JYP Wonder Girls

The Wonder Girls have definitely lived up to their group name and performed wonders in the states. Their first US single Nobody, made the TOP 100 on the Billboard Charts, landing at 76th - and JYP spoke on how they managed to succeed.

Upon their return to Korea, JYP, the Wonder Girls, their parents, 2PM, as well as 150 employees of JYPE gathered on the 22nd and had an all night beer party. This is where JYP stated the 3 reasons on how the Wonder Girls were able to succeed in America.

JYP Stated:
1. The target audience was right (teens).

"Teenagers tend to discriminate against race less. If the song is catchy and the singers are cute, they are more likely to like them without any preconceptions."

2. US producers did not make the tracks, instead our own country's producers did, which brought something new and fresh.
"Nobody is a track that the Wonder Girls have perfected and could sing even in their sleep. In addition, working with American artists would be a waste of time, as the girls would have to learn a new system and work flow. By utilizing our own regular resources and staff, we were able to reduce the learning curve and save time."

3. Trial and error. JYP first came to the US in 2002 and then set up JYP USA in 2007. During that time period, there were countless trials with Rain as well as Lim Jeong Hee.
"You can never get full on the first glass. There was an immense amount of trial and error over a 5 year period, as well as many frustrations. All of those trials and errors stacked up and gave me the know-how for the Wonder Girls and it worked out well."

Congrats to JYP and the Wonder Girls, they have definitely come a long way and we hope to see much more soon.

Um yeah but Idk, for some reason that music seems to appeal to tweens here in the US. Well glad they broke through to the US? :] And all of these reasons seem to be common sense.

I wish them the best of luck when if they do a full-out album in America. :D

Congrats Wonder Girls!!!
True that they still have a long way to go. But you can still be happy that they made some kind of accomplishment rather than nothing.

“succeed”? When, where? It’s just how the WG were able to surpass Boa & Seven in their promotion, did they REALLY succeeded, too early to say so.

RahRah's avatar

I wouldn’t say they have succeded, but they’re doing their best atleast.

no avatar

they haven’t exactly succeeded yet and they can easily fall off of the billboard hot 100 list.

Leonis's avatar

Succeeded? Nope, not yet, they still have a long way to go.

Semblance's avatar

Landing at #76 on Billboard’s Top 100 isn’t really what most people would consider succeeding in America.

JennyLump's avatar

He’s right.. about the race thing. Younger people tend to be less screwy. smile Well.. sometimes. Hahaha…

bubblebee's avatar

yay for them

BoA and Se7en hasn’t toured through out the U.S. and Canada yet. Can they find that kind of backing the Wonder Girls did for a tour that Big???
#76 is huge step for foreign artists who cross over, especially from an Asian country. Leonna Lewis only landed up to #81 her first weeks of debuting in the U.S. from England

warchiLd03's avatar

76.. is still a low placing chart position.
but congrats though.. raspberry
pls.. make another kPop album!

And here we go again with people stating the obvious. LOL of course they have a long way. The title is misleading anyhow and it just asks for people to say “they haven’t succeeded yet.” Well no duh. I think JYP means how they’ve succeeded in breaking into the Billboard Hot 100 chart, sheesh. First you guys question the source for the 65 radio plays, then NOW when they’ve actually debuted on the hot 100, you still say they have a long way to go. Instead of just saying oh good for them and good luck to them. I mean really, it’s like you guys don’t want an Asian artist/group to make it in the US or something. I can understand skepticism, but most of it is just so negative that it’s just really…questionable. Doesn’t it get tiring to type the same “they’ve got a long way to go” in EVERY article, when we all already know that? They’re taking baby steps, obviously, but they’re baby steps nonetheless. It’s like a big deal to make the hot 100 chart when your first language isn’t even English; and in this case they’re Asian so it’s even more unbelievable. But hey, I guess you guys think it’s a piece of cake to make it in the American music industry. It takes longer than a year; why don’t you be patient and wait and see what happens before assuming they’ve failed already? I mean seriously.

“Nobody is a track that the Wonder Girls have perfected and could sing even in their sleep. “
HELL YEAH… over a year now since that song debuted… -___-
JYP is making his move towards a bugger star….clap clap

I am so proud of them! The group that got me into kpop has achieved sooooooo much. No, this doesn’t mean they’ve made it, but it is a fantastic start!  raspberry

no avatar

Just wondering, are they really popular in the US??
I used to live in the US when Rain made his debut, and it got big coverage in Korean media that he was successful, but i didn’t really see it in the States…
I wonder how it is with WG right now? Are they really this popular or is it just the media?? 0_o

warchiLd03's avatar

@32… but Leona’s music is way more acceptable in the US.

makkun's avatar

finally they’re back
time to scare the other girl groups away.
wonder girls fighting!

snsdxdot's avatar

i think #2 reason is very important!!

no avatar

@34 I agree completely.

michikinss's avatar

yay wondergirls (:

they don’t have their songs in California radio stations huh?
I would like to hear it

no avatar

He talks as if they are already in superstardom in the US….makes me laugh, it’s good to have a dream, but to boast with such little accomplishment? He’s gotta be kidding.

no avatar

“#76 isn’t really success” riiiight. and what is? top ten? #1? a grammy award? a million albums sold when 999999 is fail? let’s just be real…you won’t ever be pleased with whatever they do or achieve because you simply don’t like them. end of story. BUT, the more you talk shit about how they have no chance whatsoever, and how they are total failures, the sweeter it is for us fans when they go and prove you wrong. so go on and run your mouths, but be prepared to eat your words later on. btw usher’s song “papers” debuted at #92. so i guess by your definition the song sucks balls and is total fail…

bubblebee's avatar

@34 totally agree
that’s all i wanna say

jamjam's avatar

76th may not seem like a big deal to you guys but it is. I remember all these haters saying how Wonder Girls would only survive a few days in America. LOOK WHO’S LAUGHING NOW. IT’S JYP.
