Rain on Discovery Channel

Rain was featured on Discovery Channel in a documentary called "Hip Korea, Seoul Vibes."

It's just like a regular documentary on Discovery Channel including the narrator with the accent.

The inspiring documentary is about the rising status of Korean pop culture on the international scene and it portrays Bi leading the way. The documentary focuses on Bi's efforts which have made him from a awkward young cub struggling with poverty and the pain of losing his mother, to a world star and strong healthy beast. Sounds like the Lion King... Rain is Simba!

With Bi's consent, the Discovery Channel's production crew followed the human-lion everywhere for six months to capture his every move. Even the dance off with Stephen Colbert!!

Thanks to mia for the heads up.

I liked the documentary, even though it was more about Rain and less about Korean pop culture.
BTW I was very surprised with JYP’s English; he can speak pretty well.

I would have liked the documentary even better if they had added DBSK in it. Heck, make a whole documentary about DBSK lol.

“Sounds like the Lion King…Bi is Simba and JYP is Uncle Scar.” LMAOOOO
WHY only rain? huh? DBSG OBVIOUSLY does great as well. (Maybe) Even better.

JennyKim319's avatar

I watched this on TV and I was really surprised at JYP’s English! I heard he used to live in Florida, so maybe that’s why?

Anyways, I like how well Discovery showed how important Korean entertainment is to Korea. I was afraid they’d over or under exagerate things but they didn’t ^_^

After watching this, I have more respect and give credit to Rain for his hardwork and determination. ^^
The story about his mother is sad. :’(

i wonder if the Finnish discovery channel will ever show this…
well, i’m sure they’ll show it whenever our conract with the cabel-TV ends.

just my luck.
not like i’m interested in Bi though.
lol… why’s he everywhere when it’s about korean music?
it pisses me off that even the finnish music magazines have written about Bi…..................................... and not about someone else, who’s a little more talented than him.

cough. my personal view about Bi is not that great as you can see,
so maybe i should try to watch this anyway.

I’m so going to watch this when i get home from work.

i just watched it. LOL! and now i totally understand why eunice c was talking about the lion king. hahahah! and the announcer just topped the cake since his voice would fit so well with african safari documentaries ... all in all, im glad i stayed up till 2am watching this haha!

btw, i don’t know why i kept laughing every time jae dong oppa came on ... it was soooo amusing watching him be serious lol!

So some of you guys are going to support him now that you’ve heard what he’s been through? Why didn’t you support him before that and you might have learnt what he’s been through without having to watch it on the Discovery Channel…=/

tin2gg's avatar

Wow I’m a big fan of Rain since I first saw him on the k-drama Full House. I actually happened to watch this show on discovery channel and was in fact surprised to know that he led such a hard life. But I’m really happy for him in being able to reach his goals/dreams despite the challenges thrown his way. I’m actually waiting to see what he plans next in his career. Best of luck to Rain! :D

Enjoyed it.

The icing on the cake was the part where they interviewed a bloke who said Rain’s type of looks wouldn’t cut it in the 80s and 90s, and how Rain’s features has re-defined handsome standards today.

Very flattering

I wish they had downplayed the late mother part
- lying on a cold floor
- dying of diabetes before his debut and had time to treat her
- his determination stemming from wanting to make his mum proud etc. It has been done to death.

That said, I applaud him for wanting to try everything from being a music producer to cafe owner, designer etc.

Watching it made me realise - even if no one but just their closest friends knows - there was definitely some contention leading to his leaving JYPE. I will never believe the parting of ways was one hundred percent amicable. There was definitely tension, no matter what both of them insist.

I saw TOP…Lolz!
It was replayed around 11am here in the Philippines.
When I saw FullHouse, I feel nostalgic. It was one of the reasons why I continue to adore hallyu stars.
I wish Discovery Channel would feature more of Kpop.

I can’t wait to see Lee Byung Hun’s episode of “Hip Korea.”
That shit better be uploaded on youtube too…

Awww..its so heart-warming to read comments from non-fans who were somehow captured by Bi because of this documentary..I’m not done watching it on youtube, but whatever, I’ve always been a fan, so I’ll wait for the upload til eternity..lol

I think the reason why Rain is flag-bearer of hallyu is because he’s a very big part of spreading korea’s showbiz industry..He has achieved a lot and whether haters like it or not, he’s popular..He might not have the best looks or vocals out of korean artists, but hell, he can rock! Yeah baby! This is the start of it all!

Guys don’t forget to mark your calendars for Ninja Assassin! Though I don’t know when to mark mine either, but whatever..lol Let’s all go watch it!

orenji's avatar

I don’t think Bi is the leading of music scene from Korea. His music doesn’t sound so much right now nor his drama after the succesful of Full House.

Well, at least he got the Time magazine on his hand. That will put him a ‘world star’.
