BoA KPOP Korean Music

BoA is planning to release her first american single, Eat you up for digital downloads available on iTunes on October 7th. Based off the teaser, there's been mixed reviews on the song but for the most part it's been pretty positive. A few negative words won't bring her down, but...

BoA fell down a staircase and broke her arm the day of her American Debut press conference on September 10th. BoA says that despite the injury everything is still on schedule, so expect the album drop on November 11th.

Go Go BoA! I'll make sure to download the single October 7th and show my support.

mmm i dont really like the whole concept of asian singers coming to america and debuting here.. idk why. just represent your country cause like, if you do bad in another country it just looks bad and then you have other ethnic people telling you that your original country’s music sucks.. so she.. better do well.

well, the song is nothing special. it was produced by a group, who does songs mainly for pop acts as britney spears, spicegirls etc. all big name stars… and that’s where the problem starts. the songs sounds just as any song britney would sing X_X. nothing to make BoA special.

Other than that i still think the song is catchy, but not unique. that doesn’t mean she’ll fail. depends on luck and how smart they promote her. but since SM is a massive company, they have the power and money to do that well.

looking forward to how well she’ll be received smile

Hurray! For mediocre music! (Everything nowadays sounds the same)

Good luck BoA and be very careful. Whitey doesn’t want us colored folk to make achievements. So he’ll do anything to stop it.

How many korean artist are trying to get success in US?

I’m wondering what is the target they aim to touch on this market
, because you know they have to be at least at the same level of the artist over there, and what is the most important it’s to bring something new in the music industry.

From what i see at the moment they all try to copy american market,
and you know can imitate but it’s hard to duplicate,
and it’s so true for them, it maybe looks the same but don’t have the taste.

Instead i which they can bring something new like the korean touch you know,
like the french touch in electro music.

But we will see, i’m just waiting to see the strategy under all those efforts, cause they are greedy for big market, through US the world.

Good Luck BoA! I’ll be downloading the single when it comes out. I’m excited but a bit nervous. I think more Asian music should be introduced in America but the audience over here is hard to appeal to.
Hopefully her English is top notch or close to it. That’s something I’m worried about.
Waiting to see what SM has under their sleeve.

Hey, what about the white musicians who come to Korea or elsewhere in Asia to debut and succeed, even though some of them are mediocre? There’s still a misperception in both East and West that somehow Western arts and entertainment are better than Eastern, so the Western singers and actors are accepted more positively (or, even, too positively) than their Asian counterparts that has nothing to do with their artistic merits. It’s simply the world has been brainwashed to think that everything Western is superior to the rest, just because the West has been technologically and economically more advanced, but East has been catching up fast and will get its long overdue respect in its pop culture as well.

@ low ryder: That’s a total bs. You’re trying to apply picky standard of judging to Korean musicians which you don’t to the British musicians whom the Americans have welcomed because they are white and speak English. So, let’s get to the ppoint and acknowledge that European-Americans are too bigoted to accept Asian entertainers even when they are as good as their American counterparts. The K-pop singers ARE bringing Korean touch to the American market and it’s up to the American audience to parctice what they preach about being open-minded and looking past race when judging the K-pop singers who try to break into the American market.

what does china have to do with anything? anyways i think some people in charge of the american media see asians as the biggest threat (east asian countries are all amongst the highest in IQ, life expectancy, and now wealth. leading the way in technology (japan korea taiwan). so they dont want to see asians succeed over here in america.

I don’t know whether I’d agree with Proud Chinese’s assertion ofn the Chinese economy, but maybe the Korean musicians should focus on gaining more popularity in China and other Asian countries, instead of trying so hard to please and be accepted in America where they aren’t really welcomed by the racist white majority. I mean, why bother? If they won’t like you, no matter how good or how much you try, you’re not gonna succeed here.

Actually, I think you can compare this more to Latinos who have crossed over from Spanish language music to English language music. One of my favorite artist Shakira barely spoke any English before she began planning to make an American album. Other arists like Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, and Marc Anthony became popular during this “Latin explosion” in the 90s. Well, maybe this is the time for an “Asian invasion.“ ^^

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_intelligence#Caste-like_minorities Asians are considered on the High Caste/Status Position in America, because Asian Americans make the highest salaries and highest test scores. But in the media, Asians are the lowest. Anglo’s dont want to have Asians be high in both areas.

agreed with bobacious. its koo that allkpop giving propz to BoA

but the majority of the US critics i’ve been reading are hitting BoA hard mainly b/c she doesn’t have enough sex appeal or doesn’t have anything sexy about her to carry her to the states (Perhaps some breast implants will do! haha) they even quoted either be cute like miley or sexy like britney…so yea..BoA’s gettin bad reviews despite the single even drops.

Boa is a kickass performer and she has talent even though I don’t really like her voice all that much. It’s just pretty hard for an Asian to break into the American music scene overall. I would’ve loved it if she had her Korean comeback before all of this.

her voice is terrible. ;\ Tasha, Younha, etc are better singers than her.

Boa’s an okay dancer for a girl.

.. it’s like Bi. Good dancer, bad vocals.

she will fail. not because she lacks talent, but because mainstream america is not ready, or willing, to accept her.
& compared to spanish, italian or british accents, asian accents are not that ‘attractive’. sorry i don’t know it thats the right word to use.
but we do need more asian pop culture icons, i just don’t think boa will be it.
OT, but i think america is moving in the right direction. 2 (mostly) asian groups won an MTV dance competition. so who know what will happen in the future.

people just stop downing things because other people are. if you truly believe she’ll do well without the influence of others then you should cheer her on and not think about the american audience. think about how many people are in America first, then think about the diversity of personalities and cultures in America, and THEN tell people what the American audience thinks. please. I’ve gotten over doing that to new debuting artists from another country and you should do that too. I really hope BoA is successful and i wish her the best. she can dance and she CAN sing. if she couldn’t, then i’m pretty sure she wouldn’t even be in SM. SM artists are talented, one way or the other…actually in many ways. anyways, again i wish her the best. see it’s not that hard. =D(yes you have to mean it too.)

Totally agree w/ steviewonder06. Not everyone in the US is a closed-minded racist. “The US doesn’t like / want Asian singers omg” As long as you have that mentality, Asians won’t get anywhere. If you truly believe in her, then support her for god’s sake! If people hate, let them hate. I think BoA can pull it off, and if she doesn’t, then so what? She’ll learn from her mistakes and come back as a better artist (that’s probably what Utada Hikaru is doing). Somebody’s gotta pave the way for Asian artists, and I’m tired of waiting. Good luck BoA!
