JYP: I Want to Sell Wonder Girls Clones in China

Wonder Girls KPOP Korean Music

Park Jin Young woke up a couple of mornings ago, and realized, SM Entertainment is monopolizing the Chinese music industry with Super Junior-M, who have sold thousands of CD's to date. Never a man to admit defeat, JYP sent his little divas into the cloning machine and zapped out a whole new group: The Chinese version of Wonder Girls!

At an entertainment event, he stated that this group is being trained and will debut in China in the near future.

I know China with it's billion plus Chinese people sounds like a giant market too lucrative to ignore, but a quick stroll on a typical street would make this abundantly clear: no one buys legit music over there. While boy groups like DBSK and Super Junior have at least their loyal fan bases who are willing to shell out their allowances for over-priced goods, a girl group will definitely not fare as well.

It looks like Wonder Girls 2.0's future is going to be about as bright as an average London morning: gray and depressing.

what was he thinking? it would be better if he did not clone another WG,
it would be better if he just trained another girls and not name it as
a wonder girls version in china, what was on his mind

Will they be a complete clone, or merely share similarities with the original WG?  For instance, will the Chinese group be allowed to have talent?

@ambasa

Do you happen to live under a rock or something or are you just uneducated? China’s middle class is estimated to be near 300 million depending on how you crunch the numbers. That’s about the size of the population in the U.S. and it is more than Korea and Japan’s population combined - just to put it in perspective.

China’s GDP is now second in the world, and it is set to surpass the U.S. by 2030. Shanghai is arguably the most advanced city in the world since the government actually invests in infrastructure, unlike status-quo America with its second-tier infrastructure. China is already in the process of pouring billions of dollars into modernizing more cities. In just a few decades, China’s growth has become the fastest in the history of capitalism.

China’s on the rise, America’s on the decline. You better get used to the idea that China’s going to be the next superpower very soon, and that means consumer power.

shanghai advanced city in the world? HELL NO (I’ve lived there for 3 years). Superpower? no, but definitely a manufacturing giant. look, I tell it how I see it, and no offence really; outside of hong kong sucks donkey dick.

pfft if you define middle class as making 3000 or more than yes 300 million would qualify. But theres a huge income gap, thats why the average income in China is around $1000. Compare that to South Korea, Japan, and USA ($30,000 - $40,000). It’s going to pass the US GDP but it should with 4x the population. China still has a long way to go.

Also shanghai isnt the most advanced city in the world. The skyline is everchanging in China (Shenzen, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Nanjing) but far from the most advanced city. You have great views in Hong Kong from Victorias Peak but if you just walk around in Hong Kong compared to Tokyo, I would consider Tokyo to be the most advanced city in the world.

it might be easier to enter and remain in the chinese market by training a chinese group to sing and perform translated WG songs as well as original material than getting the WGs to cross over…

And how long ago did you even live in Shanghai? Shanghai has changed dramatically in a matter of years. There are numerous articles all over the net about its advancement. If it’s not the most modern city to you, it is the known as the most rapidly modernizing/globalizing city in the world.

Not a Superpower? Wow man, do you not keep up with international news? What YOU see is not what world leaders, economists, investors see. They all see China is going to be the next superpower. That’s why you see U.S. corporations scrambling to China hoping to get a piece of the pie, specifically during the times of the Olympics.

Even Mccain, as dumb as he is, has acknowledged that China WILL be the next superpower very soon. Sorry to burst your bubble. I know the truth hurts.

look guys, it’s true China still has a long way to go, but someone to suggest that no one in China can afford luxury items was just too condescending.
Let’s keep that discussion for a serious forum, this is entertainment.

lol did i hurt someone’s feelings? suck it up, .12222/3 china is crap. the people with money/taste are in hong kong. i don’t care if china is going to be a superpower (why the hell did you even bring it up lol) i hope not everyone from the mainland is as think-headed and a blind-nationalist as you.

Well, huge income gaps come with the system of Capitalism. U.S. is the most unequal if you want to talk about income inequalities.

Yes, China does have ways to go but they are doing it at a faster pace than anyone in HISTORY. They only started opening up trade with the rest of the world during the late 1970s and they have progressed this much whereas other advanced countries took much longer.

The fact that someone can’t understand the correlation between superpower + consumption power = money to purchase music, is pretty sad. That’s why I brought up ‘superpower.‘I’m sorry you failed to make the connection.

Anyways, whatever your opinion of China is, let’s not speak in condescending attitude in regards to the economic situation in China. Backlash is inevitable.

That’s all. Good luck to JYP’s endeavors.

Good luck to the Wonder Girls.

Hey ambasa, Please go back to your rock, now, dear.
No one really wants to listen to someone ignorant enough to say people in China can’t afford luxury. What else can you make up on the spot? Ever considered politics?
Internet gives people crazy amounts of confidence, being pretty much ‘invisible’ and all.
Anyways, this is ABOUT THE ARTICLE! I’ll give them a chance. Let’s just hope JYP chooses some TALENTED people!
Especially since he chose to go with a GIRL group and because the majority of China doesn’t really focus on entertainment as much as Taiwan or Korea. Not to say boys don’t need to be talented, but, admit it, even the screechy voiced ones (as long as they are cute) make it big!

well I think china will support the 2.0 version of wondergirls much better if he makes one in each Asian countries for all male fans to enjoy.. I’ll buy a yoobin and sohee clone, much better if he just made wondergirls perform and do albums in china so I wouldn’t be torn appart and see my girls dance it out in china
wonder girls fighting!!! anti do what ever you like or maybe just go suck up and melt into pieces with lollipops in your right hand
