TVXQ “Stand By You” debuts at number 2, big sales

TVXQ DBSK Stand By You

TVXQ / DBSK / Tohoshinki's newest Japanese single, "Stand By You" debuted at number 2 on the Oricon Daily Singles chart today with a sales figure of a whopping 94,838 units! Arashi was the only one who beat them by releasing "Everything," Arashi had a sales figure of 135,053 units! There was a big dropoff after these two heavyweights as 3rd place "C-ute" only achieved a sales figure of 13,446 units.

Even though TVXQ didn't come in first, they should be extremely excited. You have to keep in mind that their previous releases had no where near 100,000 sales for the first day. Their previous release, "Share The World" had around 58,000 sales on their first day and around 98,000 for the first week. This new single almost achieved the previous weekly figure in a day. Congratulations and hope for continued success for TVXQ in Japan. Thanks to Kathy Chester and ray for the tips.

Wow, that’s very low sales for Arashi, I’m really shocked by this. I think the fans are waiting for the best album coming out next month. Well, at least Arashi is #1 on the Monthly chart with 587,734 units sold for Ashita no kioku/Crazy Moon.

the hype is because arashi is celebrating their 10th anniversary. who knows what will happen in their 11th or so years. people just want to be a part of the hype. to be fair stand by u is not a tie-in too but i admit it sold this much because of their dome debut. tohoshinki is only fledgling compared to arashi so it’s best if we don’t compare

Arashi’s plunging down real hard with their first day sales. Not so surprising, since this single is not really heavily promoted like the other last singles - they were double releases, with two songs being used for different things, and the two songs both have their own video clips. Though, with this figure, it’s not impossible for them to break the 400k mark like they did with ‘Beautiful Days’ single last year.

TVXQ on the other hand, have a tendency of dropping A LOT on the 2nd day. I hope they stay on longer. Today’s sale was so good, I was shocked for a bit before the fact settled in with a smile.

But ngeh, I’m not digging both of their songs this time around. Everything has got to be one of Arashi’s weakest single, and Stand by U sounds a bit too draggy. But despite all that, I hope they stop making TVXQ up against Arashi. Share the World was released on the same day as Arashi’s Ashita no Kioku too. And TVXQ’s upcoming 3season (special set) is gonna be released on the same day as Arashi’s greatest best album too. Sigh.

i think it is a good think for DBSk to be same day with arashi.. i mean thsk got name even tho they are not big as arashi or any others JE boys, Arashi is one of major group only in JAPAN but DBSK is more than that.. They are popular outside their own turf name one country is asia that doesnt know DBSK, they are huge no matter where they are. Thailand,Malaysia,Philippine,Japan, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Peru, all over asia.. but then never once THSK become so ungrateful , they are always humble . If Thsk are japanese , i dont know how many album will be sold.

wished it would have been number 1!!!! lol ahahah the song is soo good i loved it….and the meaning of it adn the lyrics love them all soo much

@ Hyde => well, that’s that LOL bear in mind that tohoshinki debuted (properly) in japan like what, 2 years ago ? of course tokyo dome means so much for them esp since not EVERYONE, even japanese artists can have a concert there. i mean, comparing arashi and thsk isn’t even “right” in the first place =) JE’s groups are practically like all the group idols in Kpop, their popularity is uncomparable BUT i love how in japan, dbsk is treated like a REAL artist and A LOT of people (fans and celebrities alike) appreciate their talents. they don’t even need to go telling people, “here we are, we’re real artists you know ?” and if you don’t notice, this recent sale is HUGE compared to their previous sales and i believe they’ll only go UP from now on xD

btw, GACKT <3

Just ignore those comment from arashi ‘s fan which is i am so doubt if they are actually arashi ‘s fan or big bang ‘s fan which is some of it i always saw at BB’s articles..better change your name before claiming to be Arashi’s fan. Hate to say this because it would be a fan war, but sorry your BB single went down to 17th . There is always next time, so VIP stop comparing Arashi with DBSK and claim to be arashi’s fan to bash us..

@124 well said.. only ignorant would like to compare Arashi who debut like 10 yrs ago with DBSK who are foreigner and still learning japanese ‘s vocabulary. But it is an honor to be compare with such big name , JE now official aware that THSK is dangerousssssssssssssss

no avatar

@105, i’m not comparing. i just stated my opinion about why everything is lower than their previous ones. that’s all. i’m not worried about arashi’s upcoming years. johnnys always have the tendency to stay active even when they already reach retirement time. i don’t care much about popularity either. after almost two decades following j-ent, idols and talents come and go, but those johnnys are always stay around. that’s what i always see. after certain point, they normally started to run for their own desire and dream, for something they always want to do, no matter sometimes how weird and boring those things can be, their loyal fans will always support them - something that i think quite magical about them, to hold such amount of loyal fans, who’re faithfully following them even after 10, 15 or even 20 years. as a loyal fan of loudness for so long, i do admire something like that. ^^

yay! they deserve it,
but the deserve better!
dbsk, we miss you guys!

@124, i’m not comparing at all. i am a toho fan. i buy their singles and went to their concert. i even haven’t said anything bad about toho in my comment.

it’s sad how people easily jump into conclusion without actually understand what others are trying to say. but well, if my comment before gives people such judgment, then it’s my fault for failing to get my point through. i’m sorry if people understand it that way.

putting the oddly low single sales for arashi to aside, congratulations thsk!!! That is a LARGE jump in sales from the previous one, but that is to be expected, seeing how heavily this single was promoted. As always, there is only going up from here! Their popularity may not be anywhere near J-ent, but I love their hardwork and stubborness more than any popularity contest.

Japanese rankings chart, ORICON, revealed the “First half of 2009 Sales Ranking” 30 June. On this sales ranking chart, Tohoshinki ranked #8, bringing in ¥2,500,000,000 (KRW$33,000,000,000). In first place is their nationally renowned group EXILE, with sales of ¥5,400,000,000, and second place goes to Arashi with sales of ¥4,400,000,000. SMAP and Koda Kumi follow Tohoshinki closely, ranking ninth and tenth place respectively. As can be seen, Tohoshinki’s impact and status has reached that of the A-list standard. The sales ranking this time only included the sales of albums, singles and DVDs released this year. If the profits included the sales they made through concerts and advertisement deals, Tohoshinki’s sales results would be even more spectacular. Their national tour will come to an end on the 4th and 5th July, at the Tokyo Dome. Currently, it is difficult to obtain tickets, and ticket prices through bidding, have soared above ¥1,000,000; proof of their indisputable popularity. With regards to rumours of Tohoshinki disbanding: On 26th & 27th June, they wrapped up their 3rd Asia Tour in Bangkok, but they will still have concert performances in July and August in Japan. A staff from their management company said, “Up until the end of the year, their performance schedules are extremely tight, and the members think that the rumours of disbanding are ridiculous. Tohoshinki has climbed the ranks of J-pop singers, from the lowest ranks to what they are today, a recognised J-pop group. The results of the ranking this time, also holds a lot of meaning to them.” Source: [将爱myyunho.com] Translation credits: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) Shared by: [heyjj + iscreamshinki.net] DO NOT REMOVE/ADD ON CREDITS

@134. oh, so the tokyo dome part. when writing that, my mind was simply like, x-japan is not aiming for tokyo dome and kokuritsu anymore, they’re aiming for the bird nest. it’s not something i intended, like belittling toho or something. i know how much toho is happy to perform in tokyo dome just like how arashi is happy to perform in kokuritsu just like how yoshiki will be happy if he managed to perform in bird nest. so yeah, it’s my wrong there for writing like that. thank you for pointing it out.

@Hyde… I can understand your comments since it’s so informative unlike comment no.44… At least we can learn that after Tokyo Dome, there are still other things that we can dream of… like that Kokuritsu thing… and I also wish that THSK can be like that some JE artistes who can stay active even after 10, 15, or 20 years =)

To be honest, a lot of the JE acts aren’t really “popular” with the general public. With the exception of SMAP and Arashi (and maybe some other older acts), they tend to have a group of hardcore fans (wotas) who would buy multiple copies of each single. However, albums are much more expensive, so most would buy less copies and hence the low album sales and high single sales JE acts have. SMAP and Arashi have gained casual listeners whereas the other currently active Johnnys simply do not appeal to the public.
KAT-TUN’s popularity has died down a lot since debut, it’s reflected on their decreasing album/single sales. Their hardcore fans will attend their concert multiple times, especially with the different “themes” going on.

But yeah, don’t know why I wrote all that, but the people at 2ch are comparing Toho and Arashi like mad XD

@134: Yes, I also felt that way when Hyde write that, even though it’s not intended. But it’s ok anyway.  ^^

Congratulations to DBSK for having 90000+ in their first day.
I hope their sweat and tears are worth it by going to Tokyo Dome.
I will always support the boys no matter what even though their popularity is nowhere as near as JE boys. smile
