It’ll be Raining at the Beijing Olympics
19 CommentsDe La Methode in News | 16 Jan 2008 - 02:42 PM

Earlier we reported that Rain was thinking about singing the theme song for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Despite other sites reporting rumors to the contrary, it has been confirmed that Rain has accepted the role of singing the Samsung Olympic theme song. The selection of a Korean Pop Singer over a Chinese singer is being questioned by many people, but Rain has always had a great relationship with China. With the movie Speed Racer due out in worldwide movie theatres very soon, coupled with this new role at the Olympics - he hopes to boost his international stature. Rain is also in the negotiation stage of appearing in another Hollywood movie this year. With his stardom back in Korea perceived by some to be waning somewhat, he hopes this will help boost it back up to where it was near it's peek.
Like I've pondered before, I'm wondering if this means Rain has to sing in Chinese? I could already imagine million's of Chinese complaining that a foreigner with a bad chinese accent is singing their Olympic anthem... But, I don't blame him for taking the opportunity presented before him. In his eyes, it can only be a plus as it will increase awareness of him... although I'm not sure if Koreans want people to know about him. Let's just hope he doesn't embarrass us too much. If the song is half as good as the pimp classic "Hand in Hand" (sang at the 1988 Seoul Olympics - see video below) then we don't have to worry at all.

Like I said before, the only Korean who should even be considered to sing at the Olympics should be æŽçޖ哲 (Nicky Lee). His Chinese singing is perfect.

o-m-g. i hope they make it clear that rain isn’t chinese when the rest of the world is watching. and i hope rain has some decency to practice his ass off and pay some money for a top-of-the-line chinese tutor. that or he should just live in china for the next 6 months. -_-

Rain is the type who would practice his ass off. =/ Even if the practicing may not work, he will, which is part of the reason why I like him. The work ethic.
Although, of course, if I were the one making the choices, I wouldn’t really have a Korean sing a Beijing Olympics theme. I’d pick someone that can actually REPRESENT Beijing, because Rain would actually represent…Korea. O_o
I’m happy that he’s singing it though, simply because I’m a fan. (:

Just Good Luck. Oh please Rain do a good job…Because I don’t want to tell my friends that I quit being Korean for a day because of him. Thanks for your consideration. ^_^

ok, this is he isn’t he shiznit it getting really annoying and unneccessary. someone just sing the opening tune for the frickin olympics and let’s start winning some gold.
and honestly, bi will pretty much do anything to get his face plastered over the media. so let’s all just realize that and move on.

Why a KOREAN singer get involved in this OLYMPIC anyway? It’s the Beijing Olympic, let’s some chinese singer does it. Why ?

As much as I love Rain I dont think he should be singing it. Im not Korean or Chinese but…hmmmm I just think they should get Jay Chou to do it or someone else. Kinda doesnt seem right for him to sing it.

Rain’s not singing AT the Beijing Olympics. He will only be recording the theme song for Samsung which is a sponsor FOR the Beijing Olympics.
