Courageous Eric serving his country (behind a desk)
56 Commentskohkohchanel in News | 05 Sep 2008 - 12:08 AM
Shinhwa fans will have to say goodbye to Eric Mun Jung Hyuk on October 9th where he will go through 5 weeks of the required hardcore basic army training. But due to a suffering of injuries to his body during his filming of "Wolf" back in 2006, he will ever-so-bravely serve his country behind a desk in a nice air conditioned office.
Oh please. Do they really think we're that stupid? It's obvious that a healthy sum of money was slipped under the table to get his pretty face behind that desk. But I'm not complaining, Shinhwa was one of those rare boy bands that actually had talent, so do whatever you can to save yourself Eric. We need more people like you in the sinking world of Kpop.

Hey Song Baekkyoung had back problems and he was exempted-not that I’m dissing Baekky but still at least Eric’s toughing it out, despite being behind a desk…

Yea he’s a’ight I suppose. But, why does South Korea make it mandatory to serve for “pure” Korean males? And why would he give up his US citizenship?

you can’t have a dual citzenship with korea and USA. so he gave up his US citizenship so that he could stay in korea. i say i’ll miss him “/ at least he’s doing it at all. there was that one guy who gave up his korean citizenship just so he didn’t have to go.
besides, i heard the back injury was pretty serious? they had to stop filming…

C’mon, he suffered serious injury for saving Han Ji Min back in 2006… He was even in brace during shinhwa 10th year anniversary concert last march (and no one even noticed that until someone saw him being helped to walk into his car after the concert; he stood on stage and joked around as usual)
He’s not the kind of guy that would use his problem/injury as an excuse to get sympathy or be exempted of his responsibility… he’s actually the kind of guy that would force himself to do what his body can’t do just to make people shut up…
Now if Minwoo gets a desk job, then say anything you want to say and I won’t get offended… *Well, Dongwan is the only child, I think they have a policy on that; and Junjin’s head injury from 2002 (the one where he almost died) is still affecting him even now*

whichever idiot who claims that any other boyband has more talents than Shinhwa, this is where I will put in Big Uppercase Letters:
“IF YOU’RE TOO YOUNG TO EVEN KNOW THE PERSON/GROUP WELL ENOUGH, SHUT THE HELL UP.“

i’m not interested to diss other groups - but i do know that shinhwa wouldn’t have made it through 10 years if they were crap. let’s see if the other 5 boybands that you can name hit 10 years.
*BLEE*
i’m gonna miss him.

@12 - It’s mandatory in most countries that are still technically at war. It was mandatory in the UK also up until the 60’s.

So I dont normally comment because it would fall on deaf ears. You people at allkpop just want to be as rude and abusive as possible. But I feel I have to speak this time because this is outright stupid, for lack of a better word since I’m so pissed at reading your comment that I cant think straight.
If you’ve had back problems, you would understand the pain first of all. Second, he SAVED Han Ji Min’s life in that stunt and has had countless back surgeries. I heard from a friend that saw it with her own eyes that after the anniversary concert, he had to be CARRIED away because of pain. If you watch him on shows, you do see that he favors his back.
To give up his citizenship and serve where he didnt have to is very honorable. Let’s see any of you wanna be men that write for allkpop enlist in your country for 2 years, desk job or not!

shinhwa is legendary but there are a lot of more talented ppl. dun get me wrong i love shinhwa…but they are not cream of the crop in talent…mostly just in charisma id say.

Probably the only think i can agree with the article on is that they are actually one of the few boybands that actually had talent.
If they are not cream of the crop, i really can’t think of anyone else.
Btw, he saved Han Ji Min during the drama filming when a vehicle nearly crashed into her. That’s how he injured his back; he pushed her away.

yeah. I heard like shin hye sung doesn’t have to. I’m sure I’m going to miss Eric. Even if he’s going to be behind a desk, there’s a reason why he is there other than really fighting. Also! Shinhwa is a legend. Even though they may not be especially popular like how they were back in the old days but then they are still together and a huge hit.
“Shinhwa was one of those rare boy bands that actually had talent”
come on! Shinhwa is a legend! They definetly have more talent then other boy groups out there that don’t even sing well and are only out there for the good looks!

oohh wow.I love his shades and him lol. I thought the army was for 2 years. Whatever he gotta do to make it back on the media safe and sound is all that matters. He’s still doing his part even if it’s just a desk job.

Hey hey - I’m in the military, and after boot - I picked up a desk job. I’m at it right now. haha. Don’t hate. We still shoot guns and stuff, but when we’re not - it’s back to the desk to push some more papers. It’s five weeks - but trust me - shit ain’t no breeze.
Shin Hwa’s cool man. I got into Kpop right before they debuted. Let me take a bat to your back, and see if you wanna go to boot or not.

yo people, I didnt say Shinhwa lacks talent. they’ve been in the business for a long time since they started pretty early and without much competition. i’m not too young to know so i know what i’m talking about. I respect Shinhwa since I’m a fan. but i can honestly say there are more idol group members who have more talent than shinhwa members. and this talent, i mean in music. not acting, hosting, etc.

R O K army is no joke. The US military personnel I know that was stationed in Korea say no way they would want to go through the training the R O K army goes through (much tougher and they don’t hesitate to beat you).

I really don’t care about him…I’m never attracted to him…at least, he’s serving the army…and the fact that he gave up his US citizenship just so he could serve the army is MORE than enough…
I’ll be sad if its Dong Wan or Minwoo leaving…

@ Celestine: You heard a wrong rumour. Every Korean male citizen, including the naturalized, must serve the mandatory military service regardless of their ethnicity. Only physical or mental problems can exempt them from the duty.
