SNSD Controversies: Not Fighting, No Plagiarism

SNSD: Fighting? Plagarism? Wrong.

Another day, another SNSD controversy. Only this time, netizens have presented us with a double dose of issues relating to SM's female nonagon. And, just like the Yoona-Tiffany-underoo hullabaloo, initial tabloid-fodder has given way to reasonable explanations.

First, we have the Jessica-Seohyun Music Core incident. While performing "Etude" on MBC Music Core on June 27th, Jessica appeared to blow up at Seohyun for getting in her way, shoving Seohyun while spewing out "juh gee rah, ss**** (go away, f*****!).

Netizens pounced on the apparent discord within the So Nyuhs, but the whole thing was just a prank. Koreans have this common birthday prank in which they act like megajerks towards the birthday boy/girl, only to unveil a surprise party and laugh off all of the pretend hate. As Seohyun's birthday was on June 28th, Jessica was simply enacting that fake hate. Considering how much netizens overreact to these kinds of things, however, it probably wasn't the best idea to publicly carry out that prank during a live performance.

The second controversy is over ownership of SNSD's new single, "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)". Netizens dug up a song by Uzbekistani pop singer Dineyra released a few months ago that sounds very similar to SNSD's song.

Due to SM Entertainment's past remake issues, many people were quick to assume that the company had simply bought another already-released song. But, news reports are stating that the song is supposed to be SM's and SM's only. They officially purchased the music from Universal Music Publishing Group on February 1st, 2009, with the song's lyrics and K-pop-ification done by SM-hired Yoo Young Jin and Yoo Han Jin. Universal Music Publishing Group has stated that they believe their song's demo tape was leaked, and is considering legal action against the producers of Dineyra's song.

But regardless of what happens between UMPG and the Uzibekistani entertainment world, the important thing for us K-pop fans is that SM and SNSD are free of any guilt on this particular issue, and that we can listen to "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" without any controversies lingering in the back of our minds.

I thought the Jessica being mean and calling Seohyun names was hilarious. That is a weird tradition I’ve never heard of.

OMG!! I heard it and it is almost the same… O_O…. I was shocked..

woah…. this song is SUPER similar. :|

Pranks are funny and all but did Jessica really need to take it that far during a performance?

Lol, oh please. Anybody who KNOWS SNSD knows that they are close as hell, and they would never do that to eachother, especially something like pushing the maknae. It’s pretty ridiculous to even think about, of course it’s just a joke.

And about the song, good to know that it’s the fault of the Uzbekistan company and not SM/SNSD.

Now people need to stop being so hateful toward these girls.

These girls never get a break ROFL…And to the SM Haters, SM owns the song so this Uzibekistani person and their company should be expecting a call soon, I betta they thought no one would notice since they are in some unknown country >.< but K-Netizens can find more things than the FBI.

Sica didnt do it during a live broadcast, it was during Mucor and we can clearly see that they are not holding their mics. It was either the rehearsal or that thing they do to get the audience cheers while the performance is broadcast on TV.

either way, these days netizens/antis are fire. A new attack everyday. lol

SNSD have ALWAYES been freakishly RUDE and UNFRIENDLY

Either way, it’ll be clarified when SNSD go on radios to promote TMYW. Like how Tiffany and Yoona did it with their “scandal”. Rofl, you should post the email that was sent by a fan regarding this statement and the statement in reply from Dmusic themselves.

“Considering how much netizens overreact to these kinds of things, however, it probably wasn’t the best idea to publicly carry out that prank during a live performance.” MORE like netizens need to spend their lives doing better things than looking at specifics of EVERY SIGNLE FRIGGEN DETAIL of the SNSD girls like wtf??? this whole thing is pissing me off. @47. WOW! how did u get that information? good riddens! problem solved people! Now let us all rejoice with cake! I’m glad that SM is guilt-freeee! (:

Universal Music says;

No, we own this song. Dsign are Universal writers. GG / SM were given this song exclusively to record and release.

The Uzbekistan release is an unauthorized, and unlawful version and not approved by us. GG/SM are at no fault at all. A press message will be sent out shortly.

I don’t know why,... but I think I love Dinerya’s version more than SNSD. Cause it has a latin & Indian feel in the song & I think the vocal are better than SNSD

Just an opinion>_<

wow its really the same…

SM’s song always has so many version in different language.
Last year, we saw another version of DBSK’s mirotic, and then SHINee’s song…. and than this??????

I think it’s because SM can’t produce their own song (Like YG or JYP…. no offense^_^),
In fact I don’t think they have their own great composer & music producer (Like Teddy, G-D & Kush from YG or JYP himself in JYP)

They always buy their song from foreign composer.
It’s just soooo wrong, because the composer still can sell their song to another singer in different country. That’s why they always had issue with plagiarism.

If they don’t want any plagiarism issue, please….... produce & compose their own song.
But they must find a great producer first >_<

snsd fighting~!

crazy netizens. chill out. controversy is just another way of putting a certain group or person in the spotlight. in SNSD’s case, the more controversy there is the more exposure they get. they win as long as it’s pure speculation and nothing completely negative. I’d love to see the girls get more involved with the song writing team, though.

SM, im disappointed again they did the some thing with shinee song they copy form others what i have heard the song was exactly the same@ 27 dont blame the article man get a life if u dont know this isn’t the 1st time that SM did it copy form others i know that u r a fan but come on the article also said that the song was released a few months ago
the way i see it the SM is not putting much Effort to Make new music
