Uhm Jung Hwa KPOP Korean Music

Singer/actress/model/lingerie designer/entrepreneur Uhm Jung-Hwa, who recently released her 100000000000th album “D.I.S.C.O.”, revealed on SBS’s “Ya Shim Man Man” that her age has made her ponder on whether she should continue becoming a dance singer.

Ms. Uhm shed tears as she admitted, “After my previous album, I took a short break. During that time, I thought hard about how an aging female singer should do her music. I felt that I shouldn’t release any more albums.” She also said, “I was finding my place as an actress, and the people around me said ‘You don’t need to release any more music’. When I heard that, though, I felt so bad.”

Fortunately (or unfortunately), Uhm Jung-Hwa decided that she still can’t give up her singing career. “Although a music career makes me really busy, I feel very passionate about it and I can’t forget the love that I received from my fans. Also, after hearing my old songs, I missed taking the stage.”

Ms. Hyorish was mentioned by the “seasoned” performer as well: Lee Hyori is 30 now, but everyone’s already giving her pressure due to her age.” She also said a bunch of other stuff about how lonely she was while doing music (didn’t she say she couldn’t forget the love from her fans?), but this interview’s just too long so I’ll cut right here.

I can see why Uhm Jung-Hwa feels kind of insecure; after all, she’s competing against pedophile-pleasers like the Wonder Girls and Girls’ Generation. And doesn’t Kara have two new members who are like, 14? As much as I don’t like “D.I.S.C.O.”, I do admire the woman for staying this long in the music industry, considering she hasn’t exactly had a huge chart-topping hit. She won an acting award before for her performance in some movie I can’t remember, so it’s pretty brave of her to not pursue acting full-time and still continue dishing out electro-techno-dance songs. And well, considering that she’s already 38 (in Korean age), I think she looks pretty good (once again, considering her age, okay?). Or maybe she’s had some generous helpings of Korea’s pride, the plastic surgery industry.

I find it really sad how older Singers are forced to feel that their too old to sing rather than encouraged. Looks at Madonna, she mainly reciev’s praise for she does. Lee Hyori is no way old (i think), at least she doesn’t look it.

don’t think she’s too old for singing even though she’s competing with singers that are mostly in their teens…idk, that’s my opinion

she at least has options…still hot at her age…maybe she can act and contribute to the soundtrack…a sucessful movie/drama can really help sell her music…

but i imagine her albums must still do well, still profitable at the very least

She isn’t too old for music in general; but she’s getting a little old for mainstream kpop… Props to her for continuing, but she should seriously relinquish the spotlight, or all those new groups will start turning up at the corner late at night. LOL!

never listened to her music but she’s not too old to sing..its just that the kpop industry keeps spitting out teenyboppers when they aren’t even out of puberty yet. hyori’s much hotter than alot of her younger peers and she exudes real sexiness compared to the cute snsd members..like ftts who are more mature..i kinda wish the industry had more 20+ artists..

She’s not that old, but I’m sure she got lots of work done on her face, she doesn’t even resemble her brother anymore.

your 40 year old plastic a$$ is no match for
taeyeon’s cuteness

@ullzangmania

lol I can give you a handful of 40+ female artists that would own everyone on that list…Tina Turner, Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, and the list goes oooooooooooooooooooooon. Sad how kpop has an age limit for its musicians…and only picking the no-talented plasticifed (lol that’s not even a word but who cares) teenagers to be famous.

D.I.S.C.O. was a pretty catchy song. While I don’t really know much of her music, I do like her acting.
It’s too bad artists get picked on for being 30 or 40 in the entertainment business there. That’s not old at all.

nope, i never said anything about me thinking SNSD was the new face of industry
and my views about this artist has nothing to do with any of you
so shove YOUR retarded comments up yours where it’ll give you pleasure

anyway, i wasn’t being serious (even those with half a wit would realize that, ne?)

i liked D.I.S.C.O and uhm jung hwa IS really established in the k pop industry, so she should keep going on UNTIL she really…well ages out of it.

Korean entertainment has to be one of the most discriminating industries there is! It’s so blatant yet endured, so wrong yet allowed!

I am not a fan of this woman but why should age be an issue of her making music? Just because everyone else walking around has yet to hit puberty but act all grown?

Pathetic.

I think if you still sound good, look good, & feel good then do the damn thing & finish what you started when you’re ready. Take criticism constructivley & stop ‘em dead. If you still got it & can do it then age ain’t nothin but a number!

She shouldn’t feel discouraged. I liked D.I.S.C.O a lot. I liked her whole mini album in fact lol It’s really a shame that there are more young people in K-pop than older people these days. When someone like Hyori (who’s only 30) is getting nervous, then something’s wrong with this picture. The K-pop industry is so fickle, but I don’t think UJH nor Hyori have much to worry about for now.

D.I.S.C.O is quite catchy but i like Party Ft GD more cos my hubby is in there…kekeke raspberry
i hope she continues doin her stuff n not get discourage by de competition with those pedophile-pleasers…

@ ullzzangmania

then wtf are you doing comparing SNSD members to Um Jung Hwa for in an article that doesn’t even MENTION SNSD? you simply listed the SNSD girls in the context that they beat out um jung hwa in sexiness, hotness, “adorable-ness” and whatever else, like it was relevant in any fucking way.

you act as though there’s a limited amount of space in the kpop world and UJH continuing to sing is some kind of eyesore. and you know what? you can think that way if you like, as I don’t really care about UJH, but mentioning SNSD just cause you CAN in an article that doesn’t even concern them is a little stupid (okay, really stupid).

It’s a known fact that had a ton done. So what? She wasn’t attractive at all before she entered the music business so I think it was the industry that forced that on her. Probably nowadays the reason she keeps getting work done to fit into images she wants. She’s giving herself to the industry, basically.

I respect her deeply. Madonna is getting quite some flack for her age, too but i think it’s ridiculous. She’s just doing what she can. No little girl the k-pop industry today can match UJH’s charisma.

What are these people talking about!?! 40 in Korea must be like 60 or something!  She looks beautiful for her age! She can compete with Hyori ANY DAY! In America, Janet Jackson is 40 and still performing (and looks good too!) And Madonna is like figgen 50 and even though she looks pretty old, she’s still got it! People need to shut up and let these people do their thing for as long as they are able!
