TVXQ Tops Oricon Weekly For the Fifth Time

TVXQ DBSK Tohoshinki

TVXQ has gone back to Japan again after just a few months of activities in their native Korea, and as soon as their plane landed, their newest single Bolero landed on the No.1 spot on the Oricon chart for the fifth time.

Personally, this is getting less exciting each time, as they just keep on breaking their own records. What is the fun in competing with themselves? As I understand it, the release date of their next single will coincide with that of Johnny's Entertainment pretty boy powerhouse KAT-TUN. Now that's some real competition to look forward to.

TVXQ has proven themselves as the indisputable top dog in Korea, and the No.1 foreign group in Japan, but will they stand a chance against their Japanese counter-part?

while I agree that DBSK sings better than Kat-tun…but the big Johnny has been owning Japan since the 80s…so…sorry DBSK, I don’t think so. But yeah, of course Arashi now owns everyone! Buwahaahahaha

Don’t know who Kat Tun is but DBSK is the sh*t. It doesn’t matter if they beat them or not because the JE boys are on their home turf and thus have an clear advantage. We should be happy that DBSK, a foreign boy band can even make a dent against them. Like someone said earliar, it would be the same story if Kat Tun went to Korea against DBSK.

A lot of haters who are getting BORED of them winning are obviously not their real fans and should go find another kpop group to worship for 2 seconds before they eventually turn their backs on them too. It’s called LOYALTY, you haters should really look it up.

Continue to work hard! Good luck!

and I like DBSK more than KAT-TUN, only I loved Signal and Peak by KAT-TUN, but DBSK has more talent.

Can’t wait to see how this turns out wink!

OOOH,

I love KAT-TUN before i like DBSK
So i’ll be rooting for KAT-TUN, I love my Johnny Entertainment boys.
Also it may be hard for them since KAT-TUN is a home base for them and have been popular before DBSK.

WOOT for the Oricon #1 again!
No matter how many times DBSK gets to the top I will always be pleasantly surprised since, Japan is the 2nd largest economy in world…getting #1 there says a lot about a group…especially if they are foreign.
KAT-TUN vs. THSK….uhmm…yeah KAT-TUN will win, only because they are Johnny’s and really, even though I hate to admit it, incredibly more popular than THSK. (Even if KAT-TUN are terrible singers.)

@100: Arashi is in another different level. They are the face of JE now.

Go DBSK (again), proof it honey. For someone who says Kat-tun concert are amazing definetely haven’t seen any DBSK concert. I always hesitate to see any JE concert (except Arashi) because they always bring the whole company trainee to the show. It likes 100 people dancing at the same time.

O.O i wanna see that!!

who is gonna win?? i like KATTUN n i like TVXQ too ...

Good for them, but they need to do more stuff in Korea!

It’s obvious who’s gonna win but im still rooting for Tohoshinki. It’s good that they arent playing it safe anymore. Now we can see what Tohoshinki is really made of.

dbsk may have a lot of korean fans..but it’s not like cassie is going to go to extremes just to get their japanese singles…they rather spend their money on albums anyways…so dbsk has to rely on bigeast/international fans for support…i hard that their fanclub is getting bigger in japan so hopefully that’ll help them get at least no. 2. although their seems to be other competition besides kattun…i hope bigeast pulls through…
toho-fighting!!~

Congrats to the boys. Although I prefer JE boys to be acting… this is going to be interesting.

nice job dbsk. but they can NEVER beat kat-tun

kaypop's avatar

how much did they sell?

And are they seriously going against KAT-TUN? lmao there goes their #1 streak but they might get more attention for it too

kaypop's avatar

Did someone also say greeeen is releasing a single on that day too? if so, they would be the main competition against kat-tun not dbsk.. but really there is no competition.

JE honestly makes much better entertainers on the whole compared to kpop boy groups. They’re much more organized and they really know how to market the best. & really in Japan they dominate since SMAP times.

thaimaster's avatar

wow when did kat-tun come out 2006? and they are already better than dbsk.

i mean 2001 correct me if im wrong i cant remember.

ah….hey! your competition is your own self….unless they don’t compete with themselves they can’t compete with other artists…
Ah!!!! Head on with KAT-TUN…why JE’s are popular? Because they’ve been there, it doesn’t even matter if they’re good or not…
anyway, it’s just excitement for Big East…AND it will only bring Tohoshinki’s sales up…
but…I’m excited…
I love you Kame…I really do…please believe it…but….Tohoshinki is more important to me…hahahah…

@kaypop

Bolero sold around 89K for the first week. It’s a GREAT improvement from their previous singles (other than the Summer Dream single which was THSK’s only single to reach 100K in the first week), but when compared to KAT-TUN’s 100K+ sells on the first day… it’s not much. And when you compare them to Arashi, who usually sells 300K+ on the first day, THSK really has a long way to go before they reach the top.

Not to mention that ravex’s debut album is dropping on the same day, which features BoA, Namie Amuro, THSK, and other popular singers. Non-THSK fans will probably buy the ravex album instead of the THSK single since, well, it has all the big and popular names listed.

THSK will probably end up with #3, #2 at best, for the Oricon Weekly for their next single (which, btw, is named “Survivor.”) BigEast and international fans will more than likely preorder and buy, but most of Cass isn’t going to, what with THSK’s 4th album coming out the next week (and on LJ, it’s currently being discussed if it’s actually “The Secret Cord,” “The Secret Chord,” or “The Secret Code.” Typos seem to be abounding on this album’s name :|)

They seem like guys, good for them. (even though I´m not really a fan of the music they make)

I suggest avex waits until THSK tops the chart everyday (at least for the first week) then try to compete to measure strength.  THSK isn’t there yet for this kind of hopeless battle.

I’m really excited for their competition! It’s nice seeing THSK’s name next to KAT-TUN or vice versa.

I’m a huge huge fan of THSK that I buy their original stuff but I also apreciate KAT-TUN’s talent of entertaining esp with their concerts, dramas, etc.

Arashi’s songs are also really good. They give a different feeling to me as well as NEWS’.

BUT OMGGGG.. TVXQ is just LOVEEEEEE….
Goodluck minna!

..All smart TVXQ fans know KATTUN will be number 1. I mean, isn’t JE the reason why TVXQ has NEVER been able to perform in Music Station (which I think is one of the biggest stages to perform or something). I think in KATTUN, the only person who actually has a REAL voice, passable looks and a passable dacing is Bakanishi.

Anyway, I recently read that White XMas was released in S.K. which is weird since JE is STRICTLY Japan. So, I think Johnny should think things over since JE=Japan, SM=S.K. and the fact TVXQ has the most fans. A Korean friend of mine recently said that the KATTUN S.K. release really sold low.

I think all you people who keep on talking about THSK not being able to perform on Music Station are giving Music Station too much cred…the ratings for the show aren’t that high and music shows in Japan aren’t regarded as highly as they are in Korea. Stop trying to use Korean standards in Japan, they are 2 different countries with 2 very different entertainment industries.

@108 yep that is why I think Compite against KAT-TUN is better than compite against ARASHI, cause ARASHI is like the top in sales from JE
