G-Dragon goes Bohemian, performing with W-inds on Music Japan

G-Dragon goes Bohemian Music Japan

During Big Bang's press conference yesterday at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo, it wasn't much of a surprise about their plans of expanding into the Japanese market. What was surprising, however, was G-Dragon's new Bohemian styled hair. Well, maybe it shouldn't be too surprising considering that G-Dragon isn't too shy when it comes to trying out new eccentric hairstyles. How do you think it looks?

Image

As for the press conference, Big Bang went through the basic motions and said thanked their fans (more than 500 people waited for them at the airport). They also said they would love to one day perform at the NHK Red & White Songfest (where BoA and TVXQ have previously performed on this prestigious stage in Japan). They also said that they're excited to work with Universal Records and announced that the official date of their "My Heaven" single album will be June 24th.

G-Dragon is also scheduled to perform "Rain is Fallin" with W-inds on May 17th's Music Japan show. On last week's Music Japan, "Rain is Fallin" held the number one spot for the week:

Also looks like it achieved first on the Oricon Daily Chart:

Looks like Big Bang is starting to do some Big things in Japan. I think they can be popular in Japan with the right moves, but they would probably need to change their musical style a bit. I wish them the best of luck.

*sigh* GD….I already gave up on you. -____- And Wow. Gackt? When will that man retire? :D

The hairstyle looks so stupid that even GD can’t pull it off. But maybe it will grow on me? If he keeps it long enough.

@99 CHILL. They HOPE to perform at NHK, and what’s wrong with BIG BANG performing at NHK anyways? BIG BANG has great talent too, and yeah they will need to step up a notch to even top the other JE artists, but who says they can’t make it? Hard work and determination is what will let BIG BANG make it to the top, they have to step up with their game, and it’s BIG BANG, we’re talking about here. BIG BANG CAN and WILL make it.
BIG BANG FTW.
P.S. they can speak Japanese too, so with the language they learned & their music, who knows what they have new under their sleeves? =]

They’re not gonna get invited to Kohaku this year, probably not next year either unless they ditch Korea for an entire year.  Korean actors like Ryu Shi Won and Lee Byung-hun are actually doing better in the japanese music scene compared to Big Bang and SS501.  Lee Byung-hun’s last single sold like 38k or something and he was #2 weekly.  Honestly they have a better chance of attending Kohaku than Big Bang right now.

Big Bang is very ambitious to wanting to perform at NHK. the best of luck to Big Bang, although i do feel like their music is a different style for Japan and i absolutely DISLIKE the names they give them to promote in Japan… DLite? Sol? bleh ><
its already an accomplishment for GD to perform with W-INDS who is huge in Japan too~ [i see Tohoshinki on that list too ^___^]

@83
MJ is a recorded program. They can be at 2NE1 debut stage.
I don’t understand why so many people against them debuting in Japan. YG and Universal have their own strategy and plan. We’ll see how well they do. All I can say is good luck and work hard.
About the NHK red&white; show.. Its good to have goals and dreams. Its that wrong? whether they can achieve it in the next couple of years or not.. how about we’ll just wait.

p/s: there’s always pros and cons of not being under J&A. Although its hard for them to get on MSta, but they’re more likely to appear on other shows like NHK red&white;, JRA, MTVJapan, etc. and I always thought of w-inds not being to MSta was due to the feud between Pony Canyon and J&A

I’m surprised about share the world.  It’s like 4 weeks old, they usually drop like a rock after 2 weeks (if they’re lucky).

Yep2.. I do hope that they do well in Japan… and have decent sales at least.. but I go agree at @104.. they need to focus more on Japan if they wanted to get invited to Kohaku.. They need to put down their popularity in Korea aside and promote heavily in Japan.. Also, in order to get invited, their singles should be gold record and the song should be an instant hit.  I think they need more years in order to get invited.
But on the sidenote!. I do think their focusing on Japan more this year and doubt to release an album in Korea.. Hope they will gain more experience and grow more musically..

@109 you shouldn’t be surprise dear.. TVXQ are already big in Japan plus share the world had zero promotions yet it reached 100,000 sales just in 2 weeks.. even their albums and dvds are still charting and going strong and dont forget the TOKYO DOME..*sighs* these boys are just amazing..

now back to the topic: Hope Big Bang will do well in Japan.. and I notice on how they deliver their press conference. It seems that they are seriously concentrating on Japan but it will be hard though but hope they will be ok with it.
TOP is hella hot on that picture.. hehhe

i like GD hairstyle..hahah sooory he looks good . By d way i think BB too weird doing that funny stuff when usually they dont do at korea,acting stupid and funny…maybe they think they need to change a little bit personality compare to THSK they actually same at korea and japan during TV show. but it is a good thing to adjust to their culture. gambatte BB. and it is a good thing to have a goal on kouhaku but i doubt it would be easy ..if they do attend kouhaku this year something must be around and i bet i dont think kouhaku is prestigious anymore…why cuz it is so easy for BB to enter,that is the reason.

I think people are against them coming to Japan because
1) Their music style will have to change koreans and japanese don’t like the same thing
2) You won’t see them in korea as much. (I’m not sure how Daesung will manage family outing with japanese activities.  It’s not a long trip but you just don’t have the time and energy to fly that much)
3) Koreans don’t care about your achievement in Japan
4) Their Japanese suck.  A lot of people go the MC said Taeyang’s japanese is good blah blah blah.  The MC is being polite, i tell that to people who can complete simple sentences.  They’re not fluent.  Unless you know Japanese don’t go spewing out the whole they’re fluent crap. I know japanese, and he has a pretty noticeable accent. His japanese on interview are pretty basic stuff.  They probably don’t understand enough to go on variety shows yet. If they do they’ll just laugh when they don’t understand things and it’ll be awkward.  Try looking at the Grace’s HEYX3 interview.  HORRIBLE.
DBSK’s vocab is bigger and they know more advance stuff, but the members are no where near fluent.  My problem with them is that weaker members at Japanese talk more than the most fluent one and it make me want to claw my ears out.  BoA’s japanese is the only one I can say is fluent, but she still has a freaken accent.

LOL!. Good luck to big bang then.
^@113. WHy the hell is kouhaku not prestigous??? it seems that you are not actually familiar with it. ANd of course BIG BANG still need a long way to go in order to get invited. Trust me dear, it is not easy as you think it would be for BB in order to get invited i Kouhaku. Their singles need to sell at least near to 100,000 sales or their song should be popular to mainstream music not Kpop lovers..

after reading all of the comments here and also on the other bigbang going to japan article, all that I can conclude is… most of dbsk fans are totally arrogant prick. really.. do we need to compare?
don’t hate me.. I’m not a vip nor cassie nor triple s etc. btw. just a normal kpop fan. if anything, to bigbang, good luck for your debut.. and to thsk, good luck for your tour.. and to all kpop artists in/going to japan, good luck on raking more money from japanese people.. peace!

i agree on @arashi^^ ..BB japanese is like kindergarten level they are no where near fluent yet same as THSK they have bigger vocab and basically THSK can say anything that they want but if we rate fluent from 1-5 , THSK is near 4 as a foreigner and BOA is 5. i was laugh so hard when VIP said BB can actually speak JAPANESE fluent…sorry dear they are not for a now….even THSK took 4 years to achieve that level and freaking stay like for 4 years…back and forward korea to japan..but mostly at japan all the time just to be at tokyo dome.

@dae

BAsed on your scale, DBSK would actually be on the 3 level. Their vocabulary is not as expansive as it seems to be since they use the same terms again and again + they’re pretty slow in catching up with Japanese slang unlike BoA.

@113
I don’t know what’s up with kohaku anymore.  Who knows why they invite the people they invite.  Why was last year Mr.Children’s debut there?  They’re so awesome.  Who invited Girls Next Door?  Their sales suck, their album sales were decent, but their album was released after Kohaku’s invitations were sent out.  Their airplay was decent, so I guess that might be the reason.  Who knows anymore.

@118 & 121
That’s a weird way of ranking.
DBSK’s average is a 3.  3 when they’ve been in Japan, less than 3 when they return to Japan after activities in Korea.  Changmin is a 4 or 3.5 though.  Junsu and Yunho though tsk tsk >.< Their pronunciation makes me cringe.
BoA’s is better cause I think she debuted in Japan at 14 or something. You learn languages better when you’re younger.  Of course I don’t think it matters after 7, but younger is better for learning languages.

I think the problem with Big Bang’s Japanese is that they don’t have the opportunity to use it enough.  Try learning a foreign language in classroom, no matter how many year you learn it it’s not going to be as good as if you study abroad.

@ #125
correct me if i’m wrong, but i’m pretty sure you can decline the invitation? like what Mr. Children did in previous years, i think. that’s why last year was their “first”, despite they’re being a HUGE name in japan.
and a lot of people had been wondering about girls next door, too =(
but i don’t live in japan so i don’t know how their popularity going.
anyway, kohaku IS still the most prestigious year-end’s stage, with invitation-only performances.

well i personally like gdragon and i still like his hair and all those different hairstyles he’s been trying on… it all looks good on him though. i bet if some other person went all out with those kind of hairstyles, i think it would look bad….. wow i mean i think he’s like the only celebrity i’ve seen that changes his hair like a 5 times in two months or so. it’s amazing and he can actually pull it off. love you gdragon<3
& ahhhhhhhhhhh, seungri, that was cut baby bib! it matches him and the dance he did at the end was cute as well.

1st i like their korean music style more than the japanese one.
Their japanese songs are just bleh….. Not as good as their korean.
But anyway, in order to make more money they need to invade Japanese market.
Good luck to them. ^^ I can see them do better there.

2nd GD’s hairstyle isn’t cool. It reminds me of some soccer players…. LMAO
N soocer players only do that to their hair on the field not elsewhere.
GD is quite good looking but his hairstyle is sometimes quite annoying.
Just my 2 cents, so hardcore fans don’t need to be too uptight.

Big Bang definately needs to improve their Japanese if they want to get recognized more.
Ryu Shi Won (I’m using him as an example because he is also Korean) is actually selling more than them at this point.
and w-inds… sigh. what happened to them? Im not really sure why they dropped in popularity so much, they used to be pretty big back then.
