Idol Groups Disrespect Moon Hee Jun

Moon Hee Jun KPOP Korean Music

It seems like the drama of this year's MKMF absolutely refuses to disappear. Netizens are buzzing about the various idol groups' reactions when Moon Hee Jun received the MKMF 10th anniversary commemorative award on behalf of the ancestor of boy bands, H.O.T.

Fancams of Moon Hee Jun's acceptance of the award surfaced on the internet recently. The video showed that none of the idol groups stood up other than the elder statesman of the new generation of artists, DBSK. The rest of the idol groups just clapped nonchalantly in their seats. Netizens are angry at the disrespect shown to Moon Hee Jun, because it is an established fact that without H.O.T., these idol groups wouldn't be anywhere near where they are today.

Netizens are split into two camps on this issue, some are saying that idol singers have grown increasingly impolite, that in any other fields people would not dare to be so disrespectful to a sunbae (senior) of 13 years. While others seem to think that the reactions are a bit too intense, and that the idol groups certainly respect their sunbaes, that they just don't show it properly.

What a shame! I feel that this is quite inexcusable, I mean even in Hollywood, when someone like Harrison Ford goes up to the stage, the whole audience stand up. If they can show that much respect in the U.S., they certainly should in Korea. It's not the first time that someone suggested that proper etiquette is disappearing in the KPOP world, does this prove that they're right?

Check out Moon Hee Jun's acceptance speech: (video credit: dreySJ13)

post the vid that you saw up, this one shows nothing. anyways, pretty sure they didn’t mean to make that impression that they don’t care, so just to be more optimistic, i’ll take the latter reason.

DBSK is always very polite and humble ...
some idol groups really need to learn from DBSK as these idol gps are laughing and insulting sunbaes in other shows.. that’s bad !!!

OK, DBSK and Moon HeeJun are from the same company. But this doesn’t change the fact that other singers were disrespectful.

@KuKKIEZ: Have u seen the video yet? SHINee gave MHJ the trophy so obviously, they were standing ON THE STAGE LMAO

JaeLolliPOP~'s avatar

No, not because they are from the same label.
They’re always respectful. Most polite group ever.
And they are HUGE fans of H.O.T

no avatar

I think this is more of a problem of conceptions of idol groups in general, not just HOT.  Even among current idol groups - I wouldn’t be surprised if Big Bang, Wondergirls, etc. didn’t put themselves in the same category.

My point is, it’s not their faults.
But how great that DBSK stood up.

They should STAND UP. Show respect to people who got the award.
So disrespect of them, only stand up not that they are going to lose anything.
People these days *sigh*

i don’teven know who MJH is but if he’s one of the reason’s why Big Bang,DBSK,SUJU..etc. exists..despite that scary photo of themm
i’ll still be standing..
Korean are that sensitive about this huh?
well they must really value senority..

And people call SNSD disrespectful…
I guess all Idols now are like that…
But DBSK are such good role models idols these days should learn from them… Like how Shinee is..

Hee Jun’s a good dude. I bet if the other members of HOT were there, he’d invite them all up. Eh, it’s probably just because no one in Korea likes him. Which is stupid. HOT did a great thing for the world of Korean Music - they took it outside of Korea. After they broke up - so did everyone else. That’s when KPOP kinda of died out. We lost HOT, SES, Sechskies, and FinKL (yeah there are others, I know). I see that Wonder Girls will be getting this award in the future. You can say that they’re bringing it back to life. Hopefully JYP falls off a building by then. Damn monkey.

thats really mean of them not to stand up and clap though.
its pure common sense and politeness.

I think DBSK stood up to every elders which is a motion controlled by leader-shi Jung Yunho (just to cover their bases.)  I asked the xyz groupies why they didn’t stand up and their response was “we’ve fallen down and we couldn’t get up.”

you’re comparing Harrison Ford and him? Maybe you should compare someone like Justin Timberlake. If Justin were to go up on stage to receive an award for being in NSYNC, i HIGHLY DOUBT that other bands or artists are going to stand up and ferociously clap their hands.

H.O.T are such legends, they deserve every ounce of respect from their juniors!
Indeed, TVXQ have many times said to be one of the most polite and respectful groups out there. they didn’t stand up just because they are from the same label but because all though the years they’ve always looked up to H.O.T

This may be not be a big of a deal for some people but then it gives you a glimpse of what these idol groups are made of. I mean c’mon at least they should know proper courtesy. It’s not even that hard! XD

I actually saw one fancam where DBSK were standing and clapping while others were seated. I was confused as to why they were doing that, lol… then maybe after 10/15 secs others followed standing.. the funny thing is that they were even first to take a seat rather than DBSK who has been standing longer.. Though i can’t find that fancam now. XD

And another thing that shows DBSK and SHINee’s humility is when they went on stage after the awards show to bow to the audience while others were in a hurry to go home and celebrate. LOL

It’s called respect. He is a senior and the least that they could do is stand up and ackknowledge it. And yeah, simple acts like bowing and standing up DOES NOT take a lot of effort. I think the Netizens are right about this matter. Idol groups nowadays need to shape up. Good job on DBSK though, this shows that they’ve always remained humble and respectful even as they get more and more famous.

their not under the same company, Moon didn’t even renew his contract after the disbandment of H.O.T in 2001 i believe. Its been 7 years, and to say that they’re only standing up because they were once in the same company is retarted. Its called RESPECT, MANNERS, and being POLITIE. But i guess for fans to respect artists, their idols should start first.

Its not an understatement to say that H.O.T was responsible for Heres something that you people might care about, you know all the crap about balloon colors/items representing your artist? Well it wouldnt exist if it wasnt for H.O.T because their FC started the trend when they decided to use White balloons to show their love and support. That was more then 10 years ago. Im betting that most people now a days dont know a thing about what H.O.T had accomplished and done for the idol groups, and how they opened up the road for those future groups. Whatever, i was already dissapointed with groups these days so i wasnt shocked by this news.

Dbsk has been known to show respect to their elders and their fans. It’s not something unusual. And no, Moon Hee Jun is not under the same label as DBSK. He didn’t renew his contract. So to say that they are only standing because they’re under the same company is quite silly, considering also their long history of being called respectful and polite by other artists.

H.O.T is the reason why boybands are so highly admired by their fans in Korea, and it’s crazy how people are forgetting that. Honestly, H.O.T started it all for these current idol groups. The least they could do is show some respect. It may not seem like a big deal to others, but when you look at the bigger issue, it is.

It’s quite silly stripping DBSK of the acknowledgment they now have, even if it’s just for standing and applauding. I wasn’t surprised that DBSK stood up and applauded. They’ve always done that and they’ve always showed modesty and humility. Honestly, I don’t put them under the same category as the current idol bands. Just because they started way before groups like WG and Big Bang came in. That’s why I think it’s ridiculous how people are comparing them to other groups. H.O.T was the most influential band of their time, just as DBSK was the most influential idol group of theirs. And then there will be a time when other groups like BB or whatever get their fame.

It’s dissapointing when people strip away the recognition some other artists have. Moon Hee Jun deserves every ounce of respect, especially from these idol groups.

Why do people question DBSK’s standing up for H.O.T.? Like others said, they could just be polite and respectful, or maybe because they really admire H.O.T. I don’t know about for each individual member of DBSK, but I’ve heard multiple times about how at least Junsu seriously respects H.O.T. And not that I think the celebs shouldn’t have shown more respect for a band like H.O.T., but sometimes it’s not intuitive to stand up. Like people will always stand up for their friends or sunbaes that they personally know, but unfortunately this isn’t always the case for a recognized band, even if they did pave the way for them.

no avatar

pfft. many ppl in the entertainment biz do actually claim as dongbang the most polite. they keep bowing to their elders. sometimes, i think overpolite. you should see them during a live radio show. when someone enters the room, they all immediately stands up and bow-bow-bow.

oh please!!! moon hee jun is not a legend on his own, he is a legend for being a member of a boy band. he is nothing without his other H.O.T. members.  i wouldn’t stand up for him either if he was alone, if he was with H.O.T, then i would stand. everybody stood up for insooni last mkmf because she is actually a legend as a solo artist.

btw, you cannot compare harrison ford and moon hee jun.

i think it also has to do with the fact that moon hee jun is ugly and fat.

no avatar

..netizens have nothing better to do.

@.... just to let you know ballons wasn’t a song of H.O.T

I personally think that everyone in that little artist stand thing should have stood up because H.O.T opened the door for them to be who they are today. It is nice to know there are people who have respect left in the Korean music industry.
