Seo In Young suffered from depression

On the next episode of SBS’s Ya Shim Man Man 2, airing on the 22nd, Jewelry’s Seo In Young admitted that the reason why she took an impulsive vacation to America was because she suffered from depression.

In Young revealed that she thought she could handle the stress from her excessively packed schedule, but the stress did eventually get to her, causing her to feel depressed most of the time. To recuperate from her dejected morale, she made the decision to cancel all her activities and go on a trip to America. In Young also confessed that her distressed mental state was so bad that she was prescribed mood stabilizers which she took at night before she went to bed.

Seo In Young suffered from depression

I won’t make fun of Seo In Young’s confession, in view of the fact that there have been many tragic suicides in the past year that were more or less caused due to depression. However, this is the second time in recent weeks that a majorly successful K-celeb has admitted to being depressed due to working too much. Truthfully, it’s hard for me to understand how a celebrity can be depressed for having too full of a plate.

Fame is a fickle bitch and I’m sure many once famous celebrities whose star has faded away into the dark unknown would kill to have their phone ring off the hook with job offers. Nonetheless, it’s good that In Young did what she needed to do to get over her dispirited state of mind. In Young will be making a comeback in August with Jewelry.

Stress hits those who have too little work or too much. People sometimes just need a break or a “big break”. I am glad she did what she needed to take care of herself.

depression just doesn’t go away… so, i hope that since she has admitted to her depression she is committed to working towards a healthy lifestyle and make the changes that will provide her with the physical, mental, and emotional strength to continue living her life as healthy overall… good luck.

I’m sure there’s more to the story than just a full schedule. Fame takes its toll when you’re at the height of it-especially with these crazy netizens.

That’s why I get really pissed off when people bash celebrities to the extent of pushing them to depression. Even if I don’t like the celebrity myself, I hate that people do and say the most horrible things to celebrities and then complain that the suicide rate in Korea is retarded. -_-

this sounds mean but a lot of people have suffered from depression.  I have.  It’s not some uncommon thing.  She isn’t anything special just because she’s a celebrity.

well in north america, actors are allowed a break period which means.. if they work 12 hrs, they get a 12 hr break. there’s no such thing out in korea.. so when they have a full schedule.. that could mean 16 hrs a day.. 7 days a week or something.. after a few months of that, that would take a toll on anyone

@roro, Would you be wanting someone saying that about you because you were a celebrity? She’s not just a celebrity, she’s a human being. She’s not getting any special treatment, I hope to god that people would have the same sympathy about anyone else, celebrity or not. Yes, a lot of people suffer from depression, but that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be sympathetic or at least considerate of those with depression just because a lot of people suffer from it.

they deserve it.

She totally ran to Crown J’s arms. XD

But seriously, honesty is good. I hope that whomever she’s with, they make her feel like life is worth living because tragedy lurks too near to the doors of Korean celebs.

Hope the witch enjoys her spell of R&R and is able to take on anything soon! <3

I hope she recovers completely, but on the same note, I’m 100% in agreement with the author.

The kind of depression she suffers from overworking is a blessing to the thousands of reject entertainers in Kpop (and elsewhere in the world) who are suffering from depression because they can’t get a job to feed themselves. What’s worse, for these people, they have to bear the “I told you so” from their family and friends, guilt, shame, poverty…

Much better to be depressed as a front cover girl than as a nobody.

Of course, it’s much better to not be depressed at all.

sweetless.skye's avatar

oh wow. i hope she’s doing better now. it’s good that she made the decision to take time of for herself from her busy schedule.

Hey, that’s awesome she thinks America is a great place to relax and recharge.  We need to engage the Korean tourism market and I want it here in America.  All the hot Korean female celebs should fly to Hawaii so we can see you in bikinis.

melibie's avatar

thats good that she fine now

I hope that she’s doing better. Depression can happen to anyone and the pressures and stress from the entertainment industry is probably taking a toll on many celebs.

you mean “anti-depressant medication” not “mood-stabilizers” right? b/c she suffered from depression and NOT a mood disorder such as Bipolar disorder…

janne5000's avatar

i never would have thought that In Young would ever suffer from depression, but it’s a good thing she’s stable now. and i’m glad that her vacation to the US gave her some time to recuperate.

yeahh,
depression is really a problem,
and i feel like koreans look down on depressed people,
so i don’t blame her for leaving to america for a bit.

It’s scaryy to think of how our beloved artists/singers appear so playful on TV screen with a bright smile but they actually are having hard times. The more famous they are, the more stress they get…like bashing from antis. especially
...Lee Da Hae…now her..TT____TT~sad….

Even though she might be one of the most annoying korean celebrities of all time, I’m glad she didn’t take her life.  Maybe she’ll step down as a celeb and live a quiet, less visible life soon.  I hate her attitude so much -.-

everyone wants to be a celebrity so bad, they don’t consider how much they suffer in order to earn the glitz and glam

ChangMin Honey's avatar

Well since you don’t understand let me explain it to you when you are too busy and not sleeping right and continually working on little if no sleep at all your body starts to feed on itself..and depletes itself. You need proper rest for your body to work right mentally, physically and emotionally. Even computers if you push them to work 24/7 continuously break down.

I don’t know why it has to be feast or famine in Korean entertainment. Seems like the entertainment company’s are the ones making a killing. Not sure why there is no balance.

Lack of adequate sleep over time, and lack of proper nutrition will make you depressed because the body will only recuperate when it is rested sleep in not overrated since it is what keeps you functioning well and alive and keeps you from hearing voices and becoming psychotic and wanting to kill yourself or others. Whether lack of sleep is due to stress or an irregular schedule. Just feel entertainers should be paid better.

Hope she’s feeling better now.
