TVXQ banned in Japan?

TVXQ KPOP Korean Music

According to S-San's Blog (a Japanese staff member for TVXQ/Tohoshinki/DBSK) the rumor that TVXQ has been blocked from Music Station was confirmed. On his blog he wondered why TVXQ was on Music Station's #1 list this week, yet weren't invited to perform. Music Station is a highly popular music show in Japan, similar to MTV's TRL here in the states.

Rumors and conspiracy theories were created when TVXQ received many #1's on both the Oricon Daily and Weekly charts, yet weren't invited to the Music Station show. Almost every other artist who were in the top 10 let alone the artists who've reached #1 were invited to perform. Many people believe the reason for this is because Johnny's Entertainment has a secret pact with Music Station. Some people think that TVXQ poses a threat to Johnny's therefore the non-invites.

This is an unfortunate situation, but at the same time if the situations were reversed - I could see Korea doing the same thing to a Japanese artist. (thanks to Melissa & Sandra for the tip)

@leelee: i’m pretty sure SM banned JTL from performing on some shows. i can’t quite remember because it’s been a while, but there was some rumors about shady business when tony was supposed to host some show but was replaced.

iciviuja's avatar

I knew that it has something to do with the Johnnys. No matter how i think about it, if it’s about MS then Johnny’s name will come up. And i kinda get the feeling that JEnt in Japan = SMEnt in Korea. Popularity wise, especially.

Well, this is my first time getting wind of this. I honestly don’t think it matters much that one show won’t let them perform. After all, they’re so freaking popular all over Asia right now (not to mention other parts of the world), it really doesn’t mean much.

WOOOOW!
this is serious stuff. i know music station is as good as trl and blabla
even trl allow foreign artists to perform
music is universal, and thats what makes it extra special
so, it doesnt matter who sings it, as long as it is good, heck, why not?
in this case, its obvious that music station/johnny’s ent being biased
or maybe theyre just too scared of TVXQ
since um, they conquer the oricon charts these past few month?
if this continues, i dun think music station can be considered as one of the top anymore
but im not worried about TVXQ..
i mean, COME ONN! theyve worked soo hard in building their career in japan
i dun think they will let any music station/johnny’s ent to ruin it any bit
TVXQ will continue their success, and guess what.. they dun need music station to promote them
they have their very own aura that no one can resist ;D
besides, music station is not as good nowadays either, the performers =.=’
no wonder when TVXQ n koda kumi performed together, using maybe koda’s ticket..
then, before u know it, TVXQ’s gone .. they dont even get to be interviewed..
its a sad thing.. especially to the music industry..
ohwell, we just have to wait n see the outcome of this (:

theres like a request form at MS, so i guess if 19,000 Bigeast fill that up…MAYBE. that will make them RECONSIDER ^^;
anyways, if you are johnny of course you’ll do the exact same thing.
protect your babies.
TOHO can do it even without that one show.^^
all they need to do is to ACTUALLY SING and DANCE =___=
unlike *cough* yeah.

Oh no, Music Station isn’t fair just because TVXQ are from Korea…
I think Johnny ent has conspiracy with Music Station. I think artist from Johnny has more chance to come although they don’t have album record sales

THIS IS NOT FAIR !!!

@soo: i am a kpop and jpop fan too (i adore K8 from JE) but no way do i think any of the JE bands are more talented than DBSK. DBSK pwns any of them in the singing and dancing talent, and they have as much stage presence as the JE bands. unless you are talking about the pyrotechnics and elaborate stage sets so common of JE concerts ~ which DBSK has no need of. but i agree that some of the JE bands (K8, arashi) and DBSK are equally charismatic.
However, I do not agree with you when you say that there are non-JE boybands that are bigger than DBSK at the moment. if you can just name me one. pls don’t bother naming w-inds or lead. w-inds is great, but they are selling alot less CDs than DBSK and is no longer in their league. and i will never consider EXILE as a boy band, their image, music and age are definitely not boyband.

loraborax3's avatar

wow thats pretty low of them. is johnny too scared of competition?

no avatar

i have to agree with this.
im really a huge fan of both kpop and jpop.
come to think of it music station really entertain JE talents
(NEWS,KAT-TUN,Arashi) but how come tvxq didnt even once had a guesting with them even though they top the oricon charts most of the time. johnny’s scared that there talents would be left aside if the dongbang boys would be there. even though i love yamapi. it’s really odd, and if it is true. how unreasonable of JE.

and push there talent in a good way to dance better and sing better

I don’t mind if they don’t get a shot at MS.  JE’s built their empire for a long time and they must have invested in these kinds of things. It’s their money.  I mean Avex can’t do that becaue Avex has their own stretegy and don’t want to invest money that much.  I’m glad enough that SM has a contract with Avex instead of JE.  It’s not only money that SM gains from TVXQ being in Japan, but also the boys gains experiences and credibility.  They pretty much ground quite some solid fanbase, in stead of quick boom and done like some other fanclubs used to bash them 2 years ago.  BTW SM is not like JE, because in korea the TV station has more power than the entertainment company. SM’s radio program always invite the currently famous artits, rivals or not doesn’t matter. The 1-sided rumors about SM are speculation.

I would just like to point out one thing - the biggest artists in Japan such as Ayumi Hamasaki, Koda Kumi, Namie Amuro, and even JE boyband ARASHI are all UNDER SM Entertainment in Korea (visit SM Ent’s website and go under JPOP). So would they really be promoted less? Or barred from shows? I am not so sure about it now.

Huh, great for them. I’m not surprised that Johnny’s Ent. is scared of this happening since DBSK is a Korean band and when a Korean band would continuously bust through Japan like that and the Japanese boybands aren’t as popular as them, of course they’d get nervous.

I’m not a fan of DBSK, but congrats to them actually for being a powerful group.

to the ones who said “you believe this crap?”, then your oblivious to J-pop. EVERYONE who watches/listens to J-pop knows that MS and JE has a secret pact between them. Boybands who arent from JE have either NEVER gone on MS or have gone on it like once in their whole career even if they did hit #1 with topping chart sales. All MS is good for is over promoting JE boys and supporting talentless idol groups. Oh and no1 said TVXQ is #1, but they did make history by being the first foreign artist to EVER get 3 #1 weeklys on oricon. Those who are backing up JE saying that this isnt true, stop being in denial cause this aint the first it happened and it aint the last. and the reason TVXQ is such a big deal is because this is about KPOP. so this is a first. =.=;

No wonder I didn’t see DBSK among the other guests on Music Station when they performed Last Angel with Koda Kumi. I only saw Koda and I wondered why DBSK wasn’t sitting next to her, considering she had said that it’s neither her song nor DBSK but that it belonged to both.

Now, Music Station is no longer to be no 1 music festival in Japan since they not call TVXQ in their SHOW.

Without MS, TVXQ will continue their success in ASIA with their talent and hardwork…

guys, as much as i love dbsk, there is perfectly no reason for all of you to be bashing JE-boys. Johnny-san maybe, but not the JE-boys. Some of them do have talents and they do work hard, in fact, I’m a huge fan of Kat-tun. Kat-tun does have some good songs, they are great performers, great actors, great dancers (i’ve seen a lil bit of popping and bboying from JE groups, they just have sucky choreographer)

Yes, it’s good that this rumour shows that Johnny-san recognizes the talent in dbsk, but i really hate it when a group of fangirls who worship a band (in this case DBSK) starts bashing/disrespecting other bands.
Anyway, i dont think dbsk needs to perform at MS to boost their popularity, they’re doing fine by just performing at other shows. And to someone who commented the japanese are pissed off koreans are dominating their chart, i just laughed at that, who do you think bought their CDs and make them no.1 on oricon chart?

~Loco_Roco~'s avatar

I agree w/ azumi. There’s no need to bash one group just to praise another. Btw I thought Exile was on MS once or twice. If so, how come they weren’t banned? They’re in their prime and all of their best albums this year are making #1. It has nothing to do with threats, people.

no avatar

I don’t really care; Music Station is just one show, and TVXQ isn’t exactly suffering from a lack of exposure in Japan.  They’ll do just fine.
Besides, if memory serves, it’s not as if TVXQ is the only boyband ever to be conspicuously absent from the show either.  It’s no secret that MS is one of the main programs to showcase Johnny’s artists whenever they have new releases, and those bands have consistently strong draws for ratings. If JE has a thing going with MS, well, that’s just smart business for both parties.

Azumi, you are right to say that people shouldn’t be bashing the artists for the actions Johnny-san takes….however, I would just like to point out that its not all fans here commenting. Many of us are not fans, we are just sharing our sentiment and shock. Usually, whenever a company makes a mistake - in this case its more a conspiracy - all the artists underneath that company are going to be affected and talked about, especially since it has to do WITH those said artists…its really quite sad though, because clearly the artists underneath JE didn’t do anything wrong.

I know all of you guys are pretty irked, but mind you, even though they do have three Oricon Weekly #1s, the numbers don’t really go beyond 80k…and that’s still medicore numbers for a Japanese hitmaker. BoA may have only a single oricon weekly ichiban, but mind you, before her current falling sales in japan, she had been selling singles not only by thousands or ten thousands…she went by hundred thousands or millions. (Listen to My Heart and Valenti hit the million mark). Now comparing it to DBSK current JPOP sales, it is quite undrstandable. Da Pump and W-inds sold half a million copies of their singles but MSta didn’t let them on either. The only way to let them enter MSta is by the power of Cassiopeia either making a huge-run petition, or sending bulks of mail (all at the same time) to the show’s PD.

Or, though this is not advisable, Cassiopeia and Bigeast pulls of an ELF and do a rally in front of TV Asahi to let the boys in. Now that would be news! XD Just kidding.

because MS don’t need DBSK
and Japan media industry don’t even care about them

could anyone tell me why DBSK still need to come to Japan this much??

no need to ‘ban’ them, i can say
they haven’t gone far enough in Japan yet!

and i’ve never seen any JE’s boys in any SM’s or Korean’s program too, no?

then what’s the matter????

no avatar

I think JE should have send their boy to dorama much than in Music cause They don’t have good voice and great dance. OH Johnny… WHY YOU SO SCARED ???

to MYC, JE boys not going to Korea’s show because they fear if they don’t have any talents to make people in Korea fallen in love with them and i see they only pretty boys who cannot do hardwork and only use Johnny’s powers to become famous . So, you are WRONG to think that DBSK not going far in JAPAN, It’s the FACT !!!!!!

GLORY TVXQ !!!

HEROine's avatar

MYC..Its not even about the numbers anymore.its about a foreign artist succeeding homegrown talents..Not many artist can garner such massive fanbase in a foreign country, all the more topping the charts. For the Japanese artists it can mean nothing but for the koreans and international fans.it means a lot. coz our boys are breaking down barriers and steadily establishing a name outside of their comfort zone. i dunow which planet are you living in to say that they still havent gone far enuf in japan when they have the records for attracting the most number of fans in a concert, another for being the first foreign artist to have the most number of chart toppers.and are you oblivious that they are actually KOREANS ?

HEROine's avatar

If japan doesnt care about TVXQ why are they being asked on almost ever show ? its been like 3 years and u tell me Japan still doesnt care ? they dont care but they buy their albums and solds out every concert?

Japan cares for Tohoshinki as much as TVXQ cares for them to0..to be exerting that much effort for each other..yeah. they are.

on psp so excuse my bluntness.  its unfair, but its JE doing good business on their part and, again, i doubt JE feels n e threat, especially wen dbsk’s best selling single (summer dream) was beaten by hey! say! 7, a bunch of kids at the time and it wasnt even a debut.  as for those insulting groups under JE, stop, especially if u know nothing the basics.  i’m a dbsk fan too, and i can honestly say, in my opinion that that its jae and su who can really sing (sometimes min gets it rite and sometimes…

he doesnt.  i love practically all the younger JE groups so trust me wen i say that in every of those groups there is at least one person who can sing (akanishi jin from kat-tun hits notes higher than jae or su can).  for proof u can youtube “never again”, “gold ballad version”, and “blue tuesday” for kat-tun and “ai nante” for NEWS.  as for those saying they all cant dance, thats not true.  some of them can and just because they dont dance like dbsk or other koreans doent equal “they suck”...

(i’ve them prove that they can too).  ss501 has stated once that along w/ the language, japanese style of dancing was very hard to learn.  as for why they act in dramas and such, marketing strategy.  more exposure and a popular drama can bring immense popularity, much like “we got married” is doing for its cast.  plus, u cant be forgotten if ur always.  (this means its not because “they cant sing”).  now, for why they dont really care about entering kpop/other asian music industry is because its stupid…

to do so.  jap industry is only second to the US so to go elsewhere would only lose money. jap singles/albums cost more but they also sell more.  ex: suju’s album sold 150,000 (rounded up) last year.  KAT-TUN’s lowest for the first week’s sale of one of their singles a little over 300,000 copies.  in other things, quite few of them has written lyrics to their own solo’s as well as composing.  none of them are talentless.  each of them is good at something, be it dancing, singing, acting, mc-ing or…

something else.  i’m a huge JE fan who’s crazy alot of the time but i can view things w/ a leveled head when the occasion calls for it.  so it pisses me off when people attack JE artist for the mere fact that their agency is smart and taking measures to protect their business and interest.  LSM models SM after JE (did any of u guys know that?) so i’m sure if he had power over kmedia as much as JE have over jmedia he would ban people too.  in the end, i dont like people who look down on JE artists…

marks's avatar

@dangobaby : it is not about the numbers. it is about recognizing talent and results. three no.1s on oricon weekly with a record to boot is something of note. there are artistes invited onto MS who have sold less than dbsk, and they get to go on it. if it is about numbers, than music fighter, music fair, music japan and the ever fun hey3 wouldn’t have invited them countless times. these shows know talent and are very willing to promote it.
as for numbers, beautiful you has sold more than 89k in recent weeks and still selling well. and their current single is at 75k and still selling too because of the push in the later promos. their summer dreams single from last year though charted at no.2 sold more than 100k
