The Wrap Up: 2008 SBS Gayo Daejeon Awards

Phew, being the first site to put up full news coverage on the 2008 SBS Gayo Daejeon Awards was a lot of work! But we made it, and now, in order to make it easier for you guys to get to the content you want, here's the wrap up!
In order from worst to best (my opinion, the only one that matters):
12. Seo Taiji - full story and video

A legend perhaps, but nobody cares about him anyway. And besides, the only thing Legendary about Seo Taiji is that he's still making music after 30 - this is K-Pop and that usually doesn't happen. In any regards, he didn't even make it out to the show and it was pre-recorded, so he receives this years worst performance. And judging by the amount of comments this story has received, we shouldn't have even covered it. Hell, even Rain would've received more attention that this... which brings us to our next victim.
11. Rain - * coverage
We didn't even bother covering the man with the Magic Stick, because, I'm not very fond of magic sticks, unless it's my own. And also because, like Seo Taiji, nobody really cared for this performance. The only reason he's above Seo Taiji, is because he actually made it out to the show. Unfortunately, this performance would've ranked way higher, if Lee Hyori hadn't fallen to pneumonia... very unfortunate. Rain however did perform "I'm Coming," which is what I would've done if Lee Hyori was actually there. So sad... so sad. Anyway, get your coverage on this performance over at *.
10. The Wonder Boys - full story and video

And you thought last years performance was bad. This years was absolutely horrible, as they ruined 2 great songs, Girls' Generation's "Kissing You," and the Wonder Girls' "Nobody." Granted this was supposed to be a comedic performance, it was more like a horror flick. I mean 5 guys in tights and lipstick, saying they want to Kiss me, and Nobody but me? That's just gross.
09. Taeyeon, Sunye and Davichi - full story and video

These girls performed Destiny's Child's "Stand up for love," and it was actually very impressive. Strong vocals, but otherwise pretty bland and boring.
08. Big Bang and Seungri's solo - full story and video

I'm really not a big fan of Big Bang's awful vocals, cheesy Engrish lyrics, or gangsta wannabe attitudes. So be happy that they even made it onto this list. All in the all the performances weren't bad, and the Scat Man intro was a nice touch, signifying that their Engrish makes about as much sense as scatting.
07. Wonder Girls - full story and video

The Wonder Girls performed yet another remix of their hit song Nobody, in the weirdest outfits ever. But their vocals have definitely improved. Anyway, what I don't understand is, why try so hard only to fail miserably in picking out their outfits. I'm telling you, let me manage a girl group and they'd be the biggest hit in Korea, they'd only be allowed to wear Bikini's, even in the winter. And if that gets too cold, I'd have no problem providing them with warmth.
06. SHINee - full story and video

Ahhh... the rookies that perform like veterans. What else is there to say about these boys. Solid vocals, strong dancing abilities and a good stage presence. Yet another one of SM Entertainment's perfectly manufactured idol bands. What SM does, it's a science. Or in the words of Rain, "It's a perfect!"
05. Yunho, Seungri, Taemin, Jaebum and Eunhyuk dance battle - full story and video

The highly anticipated dance battle between members of the most popular groups in Korea. Always a high demand for this kind of stuff. Anyway, once again SM's superior manufacturing process is evident here, as Taemin of SHINee and Yunho (U-know) of TVXQ put on the most explosive performances. Oh and of course, Jaebum of 2PM just had to put on some clothing removal moves, obviously handed down from his mentor, JYP.
04. Girls' Generation and Big Bang's music drama - full story and video

Do I really have to say anything? So long as Girls' Generation is involved, especially Yuri or Jessica, then it's automatically in the top 5. With that said, look out for Girls' Generation's new album "GEE" on January 7, 2009. And be on the lookout for our super Girls' Generation giveaway, details will be posted soon!
03. Xiah Junsu and Taeyang's piano battle - full story and video

What was supposed to be a piano battle between TVXQ's Xiah Junsu and Big Bang's Taeyang, turned out to be more of a vocal battle. Obviously, we know who wins in the vocal department, but check out the full story and video for a surprise Engrish fiesta!
02. TVXQ fingers the Korean Government - full story and video

And I'm not talking about the good kind of fingering, but the middle finger in your face kind of fingering. To wrap up the year and make a statement, TVXQ decided to go through by performing their banned lyrics, "Under my skin," and to further insinuate that they are greater than government, they ripped off their shirts, driving fan girls wild. How's that for subliminal messaging?
01. BoA - full story and video

There's a reason why BoA is doing by far the best in America, as opposed to the other K-Pop stars, and it's not only because she's a cute little Asian girl, who is able to meet the fetishes of horny guys. The Pop princess BoA, put on 2 of the best performances of the night: "Eat You Up" and "Look Who's Talking." Very polished.
UPDATE: Here are the rest of the performances
01. KARA - Dressed like playboy bunnies, minus the nice succulent silicone breasts, these girls did a good job. Looking forward to seeing more of them in 2009.
02. Super Junior-Happy - Their circus spectacular was exactly that, minus the spectacular. This is only here for the few remaining ELF - Enjoy!
03. Son Dambi - Shit, how did I miss this one before. Son Dambi, her body speaks for itself.
04. Dynamic Duo + Big Bang special stage - Hip hop stage. I don't like it.
05. Epik High, Brown Eyed Girls, and Eun Ji-Won - Where is the Love (Black Eyed Peas) - I don't like it.
06. 2PM and 2AM One Day Special - The not-so-special-special One Day performance, including a "Starwars" light saber battle and a dance remix of "This Song."
07. FT Island - Last but definitely not least is FT Island. They are definitely one of my favorite recent bands, it's just that, they are never around. If you didn't know, rock is one of my favorite genre's of music and in K-Pop they are about as close as you can get, at the moment. In any regards, even with their sicknesses, Lee Hongki pulled off some amazing vocals. If I could re-arrange my list now, I'd put these guys at around the 2nd or 3rd place mark.
That's all from the 2008 SBS Gayo Daejeon awards. Hopefully this wrap up will allow you to find all of our coverage a lot easier, as well as skip the crap. With that said, below is a wrap of 2008 K-Pop, courtesy of Girls' Generation. Enjoy!
