Crown J Fly Boy

Crown J, an LA born Korean rapper, has come a long way in his career from being Just another celebrity guest on "X Man" to one of the stars of "We Got Married."

Recently, Crown J was on Yoon Do Hyun's Love Letter where he entered the show with a performance of his new single "Fly Boy". During the performance he pulled out dollar bills with his face on it and threw them all over the stage.

After the performance, Yoon Do Hyun asked Crown J what was different about his style of hip hop and Crown J answered,

"In America, the East is very critical of the raps, while the West is into the scary gangster feeling rap, but the style I am pursuing is the southern style of rap. The lyrics have a positive mindset and you will see that through the expression of my lyrics."

I took a history of hip hop class and I learned that the southern style of rap has very little lyrics and a heavy emphasis on beat. A classic southern hip hop artist is Lil' John and positive is not the first word that pops into my head when I hear his lyrics but you can decide for yourself. Shows how much Crown J knows.

I don't know why he is trying to be something he is not (from the South). When I first heard him say "A" I was so confused but I realized he changed the meaning of "A" from Atlanta to LA... -_-. Crown J is Wankster #1 but I got to admit his songs are catchy as hell. 'Cuz baby I'm so so fly!!!!

Just cause you’re from the South and you use Southern beats, doesn’t meant that message is always gonna be positive.

Wait he’s from LA? I always thought he was from Atlanta because he always did the A down peace sign. Someone should tell him not to wear those military style clothes anymore. That’s so out of fashion like last season.

i aint from America so all this talk of ‘A’ being for Atlanta or LA or whatever don’t mean nothing to me lol, but yeah you can’t hate Crown J i mean the guy is able to put up with SIY and for that i have 100% respect for the guy. And Fly boy is actually pretty catchy just like the ‘too much….A’ song.

I was so confused but I realized he changed the meaning of “A” from Atlanta to LA…

—————————————-

and your still confused. Crown J is referring to ATLANTA! If you saw one of his cyworld videos he even mentions that b/c he made ATL his 2nd U.S. hometown. And crown j isnt from LA hes from South Korea, moved to Colorado when he was a teenager and attended UCLA…gosh do your research before you do a post idiot.

and the south does have positive hip hop. have you heard of the group LITTLE BROTHER?? a duo from north carolina who is all the way positive with their lyrics.

the south is known for its party music such as miami bass (uncle luke and etc) the east is known for its gritty-ness (the birth of hip hop) the west is known for its gangsta rap, the midwest is known for its mixture of east, west and south. look at chicago you have Common who is known as a positive rapper, you have chingy (who is from st. louis) who does that southern style of rap…

where its okay to bite hooks off of musicians in the US.

and Lena Park is right. Compared to East/West coast, Dirty South IS known for the more positive style. LOL @ your “history of hip hop class”, because Lil Jon does NOT equal the rest of the south (and is so 6 years ago). Dude might be fake, but he’s done his research.

Watch BET or something.

I think each region in the U.S. has some positive rap stuff. From most to least:
East > South > West
I find real Southern rap music to have some rock influence (Lil’ John was a great example). The east is more deep while the West is more laid back. Midwest is the most diverse.
Anywho, Crown J just confuses me. I’ve heard he’s from Colorado and then Atlanta and now L.A.? WTF lol

I said I wasn’t coming back here, but the one time I do, I read this foolishness. I’m compelled to comment.

“I took a history of hip hop class”

LOL! So that makes you an expert I suppose? I am seriously ROTFL over here. You sound like Sarah Palin, like how she can see Russia from her house so it makes her a foreign policy expert. Maybe I should take a class on Korean stuff and then try to tell you about your own culture. That is, *if* you’re Korean. LMFAO. Ohhh man, I’m actually embarrassed for you; luckily the average commenter on this site isn’t even intelligent enough to notice your ignorance. Only one other person commented on it, ha. Have fun taking your single-credit college electives at Phoenix University, or whatever school that offers such a pathetic class. Meanwhile, leave the hood music styles to the experts. Folks who actually come from the south. FYI, Crown J was right. The south has a more positive message than the real-life tough stories of the west coast, etc. Even the crappy Bama Rap dance songs from 2006 go to show that. Little ditties about white tees and leaning with it while simultaneously rocking with it… all generically positive. Maybe midwest rap is on par with the message, but they typically lack the beats. Also, LOL @ you calling Lil Jon a classic ANYTHING. Maybe a classic two-hit wonder. A classic grill purchaser. He has a classic hairstyle…  I’m digging here. For classic southern rappers try Pimp C, 8Ball (imo), even T.I. is a living legend! Pssh. I’m done wasting my finger-breath on this.

....wtf do yall know about the South….Crown J is gay…bet that fool never even been to Atlanta, I bet he never even ate at a Waffle House, or been to Kroger, or H-Mart..Everybody just want to rep ATL now cause everybody who is anybody is from the A now. His fake wanna-be ATL swagger just makes him look stupid. Be proud of where your from just cause your from there, don’t pretend your from somewhere your not. If your from Colorado, then rep Colorado.

well there are positive southern rappers for the most part who rap about collard greens and hard times and BBQ’s , don’t forget Rosa Parks by OutKast which is the best song evah….hey folks Crown J is in Korea and who is going to tell him he isn’t doing his thing it’s not like there is an influx of southern born asians that are hard core rap fans telling him what time it is. They wouldn’t know the difference

do u even listen to hip-hop or do u just listen to the music on the radio? if u stay listening to the radio then yea all u r gonna get crap shitted out by dumbasses that everyone thinks is catchy. (ex. soulja boy, v.i.c, young berg, lil wayne, etc.) its just unfortunate coincidence that most of the wack artists come from the south. before you talk about the “hip-hop history class” that you took. go listen to some real hip-hop first.  outkast, scarface, ugk, the clipse, ludacris, old-school Too $hort, are all classic southern artists that are legends in their own right. listen to their music and LYRICS because they got both. if the first artist that comes to mind when someone says “classic southern artist” is lil jon then you dont kno shit about hip-hop and you cant say shit about hip-hop.

Also I don’t know much about hip hop history anyway!! I just like his sounds.

@saemo…
Believe me honey if Diddy was his professor , he would be an asian Mase or would be more east coast in his sound and Diddy don’t play , ya’ll should know that by making the band. He’ll send ur butt packing in a minute if you’re not up to standard.

one more thing sorry…why does he have that coat on , is he saying he’s a soldier , cause Mystikal would say differently.. I’m out that bootcamp click I got my rifle and my rucksack…lol

@Pyehalove

wtf are you talking about kid? i was asking if Diddy was the professor of the “history of hip hop” class that the author of this article took.
and please don’t tell me you’re trying to defend diddy. Diddy don’t play? get off his nuts idiot, diddy’s little show has nothing to do with hip-hop in any way, shape, or form. it’s simply another marketing ploy he uses to promote his little hip-POP groups.

i love it when fcking “Top 40” hip-hop heads try to act like they know a lick about hip-hop. get your shit straight kids

I was actually joking around man. I don’t listen to the top 40’s hip hop. I listen to Jungle Brothers, Tribe called Quest, MJG, OutKast.. ect you know early 80’s to early 2000 stuff.

I was coming from a standpoint saying that if “Diddy” picked him up or taught him anything his sound and persona would be totally different.No need to cuss at me.
