Yoon Sang Hyun and Yoon Eun Hye

Yoon Eun Hye's comeback drama, Lady Castle has been "forced" to go through a title change, after answering a call from KBS to refrain from using any english words for the drama title. As a result, Lady Castle will now be known as Take Care of the Young Lady instead.

According to Lee Kim Productions, KBS had been working on a new spring policy (not compulsory, but encouraged), which aims to cut down on the use of English titles through its variety shows, dramas, current affairs, etc programs. Lee Kim Productions thus decided that Lady Castle needed a name change and organized a poll on the KBS website between 2 - 3 July, asking netizens to choose between Oh! My Princess (오! 나의 공주님) and Take Care of the Young Lady (아가씨를 부탁해). The titles are translated into english if you didn't know and it surely must be Lee Myung Bak's administration at work again. Take Care of the Young Lady won the poll in the end but Lee Kim Productions hasn't ruled out on the possibility on still using Lady Castle.

Yoon Eun Hye

We have heard earlier about Jung Il Woo and Yoon Sang Hyun joining Yoon Eun Hye and there's another new addition to the cast. Adorable child star of Speedy Scandal fame, Wang Suk Hyun will be joining the drama as well, playing Eun Hye's wealthy young cousin. Filming will begin very soon and it will premiere on 18th August.

Wang Suk Hyun

What would you name it as?

wang suk hyun is uber cute ^^ i like lady castle better~ short and precise, putting grammar aside. but looking at oh! my princess, and take care of the young lady, the korean characters are the same length, so i guess it wouldn’t be fair to say “take care of the young lady” to be “too long”, since they are discouraging the use english titles.

rachii-ee's avatar

Ewww, that title name sounds lame to me >< Oh! My Princess even sounds better than that :/

sho0rty's avatar

I like Oh! My princess more. it sounds a lot more catchy and funny. Lady castle sounds .. like they’re talking about an old lady alone in a castle? XD

I suspect this KBS policy is to counter illegal uploading of Kdramas onto sites like Youtube, by native Korean viewers, eg in Seoul . Normally, new Kdramas are shown on Korean TV first . Later, the Kdrama will be syndicated to foreign cable and satellite TV stations,  dub+sub in the local language . Later on, sold as DVDs . Without a universal English title, most non-Koreans won’t be able to find a particular Kdrama on the web . KBS will most likely give this drama a different English name for its foreign syndication———We should support our Kstars and go legal, as far as possible . . <3 Yoon Eunhye = cuter than my ShihTzu .

i think this is a good move.
lately korea has been incorporating in english a lot into their culture.
thats great and all, but then some korean words may not even be used anymore, being replaced by english words. then people who want to learn korean may not learn the full vocabulary. great move KBS!

I really like the idea of cutting down on the English words (I mean, we’re Korean… we should let Korean shine through)! smile I don’t want English to be TOTALLY gone from Korea, but if it was used less I’d like it more. I was actually just thinking about how weird it is that Korea literally turns the English title into the Korean title (it sounds weird too). But still… Lady Castle sounds the best out of all the choices!

@63: It sounds better in Korean haha smile

What is the story about? hehe… it would be funny if they pick a title that has nothing to do with the story at all…

No matter if it’s in Korean or not, it’ll still be translated back to english for the sake of promoting it in other countries, if that’s what they want to do later.

as long as the drama is still continuing

” lady castle ” although such fob english , was short and to the point . plus it wasn`t as tacky as ” oh! my princess ” and definitely not as long as ” take care of the young lady ” . they definitely should`ve kept it the waay it was .

chocofan's avatar

The title “Lady Castle” was cool….
