Wonder Girls

Although the Wonder Girls were the first Korean artists to ever break into the Top 100 in the entire existence of the Billboard charts, their success was short lived.

Will they be able to produce a bigger hit this time around? Only time will tell, however JYP insists on focusing all his energy on the US market as he stated during their press conference in Korea on the 23rd, that the Wonder Girls do not have future plans in Korea at the moment. JYP plans on bringing the girls back to the states soon to completely focus on the US and European markets.

Good luck to the Wonder Girls!

w-o-w. even though they made it on the billboard top 100, i’m not really awed by it somehow. i’m not a real big fan of “Nobody” since it came out last year and is reallllyyy overplayed so . . .

blazethunda's avatar

Wow. Really?
Personally, I think they should try and focus on Korea again first. Call me old fashioned, but I think it’s more important to focus on where you come from, rather than spreading everywhere.
But that’s just me. They’re still a great group. smile

jhyekyo's avatar

wow first not so -good news for us wonderfuls in a long time…
but that’s alright. atleast the made it
we know they’re gonna get back up, at a higher rank when their album comes up… RIGHT?
they’re still the best
wonder girls FIGHTING!

3at, get the fuck off.

I dunno JYP only provided Justice with 30,000 copies of the single, and they all promptly sold out.  I’m sure if more were available they’d be doing pretty good.  The Girls will do well; JY is motivated.

That suck but w.e Nobody is blah….
New song please ^^

ouch><
but then again, none of the asian wg fans really cared because the song is so old. i think that if they put out a different and really good song it would do really well. also, like @12 said, the copies sold out so there was nothing more to sell…

omg the euro market ... rave time! lol .. seriously.

what goes up must come down.
i mean this was the first time….theres always a tomorrow

well it’s pretty easy to fall off when you’re #76 on the list.

the American music market can be fickle. you’re up then you’re down. that’s no surprise.

also although “NOBODY” is so well known in Korea.

but “NOBODY” is still a NOBODY in the United States that NOBODY knows about.

that’s proved by how the song FELL off the charts SO QUICKLY.

the reason it got on the charts is because of FANS who voted over and over again.

the WONDER GIRLS are GOOD but they still have a LOT OF WORK TO DO.

whatever man, this is just the beginning~~~~

Go back to Korea and give 2NE1 some competition. hehe.

100plus's avatar

it’s ok.
they reached rank 77th on Billboard top100,
it’s already good

but we want new song pls

Kvanne's avatar

jyp expected it to happen.

Um…CORRECTION: Wonder girls are NOT the first Korean artists to break the Billboard Hot 100. Kim Bum Soo reached 51 in 2001. They can only be called the first Korean group to break the billboard 100.

...JYP couldn’t possibly think that Nobody would actually stay on the charts for a long time..it’s a song you hear, like, listen to a lot, then a week later, delete from your ipod. Sorry girls..but it’s true…now go make a better song.

gloW's avatar

JYP said “even we failed, we failed with pride”.

dang, that sorta sucks…
how long were they on their for?

damyoungji's avatar

Considering how it was their first song to be released, I don’t think their success is a failure at all.

zombievic's avatar

I’m not surprised…. They need to do more television and radio. Honestly though the song is probably too pop for American radio.  Keep fighting though! Love them!!!!!!

jennyfermoon's avatar

aw i hope they get back up there again one day.

Go Wonder Girls! even their hit fall off the chart, I still think they did a good job!

It’s sad but you have to look at it this way; i read somewhere that jyp only had 30,000 copies made of the nobody remix single. I cant remember where i read it but that particular article said that they sold more than half of that pressing of the single in the first week. I think this was really just an expirement for jyp; he wanted to see if they could even chart. Just imagine how high they will chart now that we know they can succeed here in th u.s. their next single will probably have a lot more copies in production and thus record sales will be higher and they will chart better. The billboard chart and the billboard radio/ airplay chart are not the same thing so i hope nobody was confused about that. I live in knoxville tennessee and i heard “nobody” on the radio the other day and if stupid little knoxville tennessee is playing the song then it must be doing well here.
Their success will not come over night you have to think about the population difference between the u.s. and korea too. we have about 308 million people here so because of that it is much harder to get your stuff out there and takes a lot of hard work. I’m not saying that korea isnt just as hard but that we have lot more people to market too which can make it difficult. I have no doubt that the wonder girls can make it in the u.s. and neither should you.

p.s. the particular chart they mention is the record sales chart so they still did pretty good.

camia's avatar

Aww… That’s sad… But I read from somewhere that their CDs were sold for 1$ each… So I guess the fall was expected.. I think JYP didnt really sell their music through the albums but he was just trying to introduce the girls to the Americans…
