Stormy Day for Rain

Rain / Bi was in Hawaii for the past week because of his lawsuit from Click Entertainment. Click Entertainment claims to have lost more than $1 million (with promotions) in a deal with Rain's managers because of his Cancellation of a Hawaii concert back in 2007. Click Entertainment paid Rain $500,000 up front and they claim that they were refused a return of the money even though the concert was canceled.

Well things are looking stormy for Rain, because the jurors decided in favor of Click Entertainment to the tune of $8,700,000! Excerpt from the Pacific Business News:

A federal court jury in Honolulu found South Korean pop star Rain guilty of fraud for canceling a Hawaii concert in 2007 and ordered him to pay nearly $8.7 million in damages.

The jury deliberated for less than a day before reaching the verdict and settling on the award, which includes $5 million in punitive damages.

Rain, whose real name is Ji-Hoon Jung, was sued by Click Entertainment and its owner, Seong Su Lee, after the singer abruptly canceled a concert scheduled at Aloha Stadium in June 2007... Rain also faces lawsuits from promoters in California. Honolulu attorney Eric Seitz, who represented Click Entertainment, said outside court he will move to get the judgment paid quickly.

Referring to Rain, Seitz told The Honolulu Advertiser: “He’s a very talented young man and I’m sorry he got caught up in this.”

Attorneys for Rain and his managers left the courthouse without speaking to reporters.

I bet he's not sorry about the big paycheck he's going to be getting from the attorney fees... Anyways this is a very unfortunate situation for Rain, but at at least he can afford it (purchasing a $11,000,000 building). Hopefully, the forecast for his future is a little less cloudy. Thanks to Lucky and Luna for the tip.

the fact is mistaken. He need to pay more than $3 mil. Jyp has to pay the rest.(around 5 mill I think). Anyway, I don’t think he should pay anything because I know for sure he not gonna just want to steal money from them and cancel a concert. (he still performed with his injured hand). I think it is the problem between jyp and click. He had no say in the concert because he was under jyp. Good luck rain. I hope jyp learn this and not gonna make another mistake in wonder girls.

baby_posh57's avatar

the contract must be lacking details about cancellations that’s why rain and jyp refused to pay for return.. anyway, i never thought that Rain earns that big to buy a building that much.. whoah! He should pay Click in coins as revenge (like in confessions of a shopaholic)!!!!! haha..

the verdict doesn’t surprise me at all.  what surprises me is that his clouds are still defending him.  he defrauds them and doesn’t apologize ... and you all are still looking the other way and excusing his behavior.

i worry for the future.

He should have know better - that dude…
it might be not so much money for him at this point but let’s see if it’s the same case when he looses in Cali, too. All in all he agreed on cancelling his concerts and therefore he should have known better referring to probable punitive damages.
People still speculate about actual reasons…so far so good but people will wonder ‘bout dat.
go rain, it’s rain—it raining troubles- you’re in pain.

In a way its been good for him too. He’s gotten free advertising on some american blog sites like TMZ. He’s been in the news in the phillipines, thailand, japan, china. He’s also been on the news in the LA Times and Honolulu newspapers… good advertising for him.

LMAOOOO @ the header. Sucks for rain, but I kinda figured they’d rule against him after another article said Click had already been awarded a judgement against two other companies involved that were now defunct. That’s when they decided to go after Rain and jyp. He really shouldn’t have taken the 500k or given it back when he knew he wasn’t going to perform. Keeping it and then breaking contract made him look bad.

Damn@ 5 million punitive. The judge must have really thought they were scamming.

Those who believe that it was a fraud are just dumb…
And 3 mln .... JYP should pay it all.
Wonder if he will make the same mistake with WG, 2am or pm

no avatar

y didnt they give the money back? they gets enough money anyways…thats y jyp does like 5 concerts in one year plus extra things with wondergirls, 2pm and 2am. as for rain hopefully he makes better decisions wen it comes down to these kinds of things.

Can’t believe all his stupid fans here still defend this thief. He and JYP ripped off Click Ent. and the fans of Hawaii. So Rain is on his way back to Korea with his tail between his legs. I bet that thief does not pay up. Please don’t come back to Hawaii you thief. Just think California is next and you will pay dearly in that court case also. Then it will be a couple of other places in the US that are suing you. You will not have not money left after they get finish with you. Should of paid them off in the first place instead of hiding out in Korean like the thief you really are.

mrbean's avatar

Well.
That’s what you get when you go booking concerts and ditching at the last minute, you gotta pay up.
He cancelled a concert here in Toronto last year too at the last minute, but there were no law suits from that.
Him and JYP should know better now.

He is getting some publicity alright. I’m from Poland and this was on the online news this morning. I have never seen news about a Korean artist in Polish news before raspberry

I think he’d prefer to be in the Polish news for a better reason than this. Hahaha.
