Sohee & Sunmi are Too Cool for School

The young and glamorous Wonder Girl maknae members So Hee and Sun Mi have dropped out of high school to focus more on their activities here in the U.S.

During a phone interview on the 15th, a JYP Entertainment representative revealed, "So Hee and Sun Mi dropped out of school voluntarily a while back." Until now, '92ers Sun Mi and So Hee have been attending CheongDam High School and ChangMoon High School, respectively.

The representative continued, "While in Korea, even though the girls were busy, they were able to squeeze school in with the little time they had, but it is not possible to do the same in America." Additionally, "Since one or two months ago, the topic of whether Sun Mi and So Hee should drop out or not was discussed among their relatives," and that, "it would be good if fans could look at this situation on the bright side."

Sohee & Sunmi are Too Cool for School

As for the other members, Yoo Bin is already on a leave of absence from Myongji University while Sun Ye and Ye Eun who were admitted to Dongguk University and Kyunghee University in 2008, have also signed up for a leave of absence as well.

Although I think that their education is very important, I respect big man JYP and his decisions. I mean, he's the genius that got the girls to where they are now, right? And plus, this is all for you guys, so let's cheer on the Wonder Girls as they make their big debut in America in two weeks time on 27th June.

if worse comes to worse they can study foriegn language i mean they will be learning madarin and english
thats totally their fall back how about translaters or english teachers in koera
i highly doubt their parents will let them not have an education
i highly doubt they dont have tutors i mean they have trainers for everything else??

if not then maybe jyp will give them a corporate job in his company
both sohee and sumni are bright girls you guys act like they are stupid
they are 17 year olds that know the meaning of hardwork and sleepless nights i have no doubt that they will be successful in the future no matter where life takes them

i know education is not the only way to feed you in the world, but still, I think they should just at least finish school

damyoungji's avatar

I thought that Koreans always focused on education above everything else.

But considering how they are busy with the activities in the states and they are trying to make it big (bigger than now), I guess it is good that they dropped out (hopefully not forever?). After all, studying will only exhaust them and they are already focusing on learning English. Wonder Girls can be an exception I guess.

talynoda's avatar

wow, i didn’t know they were 92-ers, im older than them by a year, but they look so much older than me hahaha ouch.

i guess if their career continues the boom, it’s ok, but education is still important

kachei's avatar

they still need education.

kyutie13's avatar

well….at least they’ll go back eventually….hopefully homeschooled, it would suck to be held back..

we all respect JYP,but can’t he get them teaching at home system or something?WG won’t last for ever,& education is the most important thing in yougs life!

panshel's avatar

So disappointed. They better get their GEDs.

Go wonder girls!

HaejiDaeji's avatar

I guess there’s nothing they can really do about it, seeing as they’re in the States, but it still makes me uneasy. Education goes a long way, and who knows where they’ll be in a few years? I doubt their popularity will diminish but who knows. Anything can happen.

JojoHJ's avatar

I respect their decision because i’m confident that they know what they are doing.
I’m still gonna be their fan!
But still I hope they get a tutor or something becuase education is very important!

UGoGirl's avatar

I hope they at least get the equivalent of their GEDS. KPop singers make so little of the money actually gained from them that in a few years, they’ll wish they had their education.

frigtartsxp's avatar

yup yup agree wiith the last paragraph totally smile

i hope they get private schooling…even though they have lots of money, they should still get an education.

i doubt it with their schedules but i do hope they’re gna be homeschooled. leave of absence from college is fine, but dropping out of high school is kinda too early. there are lots of stuff that they should learn and should know, like any other girl of their age. education broadens a person’s perspective, and molds a person to be a better part of society. dang, i really hope they do something about it.

something about being unlearned and vacuous is just so unappealing.

no avatar

ahh I hope they finish up HS when their schedule settles down a bit.  Buuut that just puts more pressure on WG to crack the US market…

getlazy's avatar

Her singing sucks anyways. Never liked her, they should at least hire a teacher to tour with them, and get taught at free times.
I think the lack of education WILL matter.

22Tsuji22's avatar

The what one or so year they had left, you honestly don’t learn anything more xD I mean senior year of HS people usually take slacker classes lol.
Can’t wait for the America debut!

VUDU's avatar

I’m not surprised by this at all
They’re under contract with JYP after all
I’m sure they will continue their education somehow
They have to appease the stereotypical education driven Asians anyways

YelloPhase's avatar

hahhahaha if they do well in the US industry, then it will be fine lol

sujuftw's avatar

Wow, so busy! So many sacrifices…T____T; let’s wish them the best in both Korea and the US; heck, maybe the entire universe will know them! ^_- And after that, they can return to their studies, although I highly doubt they’ll be able to fully concentrate on them with fangirls/boys chasing their tails 24/7 xDDDD~~~~

no avatar

UGH ! whateverr,, atleast let them finish highschool, also college. > <

no avatar

pshh…thats no big deal…..look at those american artists who go to jail..dropping out is like nothing…......i think jyp would arrange all theses nicely

LEV's avatar

Wow, that was a tough decision for them. GL in everything they do and hopefully the success will continue so education won’t be a problem down the road. Sucks Sun Mi and So Hee couldn’t finish high school though. =\ College can wait, but high school?

no avatar

late news much? xD

lots of people in the entertainment biz drop out of school. plus, the girls can still get tutors~

and uh… yeah… lots of dumbasses commenting i see.

no avatar

shame that they cant finish school, but WonderGirls still rock!!!!

no avatar

Finally! Someone answered my question!
I’ve been wondering ever since they moved to the US how they were completing school I was especially concern about Sohee and SunMi since they were still in high school. I though JYP might have hired a private tutor for these girls. I think that would have been better than having be high school drops out. But then again, with their level of success, they don’t need a high school diploma to have a rich life. Though…I think their parents would prefer that they do.

bunny-army's avatar

Wel lthat makes sense.. I hope JYP gets them tutors though hahaha

what the eff… why would they do that? what are they planning to do once their career is over? and if they fail in america? they could at least get tutors. IDIOTS

Enkuush=]'s avatar

oh tat sucks…
nd i cant believe their parents agreed to it…

no avatar

I hope they’re homeschooled :x Dropping out at 16 (SoHee’s 16 right :x? or 17?) is really kind of ... aaack.  But then again, they’re famous and well… yeah. At least they’ve got it figured out and aren’t wavering or anything.

Them dropping out of school isn’t surprising.  There is no way they could persue normal studies while jetsetting around the world for all their various debuts.  I personally don’t think it is a wise one, but that is because I’ve always been raised to treasure the ability to get an education.  A lot of japanese pop stars end up dropping out of school and they seem to do all right with their bucketfuls of cash though.  Meh.

I do hope that they get a chance to go back to school in the near future though.  It’s for the best that they have some solid schoolin’ to fall back on post idol career.

no avatar

hope all goes as well..i reckon they’re learning alot outta school atm anyways..

Daikirai's avatar

This is one of the things that make me feel really sad for entertainers.. =/ their lives are just so hectic, they can’t even attend school.

no avatar

i respect their decision. always supporting Wondergirls~ :]

no avatar

I wish them the best.

cocopop's avatar

I hope they made the right decision.

sks020's avatar

That’s too sad. I hope they resume their studies as soon as they have time to do so. I know that their activities are way important but they should realize that their studies are much much important. Anyway.. I just hope they would be successful in the US.. good luck touring with Jonas Brothers! <3

no avatar

I don’t think this is right. They should at least be able to fit homeschooling, no? Even American stars did that, I thought. The entertainment industry is so fickle that even though they’re major stars now, they might be without a job later.

baby_89757's avatar

They should try to push the momentum of their fame as much as possible while they can, and I know they won’t have time to fully concentrate on both this and school. School may have to take a backseat for now, but I think it’d be a mistake to drop education completely. They should still do a little bit of lessons, maybe weekly, with a tutor, just so they won’t have too much trouble picking up education again should they ever decide to go back full-time. I only have a small idea how hard it is for them to balance all aspects of their life, and I totally respect what they’re doing and the efforts they make ^^ (even if I don’t respect sohee’s singing :p). Good luck!!
