Harisu Says No to Sucide

With the recent suicide of former President Roh Moo Hyun, Korea's most famous transgender celebrity, Harisu, has reached out to prevent suicides among transgender talents. Harisu said "I wish that there will be no more transgender suicides" and opened a transgenger club.

On the 13th, 'Mix-Trans Club' was established. Recently, there were two up and coming transgender entertainers, one known as the "Harisu Part 2," Jang Chae Won, and another up and comer who had a 'coming out' and received such severe backlash, Kim Jihoo, both committed suicide. Harisu said, "My heart was broken upon hearing the news of the suicides of my friends and colleagues. I wanted to make a beautiful place for people to come together after coming out and suffering the same pain."

So far Harisu's collected a small group of 20 members to create the 'Mix Trans' performance group.

It's a very nice thing Harisu is doing for the twenty some people in the biz... but who will do anything about for the former presidents and other straight, one-gender celebs? Where is their club?

@19- omg I love the book Luna! it made me cry it was really well written.
@46- that’s a bit harsh. You don’t have to agree with what he decided to but SHE is not being selfish. Gays, Lesbians, and Transgenders are easily the MOST attacked group of people despite being HUMAN like everyone else. In fact considering that Harisu is willing too help people with this serious problem before anyone you consider “appropriate” or
“right” destroys your argument. She knows what it is like to be hated but she is still proud to be who she is, more people need to be like her in Korea and just say NO to suicide.

XEEREEX's avatar

I would prefer to see those sick trans commit suicide instead of seeing others committing suicide.
I never knew Korea has so many trans. Ewww…

Please respect my opinion. Don’t need to attack me cause i won’t change my opinion anyway.

no avatar

That’s a good thing for her to care about others.
She did only for transgenders bcos she knows that they’re attacked the worst by society.
I don’t care whether she’s a transgender or whatever.
Personally, from my religious view it’s wrong.
But she’s not me n i’m not her so i hv no right to say crap about her.
She ‘s also human…
I feel kinda bitter everytime i see how people treat homosexuals n transgenders…..T.T

“I would prefer to see those sick trans commit suicide instead of seeing others committing suicide”

-how could you say that?!..

I think that’s a great thing she’s done.  I mean, it’s hard enough to have to live within a society that vilifies who you happen to be and how you chose to live your life.  But it’s equally as hard if not more difficult to be the pioneer in making the world a better place for people to accept them for who they are - Human Beings.

Perhaps in Korea there really is no safe outlet for people who are transgendered or homosexual to go.  Would you be comfortable talking about your problems to someone who really hasn’t experienced first hand of what you are going through?

Clearly those who have voiced negative comments aren’t in the minority but I also gather probably haven’t spent much time with someone who is transgendered or homosexual to know what they have to go through on top of everything else.

Harisu, I applaud you. *applause*

I don’t feel sorry for Satan’s work and hypocrite people.
It’s amazing how people get mad when someone dislike homos, but at the same time you see them calling some artist/singer ugly.
I also believe that people should respect others opinion.
I always respect others opinion and i wish that others could respect mines too.
Since it’s a topic, you can’t expect everyone to agree.
There will be always some people who agree and disagree on something.

That’s the way it is.

How awesome, it’s good to see SOMEONE try to help others. I hope the rest of the country takes in the example and start lending out help to everyone, not just trans. Very cool

and uh…they’re wayyy hotter than me and now I feel insignificant haha XD

At least she’s doing something which is more I can say for Korea.  Image and saving face is more important than dealing with the problem.  Time for Korea to step up and have outreach programs.

It’s funny how people think in function of their society. I find it REALLY funny to see stupid people, who are absolutely NOT PERFECT AT ALL, giving themselves the right to judge and give a murderous opinion of sexually different people. I myself am gay, and in my society, THE GREAT MAJORITY doesn’t judge it, and I can have friends of any orientation, because it is fundamentally agreed here that the sexual defferent behaviours are part of the human nature, and even the animals close to us like monkeys have homosexual behaviours. Diversity is what nature is, people tend to forget that we come from nature. Come on you won’t kill all the gays on the planet, so get over it! I can agree that transgenders are not usual, but it’s as normal as you, because what you consider normal depends on the society you live in. so what is really TRUE IN FACT? The opinion of Normality is really subjective. 1/3 of americans are OBESE. not fat, OBESE. and all across asia, it is NOT NORMAL at all to be like this. you should just accept that we are part of a world where differences are predominant. they live their life, live yours.

I really don’t understand why Korea’s suicide rate is so high =/ People say those that are willing to take their own life are strong & have courage, but I think their cowards for being unable to face what life has thrown at them so they decide to run away from it all. *sigh* I don’t want to disrespect those that have passed on but I really do find suicide as pathetic.

59, Of course i’m not perfect, that’s why i have all the right to show others that they are not perfect either.
No matter what you say, my opinion won’t change.
Wish you a good life.

I dont understand why so many ppl say these ‘oh so nice of her?’ type comments.  Obviously on the web, its easier to say that. I wouldnt be surprised if ppl who make those positive comments are the exact opp when they see trans.  The hypocrisy on the net.
And ppl need to understand that asian cultures generally dont accpet gender chg as openly as the west. Its like a innate way of thinking ingrained into asians.

Those who are voicing their distaste for transgender or homosexuals, you all are hypocrites.  I bet the majority that have this view are hard core, religious zealots who rely on their so called Bible to tell them how life should be lived.  This God or whoever you worship will not sink to your level of thinking.  They have a higher thinking and reasoning power than humans will ever hope to understand and they would not share your opinion. This “bible” you hold dear was written by human hands that was passed down to the present.  How do you really know that what you’re seeing in the bible came straight from God?  Do you have any concrete proof? This bible was used by humans to oppress so many people throughout history it’s sickening and still happening today.  Do you “Christians” not remember Jesus and how he lived his life? He loved everybody even those who were deemed unfit or sinful to everyone else.  It’s ironic that he died because of religion.  Religion does nothing but divide people and breeds hatred.  That is what causes people to commit suicide, because so-called “Christians” or other religious zealots have no understanding or compassion for anyone other than themselves.  People like that is what’s causing this world to fall apart!

And I’m as homophobic as you can get.  But to wish them death for disagreeing with you sexually, but then ask for respect for disagreeing with us?  You’re a moron, and you should be fearing God more than satan, you dipstick.

@ XEEREEX and other religious haters

What you’re doing isn’t merely stating your opinion. It’s gone even further and reached prejudice and hate for people you don’t even know.
I’m assuming because you said it was “Satan’s work” that you’re at least somewhat leaning towards religion on this matter.
So I’ll assume you’ve never eaten any “unclean foods” like catfish, clams, crabs, squid, lobster, or shrimp. And you’ve also never worn any clothes that have blended fabric. It’s all 100% wool or 100% cotton for you.  You’ll also never even touch a woman who has been married before, or never paid interest on anything. I also suppose if you’re a man and your future/present wife cheats on you, you’ll gather up your friends and stone her to death.

Because all of these are ABOMINATIONS in the bible, exactly the same as homosexuality.

If you do follow these, good for you. I applaud you on your effort. Because I grew up in the church, and I could never find myself to avoid that delicious shrimp.

@XEEREEX I wasn’t trying to change your mind, because I know a hateful and stubborn person like yourself wouldn’t care even if you read my comments. Like you even said yourself, I was merely expressing my own opinions myself. I feel sorry for you if you think just because my comment was long that that means I’m sitting here dripping tears on my keyboard while I write out a proposition to try and change your mind. Forget that. You, individually, aren’t worth trying to change. My goal was to express my own opinions just using you as an example of the type of person I disapprove of. But you will never know what my intentions were, will you, since you don’t bother reading anyone’s comments except for your own. Since you won’t read any of my comments anyway, I guess I can call you an ignorant, selfish, and hypocritical human being that probably has so much hate for transgenders because 1. if you are a girl, you’re butthurt that they’re prettier than you, or 2. if you’re a guy, you’re butthurt because all the so-called “real” girls you’ve gotten with (or haven’t gotten with) aren’t as pretty as these transgender women.

I find transgender or gay etc. disgusting and gross no matter how pretty or handsome their appearance are. But wishing them to “commit suicide” is so evil.Every human life is precious, I could never understand how someone could said something like that, may be that person with so much bitterness or hatred is someone who suffered a lot in their life, that he or she sees everything with hate. I saw people who suffered abuse or being picked on by the other kids have that kind of personality. hmmm…..........,make me wondering.

Korea is such a hush hush society when it comes to dealing with people who are going through depression/mental illness. Something need to be done to openly educate and aware people of it. Harisu is taking the first steps within her power.

People like you…Satan’s work my as$.  She is human, and if you are incapable of seeing her as one, then we are incapable of seeing you as human. People with minds like you are the true poison and scum of society.

“Average IQ by religion in the USA. Study conducted by Harvard.

I think instead of members of the LGBT community, this ZEEREEX should go commit suicide instead. One thing that bothers me so much is not being able to feel empathy for other people. Regardless of whether you think being trans is wrong or not, when you see someone in so much pain that they want to commit suicide and you don’t feel anything, then you have truly lost your humanity.

XEEREEX's avatar

And who told you i’m religious? Just because i’ve mentioned Satan doesn’t mean i belong to a religion.
About committing suicide, why should i care if a trans commit suicide? One less.
I don’t hate them. Why should i hate them? They haven’t done anything to me.
I simply find them disgusting.

this whole argument brought up on here is ridiculous we r supposed 2 be happy at least someone is addressing suicide unlike the government of Korea is doing…whether u agree with GBLT or u agree with religion or the Bible at least someone is trying to reach out to people that need help…...im christian myself i dont necessarily agree with GBLT but i would never wish any harm on anyone or want people to kill themselves because of their sexual, cultural, or w.e differences thats just sick and cruel i wish people would wake up a bit and treat people like people regardless of what they are..i have tons of gay friends and they are all cool people because i see past what they are and get to know them….and people that think that other people should kill themselves because of their sexual orientation thats just so inhumane

OHH 82. Joe I read those stats somewhere…I heard on the radio that highest IQ religion (in the world) was shinto buddhist, then buddhists then atheists, then jews then I forgot the rest of the ranking….Although I’m not religious I sometimes feel religion can make you a little narrow minded and judgments clouded by religion(like my friend who doesn’t believe in dinosaurs bcause they weren’t mentioned inthe bible). No offence I know heaps of religious people who aren’t assholes like some here. but while a transgender has the brains to actually do something that is beneficial to helping others, NORMAL people in Korea only know how to ignore these problems then tell people to suck it up when people face problems and depression.

no avatar

What a “nice” move, people…
Defending transgender by dissing others’ religion.
It’s not like only people with certain religion that hate transgender,
but also people who have none.
XEEREX said satan’s work doesn’t mean she/he is religious.

no avatar

I really hate those who think they are so politically correct that they have to attack other people’s religions to get their point across.  Wrong, you are just as obnoxious as those self righteous bigoted people that you hate.  People can have differing opinions.  Do you really think that by putting down the bible and the people who worship a God makes you a better person than others.  Nope, you’re just as narrow minded as them because you express hate for people that have faith and assume they base their opinions on what the church or the bible tells them.  people are capable of forming their own opinions.  And if they think trandgender and homosexuality is wrong then it’s their opinion.  Let them live their lives and you live your own.

If we are entitled to our own opinions..there are people who hate/disagree with trangenders. But why are we comparing it with religion? You can choose what you want/don’t want to believe in. But you cannot change whether or not you are gay or find yourself in the body of a gender not belonging to you. Isn’t this at a biological level? A homosexual’s brain make up is different to that of a straight male. Trangenders who were born men have female brain components—since the mind it more powerful than the body, naturally they need to change the body to suit the mind, we can’t take people’s brains out. People saying it’s “wrong” to be transgender or gay is like people saying it’s wrong to be born short/ tall/ black/ white/male/female. They didn’t chose to be what they are. They just are. Human.
