun Ye of Wondergirls, Lee Teuk of Super Junior and Jong Hun of F.T. Island.
Type B
T.O.P. of Big Bang is a celebrity example of someone with blood type B. People with this blood type are wild, active and they pursue things (i.e. they’re doers), but they’re also selfish and irresponsible. I don’t know how true that is; all I know is that T.O.P. is sizzling hot and even if he’s a type B (supposedly the worst type of guy), I wouldn’t mind. Other examples include Jessica and Yoona from Girls’ Generation, Si Won from Super Junior and Junsu and Chang Min from DBSK.
Type AB
Oddly, Yeeun, Sunmi and Sohee of the Wonder Girls all have this blood type. Even though type AB is considered the rarest, the proportion of this blood type is much higher in Korea than in the West. Anyway, people with type AB blood are cool, controlled and rational, but also critical and indecisive. Other examples are Tae Yang from Big Bang, Hyo Yeon from Girls Generation, Gyuri from KARA and Heechul and Yesung from Super Junior.
Type O
Kim Tae Hee is an example of type O; people in this blood type group are agreeable, sociable and optimistic, but also vain and rude. A couple of years back there was a slight anti-Kim Tae Hee movement where anti-fans said she had “gong-ju byeongâ€, which literally means “princess sickness†and describes someone who is excessively vain. Well, if you’re that gorgeous, wouldn’t you want to stare into the mirror all the time too? Other examples of celebrities with the most common blood type in the world are Young Saeng, Jung Min and Hyung Joon of SS501, Ryeo Wook, Eun Hyuk, Shin Dong, Kang In and Han Kyung of Super Junior (honestly, I think you can tell how “rare†a blood type is just by counting how many members of Suju have the bloodtype), Soo Young and Tae Yeon of Girls’ Generation and JaeJoong and Micky of DBSK.
